How to claim the Minecraft Switch 2 upgrade
- Sign in to the Nintendo Account associated with the digital version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch.
- Open Nintendo eShop and find the digital Minecraft Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch 2.
- Check the price shown in your eShop territory. Complete the preorder if the offer is available to you; the official announcement describes the offer as available through eShop.
Minecraft and Nintendo have not published the precise screen-by-screen claim process or the labels you will see. The steps above identify the announced channel and edition, but do not assume a particular ownership-check screen or button. Check the live eShop listing for the current availability and price. Who qualifies, and what does the offer include?
The offer is for people who already own a digital version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch. It applies to the digital Standard Edition for Switch 2—not a physical cartridge. The announcement does not confirm that owning only a physical Switch copy qualifies.
In most territories, the digital Standard Edition upgrade is free during the offer period. The announced exceptions are Japan, at 100 JPY, and Taiwan, at 30 NTD. Since the price depends on territory, use the amount displayed in your Nintendo eShop as the relevant price for your account. Deadline and release date
The limited-time offer runs through the end of January 2027. Nintendo’s product listing gives the specific cutoff as January 31, 2027. The Switch 2 edition is scheduled to launch October 27, 2026, so the preorder offer extends beyond the planned release date. Check the listing in your region for any applicable availability details. Can you transfer your Switch worlds?
Nintendo says worlds from the Switch version can be carried over to the Switch 2 version. The Switch 2 edition also features Vibrant Visuals and includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. Vibrant Visuals is unavailable in some situations, including split-screen and certain Marketplace worlds and content. Nintendo’s product listing and Minecraft’s release announcement describe these features and limitations.
What not to confuse with this offer
Nintendo’s general instructions for upgrading some Switch software to Switch 2 editions do not establish the exact claim flow for this specific Minecraft preorder offer. Likewise, Mojang’s older instructions for upgrading from Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition to the then-current Switch release describe a different, historical upgrade—not how to claim this Switch 2 offer.
