Disassembly returns crafting components matching the item’s Tier.
How to disassemble a weapon
- Open the Inventory and find the weapon you want to break down.
- Select the weapon and check the action prompt. Hold the displayed disassembly control until the action completes. A Prima Games guide for Update 2.0 reports Q on keyboard and Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox; these are reported bindings, not a guarantee for every platform or customized control scheme.
- Check your inventory for the crafting components you received.
What you get from disassembling a weapon
CD PROJEKT RED says disassembling an item provides components of its corresponding Tier: a Tier 5 item, for example, yields Tier 5 components. The official guidance does not specify a fixed component count for each weapon, so the yield can’t be stated as a universal number. Components are used for crafting and upgrading; the game’s Crafting panel is in the main menu and requires a Crafting Spec and the necessary components. Protect weapons you want to keep
Mark a valuable weapon as a Favorite before disassembling other items. CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.1 notes say Favorited weapons cannot be sold, disassembled, or dropped.
If the disassembly control is different
Use the action prompt displayed in your Inventory rather than assuming a guide’s key applies to your setup. If the prompt or controls seem wrong, check the key bindings and control scheme in Settings; CD PROJEKT RED advises restoring the defaults if needed. Update 2.0, released on September 21, 2023, substantially changed core systems, so older instructions may not match current menus or controls. The official Update 2.0 notes provide the release context, while the in-game prompt is the practical guide for your controls.
