Sony’s guidance does not call for opening the console for routine cleaning; its safety guide warns against disassembly or modification.
Before you clean: confirm the model and power down
Sony identifies PS4 Slim systems as part of the CUH-20xx family. You can check the model number on the console’s label; Sony explains where to find it in its guide to PS4 serial and model numbers. The cleaning guidance cited here comes from Sony safety guides for CUH-2100- and CUH-2200-series systems. If your model or regional documentation differs, follow the guide for your console.

- Turn off the PS4 Slim and allow it to cool. Sony does not specify a cooling time.
- Unplug the AC power cord before cleaning. Disconnect accessories too if you are cleaning them.
Sony’s CUH-2116AB safety guide requires the system to be unplugged before cleaning. Read the PS4 CUH-2116AB Safety Guide for the manufacturer’s instructions.

Wipe the plastic surfaces with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Do not spray cleaner onto the console, and do not use solvents, other chemicals, insecticides, volatile substances, or chemically treated cleaning cloths. Sony lists these restrictions in its CUH-2116AB safety guide.

Remove dust from the vents without opening the console
Look for dust accumulated around the ventilation openings. Sony’s instruction is: “When dust accumulates in the system vents, remove the dust with a low-powered vacuum cleaner.” Use a vacuum with low suction; Sony does not specify a particular attachment or a precise suction setting. Do not insert a nozzle or other object into the console.
Routine vent cleaning does not require taking the PS4 Slim apart. Sony warns against disassembling or modifying the system in its CUH-2202A safety guide. That guide says unauthorized modification will void the warranty described in that document; it is not a statement about every warranty or legal right in every region.

Clean connectors and keep debris away from openings
If a connector is dirty, Sony advises removing dirt with a dry cloth and not using dirty connectors. Keep liquids and loose debris away from the console’s openings and ports. Do not apply cleaning fluid to a connector.

Dust buildup or cigarette-smoke residue on internal components, including the lens, may cause malfunction, according to Sony’s safety guidance. The guidance does not establish a cleaning schedule or promise that cleaning will fix noise, overheating, or another fault.

If the console continues to malfunction, do not open it as the next cleaning step. Contact PlayStation Support or a qualified repair provider for diagnosis.

Leave space around the console so its vents can move air. Sony recommends keeping the system at least 10 cm from a wall and avoiding cramped spaces and long-fiber carpets. Keep the vents unobstructed while the PS4 Slim is in use.
