To unlock The Hex in Warframe, complete every Main Quest through The Lotus Eaters and finish The Duviri Paradox. The Hex is a solo, spoiler-heavy cinematic quest in Höllvania. Digital Extremes estimates it takes about one to one-and-a-half hours, and you cannot launch other missions until you finish. Most stages provide preset characters and equipment, but a few brief sections use your own loadout.
Prerequisites to unlock The Hex
- Complete all Main Quests up to and including The Lotus Eaters.
- Complete The Duviri Paradox. Digital Extremes identifies Duviri as vital to The Hex’s story.
These are the documented prerequisites; there is no alternate completion route listed by Digital Extremes. The quest takes place in Höllvania on December 31, 1999, with the Drifter joining the Hex while pursuing Albrecht Entrati. Expect story spoilers once you begin.
Prepare before starting
- Set aside an uninterrupted session. Digital Extremes’ estimate is about one to one-and-a-half hours, but your time may vary. The quest locks you out of other missions until you complete it.
- Equip a capable personal Warframe loadout. Most stages supply preset Protoframes, weapons, and abilities, but brief segments require equipment from your own arsenal.
- Customize your Drifter if you want to. The quest includes Drifter and Protoframe cinematics, so you may want to adjust the Drifter’s appearance beforehand.
Mechanics to know during the quest
The official guide explains selected encounters and systems rather than giving a complete objective-by-objective mission transcript. These notes cover the mechanics most likely to need explanation.

H-04 Efervon Tank
- Destroy all eight vents above the tank’s treads while dealing with Scaldra reinforcements.
- When the tank becomes vulnerable, pick up and fire the special rocket launcher dropped by Scaldra.
- Damage the tank until it is vulnerable to a final attack, then approach and interact with it to finish the encounter.
Hell-Scrub
Hell-Scrub resembles Survival: enemies drop life-support charges, and Hell-Scrubbers provide additional support. If a scrubber is infested, its red diamond marks urgency. Attack the blue Techrot growth on its filter before the timer expires. If you do not, it becomes a stronger Techrot enemy and provides greatly limited life support.

The Hex Syndicate becomes a progression hub after the quest. Romance is optional, but Digital Extremes says you must be Liked by all Protoframes to unlock Syndicate Rank 4.

Digital Extremes’ March 4, 2025 preparation article says The Hex is required to access Techrot Encore content. That article also notes that, beginning March 19, 2025, players receive a loaner Necramech for The New War. The loaner change removed the prior progression obstacle described there; it is not an additional requirement for The Hex.
