To troubleshoot World of Warcraft with Blizzard’s full UI-reset procedure, close the game and rename three folders—Cache, Interface and WTF—inside the folder for the WoW version affected. This is broader than clearing cache alone: it can reset addons and saved UI settings. Renaming the folders instead of deleting them lets you undo the change.
Reset World of Warcraft’s cache and UI folders
- Exit World of Warcraft completely.
- Prevent addon data from syncing back. Temporarily disable or uninstall addon-manager software before the reset; it may restore removed addons or data. Blizzard’s procedure includes this precaution. Blizzard Support: Resetting the WoW User Interface
- Open the installation folder. In the Battle.net desktop app, go to the World of Warcraft page, select Options, then choose Show in Explorer on Windows or Reveal in Finder on Mac. Blizzard Support: Resetting the WoW User Interface
- Open the directory for the version with the problem. The listed folder names include
retail,classic_eraandclassic. Use the one corresponding to the version you play. Blizzard forum guidance - Rename the three folders:
CachetoCacheOld,InterfacetoInterfaceOld, andWTFtoWTFOld. Keep the renamed folders rather than permanently deleting them. - Launch the game and check the original problem. The reset returns the UI to default settings and is intended to help with certain display and interface issues. Blizzard Support: Resetting the WoW User Interface
What the reset changes
Blizzard’s commonly shared procedure is a full user-interface reset, not a cache-only operation. It renames Interface and WTF as well as Cache; those folders contain addon and game UI data, so addons and saved interface settings may be affected. Blizzard forum guidance
The cited support guidance does not establish that deleting only Cache is sufficient for any particular symptom. If you choose to try that narrower action, it is not the same procedure Blizzard describes for resetting the UI.
How to undo the reset
If you want to restore the previous UI, close the game, remove the newly created Cache, Interface and WTF folders, then rename CacheOld, InterfaceOld and WTFOld back to their original names. Blizzard forum discussion describes restoring the renamed folders this way. Blizzard forum guidance
