The most reliable way to connect a controller to Roblox on PC is to plug it into Windows with a data-capable USB cable, then open the current Roblox – Windows app. For wireless play, pair the controller under Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device.
Windows recognizing the controller does not guarantee that every Roblox experience will support it. Experience developers control gamepad behavior, so a controller may work for movement in one game but not for menus, chat, inventory, or special abilities in another.

- The current Roblox – Windows app. Roblox identifies the newer Microsoft Store version with a blue icon; the older Store app is simply named Roblox.
A Windows-compatible Xbox controller is usually the simplest plug-and-play option. You can also use a PlayStation controller, although its button prompts and extra features may not behave exactly as they do on a console.

- Connect it directly to the PC with a USB cable.
- Wait a few seconds for Windows to detect and configure the controller.
- Open Roblox – Windows.
- Join an experience and test the left stick, right stick, face buttons, triggers, and menu button.
USB is the best first connection to try because it removes Bluetooth pairing, battery level, and wireless-driver problems from the setup. The cable must carry data. A charge-only cable can power the controller while transmitting no input.
If you need one, use a USB data cable for the controller. The connector depends on the model: newer controllers commonly use USB-C, while some older PlayStation controllers use micro-USB.

Xbox-style controllers
Xbox-compatible controllers are generally the easiest choice on Windows. They commonly use familiar Xbox button labels and standard Windows gamepad input. Connect one by USB first; for wireless play, pair it through Windows Bluetooth settings according to the controller’s instructions.

- Turn the controller off and disconnect its USB cable.
- Hold the Create button and the PS button together until the light bar flashes.
- On the PC, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.

A DualSense controller for PC can work as a generic gamepad in Roblox, but do not expect every PlayStation feature to transfer. Adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, the built-in speaker, and headset functions can depend on the game and connection type.
PS4 DualShock 4 controllers
A DualShock 4 can connect to Windows with a compatible micro-USB cable or Sony’s DUALSHOCK 4 USB wireless adaptor. Roblox may show generic or Xbox-style gamepad prompts rather than the PlayStation symbols printed on the controller. That is a mapping difference, not necessarily a connection failure.
Connect a controller through Bluetooth on Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Put the controller into pairing mode. The button combination varies by model.
- Select Add device > Bluetooth.
- Choose the controller from the list.
- Wait until Windows shows it as connected, then launch Roblox and join an experience.
Pairing mode is not the same as simply turning the controller on. If it does not appear in the device list, consult the controller’s model-specific instructions and try pairing mode again.
Desktop PCs do not always include Bluetooth. If yours has no Bluetooth hardware, a USB Bluetooth adapter for PC can add it. You will still need to put the controller into pairing mode and add it in Windows.
What controller support is like inside Roblox
Connecting the controller to Windows does not guarantee a complete console-style interface in every Roblox experience. Developers decide which gamepad inputs their experience accepts and how those inputs are used.

Keep a keyboard and mouse nearby for text chat, settings, cursor-based controls, and experiences with incomplete gamepad support. You can also open the in-experience Help menu to see available keyboard shortcuts, mouse instructions, and other controls. Camera and accessibility options are available there, although camera behavior can vary by experience.
If the controller connects to Windows but not Roblox
Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm Windows sees the controller. If it does not appear or connect in Windows, Roblox cannot use it. Reconnect the USB cable or check Bluetooth before troubleshooting Roblox.
- Close and relaunch Roblox. Exit Roblox completely, connect the controller, and start Roblox again. This gives the client a clean chance to detect the device.
- Try USB. A wired connection can show whether the problem is Bluetooth pairing, wireless interference, or battery-related.
- Try another experience. If the controller works elsewhere, the original experience may not implement the controls you are testing.
- Use the current app. Install and test Roblox – Windows rather than the older Store version. After confirming the new app works, remove the older Roblox app to avoid launching the wrong version.
- Disconnect other input devices. Temporarily unplug other gamepads, racing wheels, and similar devices so Roblox has only one controller to identify.
- Close remapping and virtual-input software. Controller remappers, overlays, macro tools, and virtual gamepad applications can interfere with the Roblox client or make Windows expose the wrong device.
- Re-pair Bluetooth. Remove the controller from Windows Bluetooth devices and add it again. Also make sure it is not still connected to a console, phone, or another computer.
- Update the controller firmware. Use the manufacturer’s official update utility when one is available. Sony provides the PlayStation Accessories application for updating DualSense software on PC.
- Check Roblox’s PC requirements if the app will not start. Roblox currently lists 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 and DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support for PC. This is a separate issue from controller detection.
When a USB cable powers the controller but Roblox receives no input
The most likely cause is a charge-only cable. Try another cable known to transfer data, connect directly to the PC rather than through an unpowered hub, and wait for Windows to recognize the device. If the controller still only charges, test another USB port or another computer to distinguish a cable problem from a controller or driver problem.
When Bluetooth says “Connected” but there is no input
Turn the controller off, remove it from Windows Bluetooth devices, restart Bluetooth, and pair it again. Keep other Bluetooth gamepads disconnected during the test. If USB works but Bluetooth does not, the controller is probably usable and the remaining problem is pairing, the PC’s Bluetooth hardware, interference, or its driver.
