Use /fill to replace blocks in a coordinate-defined area with air. In Bedrock Edition, Microsoft’s documented example clears a layer beneath you with /fill ~-5 ~-1 ~-5 ~5 ~-1 ~5 air 0 destroy. This removes blocks in the selected region; it does not delete a chunk as a unit of world data.
What “destroy a chunk” means
Players often use “chunk” to mean a sizable patch of terrain. The /fill command works on a region defined by two positions, so you can clear a chunk-shaped footprint by specifying its horizontal boundaries and the vertical range you want to affect. It changes blocks in that region rather than deleting chunk data.
Clear blocks with /fill
Microsoft’s Bedrock command reference describes /fill as filling all or part of a region with a specific block. Its example removes a shallow area around the command’s execution position:
/fill ~-5 ~-1 ~-5 ~5 ~-1 ~5 air 0 destroy
The first three coordinates identify one corner; the next three identify the opposite corner. The tildes make the coordinates relative to where the command executes. In this example, the horizontal range extends five blocks in each direction, while ~-1 sets both corners at one block below the execution position. That produces an 11-by-1-by-11 area, not a whole chunk’s full height. Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock /fill reference documents this syntax and example.

Choose the right command and mode
| Need | Command or mode | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Change one block | /setblock |
Changes a block at one position. See Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock /setblock reference. |
| Change blocks across an area | /fill |
Changes blocks within the region defined by two positions. |

Check your edition before using the syntax
The command and example above are documented for Bedrock Edition. Java Edition syntax and command limits can differ, and the available evidence here does not establish one universal command or a maximum region size for every edition and version. Check /help fill in your game or consult the matching edition’s current command reference before reusing the syntax or attempting a large operation. Microsoft also provides a Bedrock command reference.
