The powertrain and capability figures below are the company’s claims for the Middle East model; they should not be assumed to apply to every market or trim.

Middle East powertrain and range claims
- Powertrain: a 2.0T dedicated hybrid engine, a 34.12 kWh LFP battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive.
- Output: up to 460 kW peak power and 662 N·m peak torque.
- Range: 886 km total range and 110 km electric range on the combined cycle.
These are figures reported by Chery Group in its October 2026 announcement, not independent measurements. Keep them distinct from Defender or Discovery figures established under a different test cycle or market-homologation system. The announcement does not establish the FREELANDER 8’s real-world efficiency or range.
Off-road and validation claims
Chery reports nine i-ATS driving modes, maximum ground clearance of 266 mm, a 70% grade-climbing ability, water wading to 900 mm and the ability to pass an 800 mm cross-axle test. It also says its global validation programme used more than 1,000 test vehicles, including over 200 all-terrain durability vehicles covering 2.15 million kilometres. These are manufacturer-reported specifications and testing claims, not independent head-to-head results against a Defender or Discovery.

Chery International R&D Centre Chief Engineer Peter Matkin described the programme this way in the launch announcement: “Before you face extreme heat, heavy rain or rough ground, we put the car through it first. So wherever you go, you can drive with confidence.” The statement explains the manufacturer’s testing approach; it does not independently verify the resulting capability.

Cabin and assistance technology
The announcement says the cabin is powered by a Qualcomm SA8295P platform and that L2+ driver assistance with more than 30 assistance functions is standard. It describes Super Intelligent Valet Parking as available in selected markets and subject to conditions and driver responsibilities. Confirm the exact equipment and software availability for the market and trim being considered.

How to make a fair comparison
Start by choosing a specific vehicle on each side. Land Rover’s official comparison tool supports comparisons of up to three vehicles and warns that specifications, options and availability vary by market. It says its official figures are EU test figures for comparison purposes and that real-world results can differ. Optional extras can affect weight, and roof-load limits vary by configuration. Land Rover’s current Defender range information lists multiple body, trim and engine variants, so “Defender” alone is not a sufficiently precise match.
For Discovery, use the intended model rather than treating Discovery and Discovery Sport as interchangeable. Land Rover’s Discovery model information directs shoppers to current range and specifications and notes that options, connected services and feature availability can depend on market and vehicle specification.
