To complete the Ashes of the Damned main Easter egg, first activate Ol’ Tessie and unlock its Pack-a-Punch, then upgrade the truck and obtain the Necrofluid Gauntlet. Collect six ingredients for the serum, complete the location challenges, and use Ol’ Tessie to fight Veytharion. This route follows Standard Mode; the step order can differ in Directed Mode.
Ashes of the Damned is a round-based Zombies map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The truck Ol’ Tessie is central to both getting around the map and completing the quest. Treyarch’s September 24, 2025 Zombies overview introduces the map, the truck, and the Necrofluid Gauntlet.
Which mode should you use?
The route below is for Standard Mode. PowerPyx notes that Directed Mode can present a different step order; it does not say the quest is unavailable there. Trophies and achievements can also unlock in Directed Mode.

How do you activate Ol’ Tessie and unlock Pack-a-Punch?
- Get T.E.D.D.’s Head. Go to the server room in Janus Towers Plaza and melee the round floor grate. Take the head from inside.
- Activate the truck. Install T.E.D.D.’s Head on Ol’ Tessie.
- Restore power at all three locations. Visit Blackwater Lake, Vandorn Farm, and Ashwood, and restore power at each.
- Install Pack-a-Punch at Ashwood. After restoring power there, park Ol’ Tessie in the garage and mount the Pack-a-Punch unit on the rear of the truck.
Once installed, Pack-a-Punch is available wherever you park Ol’ Tessie, so the truck serves as a movable upgrade point.
How do you get the Necrofluid Gauntlet?
Before the Gauntlet, the route includes truck upgrades and Klaus-related tasks. The broad sequence is to get the Abomination Beam upgrade, activate Klaus, retrieve an Aether Barrel, use it at three power pumps, and solve the Vandorn Farm cellar cube puzzle.

- Get the Abomination Carcass at Exit 115. This is used for the Abomination Beam truck upgrade. The detailed walkthroughs show the precise interaction and upgrade steps.
- Activate Klaus at Ashwood. The route uses Klaus to obtain an Aether Barrel at Zarya Cosmodrome.
- Fill the Aether Barrel at the pumps. Take it to the power pumps at Blackwater Lake, Ashwood, and Vandorn Farm. Defend each pump during its fill stage.
- Inspect the cube in the Vandorn Farm cellar. Then use a Jump Pad to see the glowing symbols on the rooftops.
- Enter the symbols into the cube. The symbols reveal the solution for the cellar puzzle; entering them correctly awards the Necrofluid Gauntlet.
The rooftop symbol sequence and exact pump and item interactions are visual puzzle details. Consult the PC Gamer walkthrough for those specifics rather than guessing at a code.
Which ingredients do you need for the serum?
You need six ingredients: Powder of the Forgotten, Widow’s Lantern, Human Bones, Ravager Eyes, Hoard Husk Chunks, and a Mysterious Limb. Several require particular equipment or enemies, so collect them by following the relevant interaction rather than expecting all six to be ordinary pickups.

- Widow’s Lantern: Apply the Jar of Spores to a horse carcass, then return after three rounds.
- Human Bones: Use a Combat Axe and a Molotov on the hanging body.
- Ravager Eyes: Use the Saw Blade Trap on a Ravager.
- Hoard Husk Chunks: Use the Abomination Beam against roadside pods.
- Mysterious Limb: Obtain it from a Zursa.
Take all six ingredients to Yuri’s Lab in Zarya Cosmodrome, combine them there, and solve the cipher. The PC Gamer guide gives the location-specific sequence and cipher details.
What happens after you make the serum?
After the lab sequence, continue through the location challenges at Vandorn Farm, Exit 115, Zarya Cosmodrome, and Blackwater Lake. The quest then sends you on a final road trip before the Veytharion encounter. These sections include additional puzzle states and interactions; use the linked walkthrough for the specific film reel positions and location-by-location actions.

How do you defeat Veytharion?
The final encounter uses Ol’ Tessie. The walkthrough’s core strategy is to collect energy around the arena while Veytharion is invulnerable, then use ramps and boosted impacts to break its defenses or damage it during the appropriate phase.
- Drive Ol’ Tessie through the arena to collect energy when the boss cannot be damaged.
- Use ramps and boost impacts to attack when the encounter calls for breaking the boss’s defenses or dealing damage.
- Pay attention to the current phase and in-game cues; the sequence depends on switching between energy collection and attacks.
