WWE All Stars has no documented native Windows release in the available evidence. The supported PC route described here is to run the PlayStation 2 version in PCSX2, then configure the emulator’s controller and graphics settings for your computer. The PCSX2 Wiki lists the NTSC-U game as Playable on Windows, but its result came from an older development build and is not a guarantee for every current PC.
Use the game’s per-title Properties for experiments, begin with PCSX2’s automatic choices, and change one setting at a time. That gives you a reliable way to separate controller mapping problems from graphics or performance problems.

What you need before configuring WWE All Stars
This guide assumes that PCSX2 is installed and that you have lawful access to the PS2 game media used with your emulator. PCSX2 is emulating the console version; the instructions do not describe a separate Windows executable. You should also have a controller that the operating system can detect. A keyboard may be useful for navigating menus, but the game’s documented PS2 control scheme is based on a standard controller with analog-input support.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Keep your first test simple: connect one controller, launch PCSX2, leave graphics at their defaults, and verify input before adding visual enhancements. If you change several settings at once, it becomes difficult to tell whether a fault comes from the device, the profile, the renderer or the internal resolution.

Identify the game region
Region matters when you are checking compatibility information or selecting the correct game entry. The PSX Data Center lists these identifiers:
| Edition | PS2 serial | Source |
|---|---|---|
| NTSC-U | SLUS-21940 | PSX Data Center entry |
| PAL | SLES-55648 | PSX Data Center entry |
The same entry describes a standard controller with analog-input support. That means your PC controller must expose working analog sticks to the operating system and to PCSX2; no particular brand or model is established as required. If you are comparing your copy with a compatibility report, check the serial rather than assuming that every regional release behaves identically.
What the compatibility listing actually proves
The PCSX2 Wiki’s Windows listing is useful as a historical reference, not as a current benchmark. It reports a successful test of the NTSC-U release, but the test used PCSX2 1.5.0 development build 2445. Current PCSX2 builds, drivers, operating systems and graphics hardware can behave differently. Treat the listing as evidence that a configuration worked at that time, not as a promise that your installation will require the same renderer or deliver the same result.

1. Connect and verify the device at the operating-system level
Plug in the controller before opening PCSX2. Confirm that the operating system sees it and that its sticks and buttons respond. If the operating system does not detect the device, PCSX2 cannot map it; solve that connection problem first rather than changing emulator profiles. If several controllers are connected, temporarily leave only the one you intend to use attached so Automatic Mapping cannot select the wrong device.
2. Open PCSX2’s controller settings
- Launch PCSX2.
- Open Settings > Controllers.
- In the input-source area, select SDL as the starting point.
PCSX2 describes SDL as its preferred input source because it is cross-platform and suitable for most controllers and operating systems. This is a compatibility-first starting point, not a claim that every device will map perfectly. If your device is visible but a control is wrong, stay with SDL while correcting the assignment before trying a different input path.
3. Run Automatic Mapping
- With the controller visible to PCSX2, choose Automatic Mapping when the option is available.
- Accept the generated assignments.
- Check every face button, shoulder button, D-pad direction, stick direction, Start and Select before relying on the layout in a match.
Automatic Mapping saves time, but you should still test the result. A controller can be detected while one axis is reversed, one trigger is missing, or a button is assigned to the wrong PS2 control. Test both sticks separately, including diagonal movement, because a device can report a horizontal axis correctly while its vertical axis is reversed or absent. Confirm that the D-pad is digital and that it does not replace a stick assignment.
Do not judge a mapping only from the emulator menu. A control that appears to work while navigating may still be assigned to the wrong in-game action. Start a repeatable match or training situation and verify movement, attacks, grapples, defensive controls and menu confirmation before you save the layout as your normal profile.

4. Keep the Shared profile unless you need a game-specific layout
The Shared input profile is the simplest default when you want one controller arrangement across games. If WWE All Stars needs a different layout, create a custom profile instead of changing the shared one. A shared edit can alter another PS2 game unexpectedly, while a title-specific profile keeps the experiment contained.
- Save the custom mapping with a clear name.
- Open WWE All Stars’ game entry and choose Properties.
- Assign the custom controller profile to that title.
- Start the game and test the assignment again.
Creating a profile alone does not make WWE All Stars use it. The profile must be assigned in the game’s Properties. This is the most common reason a carefully edited layout appears to have had no effect. If you later return to the Shared profile, verify the assignment again rather than assuming that saving a new profile changed the active one.

- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.

5. Test inputs when the interface gives you no tester
PCSX2’s current Qt and Big Picture interfaces do not include an input tester. For a systematic check, PCSX2 documents using the PS2 Pad Test homebrew. It is an emulator troubleshooting utility, not a WWE All Stars-specific preset.
- Use it to check that each digital button registers once.
- Move each analog stick slowly through its full range and look for dead directions or drift.
- Press triggers or other analog controls separately so you can identify an axis that is being reported as a button.
- Release every control and confirm that it returns to neutral instead of continuing to report movement.
If the Pad Test shows a fault, correct the mapping or the controller connection before adjusting graphics. A graphics change cannot repair an input-axis problem. Conversely, if every control passes the Pad Test but the game still behaves incorrectly, inspect the title’s assigned profile and any software that may be translating controller input.

Buttons work in the desktop but not in the game
Reopen the game’s Properties and confirm that the custom profile is assigned to WWE All Stars. A profile saved globally but not assigned per game will not be selected automatically. If you are using the Shared profile, temporarily switch to a newly saved game-specific profile to determine whether the issue is profile selection or the device itself.
Check the title entry you are launching as well. A profile assigned to one regional or duplicate entry will not necessarily be active for another entry. The serials listed for the NTSC-U and PAL releases are different, so use the entry that matches your own copy.
Steam Input sends unexpected keyboard commands
PCSX2 documents cases where Steam Input injects unrelated keyboard commands. Its listed workarounds are to exit Steam, or to change Steam’s controller-support and desktop-layout settings so Steam is not translating the controller while PCSX2 is running. Apply one change at a time and retest the game. If closing Steam resolves the behavior, leave the PCSX2 mapping unchanged and adjust Steam’s translation layer instead.
PCSX2 crashes as soon as a controller is used
Do not install random third-party driver packages as a first response. PCSX2 specifically documents crashes associated with some controllers using the EZFRD64.dll driver. Remove or disable the problematic driver according to your operating system’s normal device-management procedures, then reconnect the controller and try SDL again. Installing another unverified driver can add a second input layer and make diagnosis harder.

Only one stick or direction is wrong
- Run Automatic Mapping again after reconnecting the controller.
- Check the stick in PS2 Pad Test, because an operating-system axis-order issue can look like a game control error.
- If you manually edit the profile, change only the incorrect axis or button and leave the known-good assignments intact.
- Retest the neutral position and full travel after saving; a partial movement test can hide an inverted or duplicated axis.
Choose a graphics API
Start with Automatic
- Open PCSX2’s graphics settings.
- Set Graphics API to Automatic.
- Run WWE All Stars at its normal internal resolution and observe speed, rendering and stability.
PCSX2’s documentation says Automatic selects an API according to your GPU and operating system, prioritizing stability and then accuracy. Its explicit guidance is: When the Graphics API is set to Automatic, PCSX2 will choose which graphics API to use depending on your GPU and operating system. Priority is given to stability, then to accuracy. Always use this option if you are unsure.
See the PCSX2 general configuration documentation.
Automatic is therefore the correct baseline when you do not already know which renderer your driver handles best. It is not a promise that every system will select the same API or deliver identical performance. Record what Automatic selected, if the interface displays it, before comparing another option so that you can return to the known baseline.
Understand hardware and software rendering
PCSX2 distinguishes hardware graphics APIs from software mode. Hardware rendering uses the GPU and is normally the practical route for increasing internal resolution. Software mode renders on the CPU and requires a strong CPU; it can be useful as a diagnostic comparison when a hardware renderer shows an unexplained visual fault, but it increases processor load.

| Choice | Main load | Best use in this guide | Trade-off to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automatic | Selected by PCSX2 based on GPU and operating system | First run and recovery after experiments | The selected API can change with hardware or driver conditions |
| Hardware API | Primarily GPU, with CPU still handling emulation work | Normal play and internal-resolution scaling | Driver-specific glitches or higher GPU load as resolution rises |
| Software mode | CPU-rendered graphics | Diagnostic comparison when hardware output is suspect | Requires a strong CPU and can reduce available headroom |
The documentation describes hardware APIs as having different speed, accuracy, driver and platform characteristics. Compare them on those axes rather than choosing one because it is popular on another computer. The available evidence does not establish a single current API as the winner for WWE All Stars.
When a hardware API is worth comparing
Only compare a specific hardware API after Automatic produces a repeatable problem, such as a rendering defect or unstable speed. Make the comparison in the game’s Properties, keep the same internal resolution, and test the same scene. If the alternative fixes the defect without introducing a slowdown, retain it for this title; otherwise return to Automatic. Avoid changing the API and the resolution in the same test.
Keep WWE All Stars changes separate from other games
Use the game’s Properties to isolate graphics experiments to WWE All Stars. This prevents a change made for one title from altering every game in your PCSX2 library.
- Open the WWE All Stars entry in PCSX2.
- Choose Properties.
- Make one graphics change, such as selecting a different API or reducing internal upscaling.
- Launch the game and test the same scene or menu for a consistent comparison.
- Keep the change only if it resolves the problem without introducing a new one.
Record the original value before experimenting. If the result is worse, restore the previous value instead of stacking additional changes that make the cause difficult to identify. A per-game setting is also safer when you use more than one PS2 title, because another game may prefer a different balance of speed and accuracy.
Internal resolution, blending and performance
Why higher resolution can slow the game
PCSX2’s requirements documentation cautions that GPU load depends substantially on the internal upscaling level and blending accuracy. A computer that handles the default resolution may lose speed when you raise the internal resolution or select more demanding blending behavior. Treat each increase as a performance test, not as a free image-quality improvement.
Performance trouble can appear as sustained slow motion, uneven pacing or a drop in responsiveness even when the controller mapping is correct. If the same input passes PS2 Pad Test and the game responds normally at the default resolution, that points toward a graphics-load change rather than a controller fault. Return to the last stable level before testing another visual option.
A controlled tuning sequence
- Return Graphics API to Automatic if you have lost track of the current renderer.
- Run the game at the default internal resolution and confirm that controller input is correct.
- Raise internal resolution one step.
- Play the same type of scene for several minutes and watch for speed loss, stutter or rendering errors.
- If performance drops, return to the previous level before trying another graphics option.
- Only after a stable resolution is found should you evaluate blending accuracy or another hardware API.
This order keeps the number of simultaneous variables small. It also makes clear whether a problem comes from the renderer, the resolution multiplier or a controller configuration that was changed at the same time. Do not use the historical compatibility result as permission to select a high resolution automatically; that test does not report a modern upscaling level or a universal performance ceiling.
What the requirements page does and does not promise
PCSX2 publishes minimum, moderate and heavy system categories rather than a WWE All Stars-specific modern hardware requirement. It also notes that slower hardware may run some games without guaranteed playability. Use those categories as broad guidance, not as a guarantee that a particular processor or graphics card will deliver a fixed frame rate. Read the current requirements guidance at PCSX2’s system-requirements page.
The requirements guidance is especially important when comparing laptops, integrated graphics and older desktops. GPU demand changes with internal resolution and blending accuracy, while software mode shifts rendering work to the CPU. Start with Automatic and the default resolution on any machine that falls below the broad categories, then make only small, reversible changes.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhich PS2 serial should I use?
The PSX Data Center lists SLUS-21940 for NTSC-U and SLES-55648 for PAL. Match the PCSX2 game entry to the region of your own lawful game media.
Which controller brand is guaranteed to work?
No specific brand or model is established by the cited material. Choose a PC-compatible controller that the operating system detects and test it through SDL and Automatic Mapping.
Why use SDL first?
PCSX2 identifies SDL as its preferred input source because it is cross-platform and suitable for most controllers and operating systems. It is a starting point for compatibility, not a guarantee that every button will map perfectly.
Why did my saved custom profile not change the game?
A custom profile must be assigned to WWE All Stars in the game’s Properties. Saving the profile without assigning it leaves the game on its previous profile.
How can I test a controller if PCSX2 has no input tester?
The current Qt and Big Picture interfaces do not include one. PCSX2 documents the PS2 Pad Test homebrew for checking buttons, axes, neutral positions and drift.

What should I do if Steam sends keyboard commands?
Exit Steam, or adjust Steam’s controller-support and desktop-layout settings so it does not translate the controller while PCSX2 runs. Retest after one change.
Should I install a third-party controller driver?
Not as a first step. PCSX2 documents crashes associated with some controllers using EZFRD64.dll. Avoid random driver packages and address that documented driver conflict through normal device-management procedures.
Which graphics API is best for WWE All Stars?
No current API is established as a universal winner. Start with Automatic, which PCSX2 says chooses according to the GPU and operating system, prioritizing stability and then accuracy. Compare another hardware API only when you have a repeatable reason.

Does the historical i5-6400 test define the minimum PC?
No. The report used an Intel Core i5-6400, Radeon R7 200 Series with 2 GB, PCSX2 1.5.0 DEV 2445 and GSdx Direct3D 11 Hardware. It reported full speed and no issues, including multiplayer, but it is a historical test rather than a modern minimum or guarantee.
Final pre-match checklist
- Confirm you are launching the PS2 release and the intended region entry.
- Confirm the operating system detects the controller.
- In Settings > Controllers, use SDL as the initial input source.
- Run Automatic Mapping, then test every button and both sticks.
- If using a custom profile, assign it in WWE All Stars’ Properties.
- Close Steam or adjust its controller-support and desktop-layout behavior if keyboard commands appear.
- Use PS2 Pad Test when the Qt or Big Picture interface leaves an input question unresolved.
- Start Graphics API at Automatic.
- Change graphics settings through the game’s Properties and one variable at a time.
- Reduce internal upscaling if GPU load causes slowdowns.
- Remember that the i5-6400/Radeon R7 200 result belongs to PCSX2 1.5.0 DEV 2445 and should not be treated as a current guarantee.
