A new laptop does not automatically include Xbox Game Pass. The offer is a promotional trial, subscription, code, digitally attached entitlement, or nothing at all, depending on the exact model, seller, region, and promotion dates. First, confirm that your laptop includes Game Pass
“Gaming laptop” is not proof of a Game Pass entitlement. The retailer’s exact listing and your purchase records are more reliable than the laptop brand or model family.

- Search the order confirmation and invoice for “Xbox Game Pass,” “PC Game Pass,” “Game Pass Ultimate,” “trial,” or “bundle.”
- Inspect the box for a promotional card or insert.
- Check the manufacturer’s included-software or promotion page.
- Finish Windows setup, open the Xbox app, and look for a claim or redeem prompt.
- After claiming, verify the subscription under your Microsoft account’s Services & subscriptions page.
Microsoft also uses digitally attached offers that appear after setup. Update the Microsoft Store and Xbox app before trying to activate one: Microsoft’s transaction troubleshooting guidance specifically recommends current Store and Xbox components.

What you need before claiming
- A working internet connection.
- Windows 10 or Windows 11, version 22H2 or later, for the current PC Game Pass requirement. Individual games can require more recent versions or stronger hardware.
- The Xbox app for PC, installed through Microsoft Store.
- A Microsoft account.
- The Microsoft account that should permanently own the subscription.
- Completed Windows activation and current updates.
- A payment method if the promotion requires one, even when the initial period is advertised as free.
- Enough storage and compatible hardware for the games you want.
PC Game Pass belongs to the Microsoft account used at redemption, not permanently to the physical laptop. Microsoft’s account and usage rules are described at this official support page.
Choose the account carefully
Use the account you will use for games over the long term. Avoid redeeming on a temporary school or work account, a parent’s account when someone else will own the games, or a second account accidentally created during Windows setup. A code normally cannot be moved after redemption.

Use this route when the laptop has no printed code and the entitlement is expected to appear digitally.

- Run Windows Update and restart if requested.
- Open Microsoft Store, choose Library, then select Get updates.
- Install or update the Xbox app for PC.
- Sign in to the Xbox app with the Microsoft account that should own the offer.
- Look on the Xbox app home page, account area, or subscription/purchase area for a claim, redeem, or included-offer prompt. Labels vary by promotion and app version, so do not rely on a single menu path.
- Open the offer details before confirming. Check the trial or subscription length, expiration date, new-member restrictions, required payment method, automatic-renewal price, region limits, and any device restriction.
- Confirm activation only when the account shown is correct.
- Open Services & subscriptions in your Microsoft account and verify the plan, end date, and renewal terms.
- Return to the Xbox app and install a title that your laptop can run.

Redeem a printed or emailed code
If the laptop includes a 25-character code or token, use Microsoft’s official web redemption page:
- Open Microsoft’s redeem-a-code instructions and follow the redemption link.
- Sign in to the intended Microsoft account.
- Enter or paste the code.
- Check the displayed account and offer details.
- Confirm redemption.
- Check Services & subscriptions for the plan and expiration date.
- Sign in to the Xbox app with that same account.
If redemption inside an app fails, Microsoft recommends trying the web route and updating Microsoft Store and Xbox components; see the official troubleshooting page. Stop before the final confirmation if the wrong email address is displayed.
Verify that activation really worked
A game appearing in the Xbox app is not sufficient proof. Check all of the following:

- The correct Microsoft account’s Services & subscriptions page lists PC Game Pass or the applicable plan.
- The plan name, promotional end date, and renewal terms are visible.
- The Xbox app is signed in to the same account.
- A Game Pass title can be selected for installation.
- Any separate partner benefit, such as EA Play, shows its own activation requirement if applicable.
A laptop appearing under your Microsoft account’s device list does not prove that Game Pass was claimed. Windows devices can be added automatically when you sign in, while the subscription is associated separately; Microsoft explains device management at Manage devices used with your Microsoft account.
Prevent an unwanted charge after the promotion
Promotional subscriptions commonly turn into paid recurring subscriptions unless canceled. The regular price is set at the time of renewal, not necessarily the price shown in an old listing.
The current U.S. Xbox product page shows PC Game Pass at $13.99 per month and Ultimate at $22.99 per month; these are market- and date-specific observations, and checkout is the final authority: PC Game Pass product page.
- If you want to keep the service, leave recurring billing on and record the renewal date.
- If you only want the included period, open your Microsoft subscription page after activation and turn off recurring billing.
- Read Microsoft’s cancellation confirmation carefully. Depending on the offer and current flow, access may end immediately or remain available through the promotional or paid-through date.
- Set a reminder several days before expiration.
Microsoft’s current plan terms state that subscriptions continue automatically unless canceled and that promotions can be limited by region, new-member status, payment method, and time. Review the terms shown on your own checkout screen.

If the offer is missing
- Confirm that the exact laptop configuration and seller listing promised Game Pass.
- Complete Windows activation and install all Windows updates.
- Update Microsoft Store through Library > Get updates.
- Update or reinstall the Xbox app.
- Sign out of the Xbox app and sign back in with the intended account.
- Check Services & subscriptions for an offer that may already have been claimed.
- Check the box, email receipt, invoice, and manufacturer promotion portal for a code or separate claim page.
- Use the official web redemption page if a code exists.
- Contact the retailer or manufacturer with your order number and laptop serial number if the documented bundle was not supplied.
Do not repeatedly attempt claims with different accounts. That can complicate eligibility and leave the entitlement attached to an account you did not intend to use.
“This code has already been redeemed”
The code may have been used by another person, redeemed automatically during setup, entered on a different Microsoft account, or included with a returned or refurbished laptop. Check every account used during Windows and Xbox setup. If none has the subscription, ask the retailer or Microsoft Support for help and provide proof of purchase.
“Not eligible” or “offer unavailable”
Common explanations include prior Game Pass membership, a new-subscriber-only promotion, an expired or region-limited offer, a non-qualifying laptop configuration, a one-per-device or one-per-account limit, or a mismatch between the account’s billing region and the promotion. Microsoft’s promotional terms allow these restrictions.
Used and refurbished laptops
The original owner may have claimed the entitlement, the offer may have expired, or the promotion may have been tied to the original purchaser. Ask the seller or manufacturer to resolve a missing bundle; do not buy a replacement code from an unofficial marketplace.

When the Xbox app will not install or games will not run
App installation and launch problems
- Check that Windows is version 22H2 or later.
- Windows in S mode may require switching out of S mode before the Xbox PC app can be used.
- Update or repair Microsoft Store and Gaming Services.
- Check that work or school device management is not blocking Store or Xbox services.
- Ensure the Microsoft Store account and Xbox account are not unintentionally different.
Download succeeds, but the game will not start
Game Pass access does not guarantee that a laptop meets a particular game’s CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, driver, or operating-system requirements. Check the game’s own listing for the developer’s minimum specifications. Some titles use third-party launchers or require an additional account link. Plugging in the laptop, selecting the intended GPU mode, updating graphics drivers, and allowing adequate free storage can also matter.
Do you need another subscription?

Game Pass is not included with Windows 11 itself. It is an account-based service whose promotional availability depends on the laptop and offer terms.
