To complete The Serpent’s Jaws in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, take Farosh’s Scale to the Spring of Courage and offer it to the statue. The offering opens the wall behind the statue and reveals Shae Katha Shrine. Kass in Pagos Woods can give you the quest and its riddle first, but you can open the shrine without formally activating the quest if you already have a scale.
Where to start The Serpent’s Jaws
Find Kass along the path through Pagos Woods and speak to him. Choose to hear his ancient verse to start the quest and learn the clue to the Spring of Courage.
Kass sings: “Where the forest dragon splays its jaws, / A shrine sleeps with noble cause.” The verse points to the Spring of Courage, set among the dragon-shaped ruins in Damel Forest.
How to get Farosh’s Scale
The Spring of Courage statue asks for Farosh’s Scale. Farosh appears around Riola Spring and Lake Floria, among other locations. Strike Farosh’s body to make it drop a scale, then collect it.

How to reveal Shae Katha Shrine
- Travel to the Spring of Courage in the dragon-shaped ruins near Damel Forest. One suggested route is to warp to Dueling Peaks Tower and travel south; this is a guide recommendation, not a required route.
- Go to the Goddess Statue and pray to it.
- Drop Farosh’s Scale into the water at the statue’s feet. The statue’s instruction reads: “Offer Farosh’s scale, received from the golden spirit, to the Spring of Courage.”
- Once the scale is offered, the wall behind the statue opens to reveal Shae Katha Shrine, completing the quest.
Do you have to talk to Kass first?
No. Farosh’s Scale is enough to open Shae Katha Shrine, even if you have not started the quest with Kass. Talk to him first if you want The Serpent’s Jaws recorded in your Adventure Log.

Shae Katha is a blessing shrine, so there is no puzzle to solve inside. Open the chest for a Thunderspear, then go to the altar and speak to the monk to receive a Spirit Orb.
