To complete The Necromancer’s Amulet, speak with Hannibal Traven at the Arcane University, go to Fort Ontus southwest of Chorrol, confront Caranya in the Ontus Understreets, take the amulet, and return it to Traven. The quest itself has no direct reward; it is one of two quests needed for the Master-Wizard promotion.
Start the quest with Hannibal Traven
At the Arcane University, speak with Hannibal Traven and select the Necromancer’s Amulet dialogue option. If the option is unavailable, you may need to reach Wizard rank first. One walkthrough advises waiting one or two in-game days, speaking with Raminus Polus to be promoted to Wizard, and then trying Traven again. Game8’s walkthrough describes this rank-related step.
Travel to Fort Ontus
After accepting the quest, follow the map marker to Fort Ontus, southwest of Chorrol. Marauders and Bandits may be hostile in the surrounding area. Follow your compass to the entrance and open the Old Wooden Door to enter. Game8’s walkthrough provides the location and route details.
Find Caranya and take the amulet
Inside the fort, the mages are initially non-hostile. Follow the route through the interior to Caranya, who is in the Ontus Understreets. Speak to her and select the Necromancer’s Amulet dialogue option; she will attack immediately afterward.

Defeat Caranya and take the amulet. The other mages then reveal themselves as necromancers, so fight your way back out of the fort. Game8’s walkthrough describes the encounter and escape.
Return the amulet to Traven
Go back to the Arcane University and speak with Hannibal Traven. Choose the Necromancer’s Amulet dialogue option to hand it over and complete the quest.

What the quest gives you
The Necromancer’s Amulet quest has no direct reward. Its progression value is that, together with The Bloodworm Helm quest, it qualifies you to speak with Raminus Polus about promotion to Master-Wizard. The quests can be completed in either order.
