AMD Adrenalin 24.8.1 did not add Black Myth: Wukong as a new-game-support title. Released on August 29, 2024, the Windows Radeon driver addressed intermittent crashes and driver timeouts in Black Myth: Wukong under “Fixed Issues and Improvements.” Its actual new-game-support list covered Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Open Beta, Concord, FINAL FANTASY XVI, and Star Wars Outlaws.

The release also expanded HYPR-Tune support, added an in-game Radeon Anti-Lag 2 option for Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT, improved support for AI applications including Amuse 2.1 and FLUX.1, and expanded Vulkan support. It was a meaningful August 2024 game-ready release, but it is no longer the driver to install by default: AMD has since published much newer Adrenalin packages, including 26.5.2 as of May 2026. Check AMD’s current product-support flow before downloading an old package.

These are AMD’s compatibility and feature claims, not independent benchmark results. The driver did not guarantee a frame-rate increase in every listed game.

Black Myth: Wukong was a stability fix, not new game support
AMD’s release notes list Black Myth: Wukong under fixed issues and improvements. The documented problem was intermittent application crashes or driver timeouts while playing. That makes 24.8.1 relevant to players experiencing those symptoms, but it is not accurate to describe the driver as adding a new compatibility profile for the game.
There was also an important remaining problem. AMD reported that shadows could appear overly dark or colors could look desaturated when Global Illumination was set to Medium or higher. The temporary workaround was to set Global Illumination to Low. AMD indicated that a later 24.9.1 release was targeted for the fix. In other words, 24.8.1 did not eliminate every known Wukong graphics issue.

Other game fixes in 24.8.1
Beyond Wukong, AMD listed the following fixes and improvements:
- Intermittent crashes in Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess on some Radeon RX 6600- and RX 6700-series graphics cards.
- Intermittent crashes or driver timeouts while launching Pacific Drive or KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-.
- Incorrect AMD Software anti-aliasing or anisotropic-filtering settings being applied in OpenGL applications.
- Graphical artifacts in games including Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Rust.
- Increased memory use in some versions of Minecraft Java Edition.
- Improved shader-optimization startup time in Forza Motorsport.
Star Wars Outlaws also had a known issue: intermittent corruption could occur after certain in-game graphics-setting changes. AMD’s temporary advice was to relaunch the game. That issue was not presented as fully resolved by the release.

HYPR-Tune and FSR 3 frame generation
24.8.1 expanded HYPR-Tune so HYPR-RX could automatically configure AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 frame generation in three additional games: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Automatic configuration does not mean every system receives the same result. FSR 3 frame generation depends on game support, graphics settings, GPU performance, and the frame rate being produced before generated frames are added. Treat HYPR-Tune as a convenience feature rather than a promise of better image quality or universally higher performance.

Radeon Anti-Lag 2 in Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT received an in-game Radeon Anti-Lag 2 option for compatible AMD RDNA-based discrete and integrated graphics products. Unlike a generic driver toggle, this implementation requires developer integration into the game.
AMD reported up to a 28% latency decrease in its own test when comparing the same configuration with and without Anti-Lag 2. The test used:
- Radeon RX 7800 XT
- AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory
- MSI MEG X670E ACE motherboard
- Windows 11 Pro
- 4K Very High settings
- FSR 3 frame generation enabled
- DirectX 12 and the game’s Start of Game benchmark
- AMD Frame Latency Meter
That is an AMD-supplied result from a specific test configuration, not an independent benchmark or a guarantee for every Radeon system. AMD also states that FSR and Anti-Lag 2 require developer integration and are available only in selected games.

AI and Vulkan changes
AMD described 24.8.1 as adding support and optimization for Amuse 2.1 and FLUX.1 on Radeon hardware. The release notes specify hardware and memory requirements, so compatibility depends on the particular GPU and system rather than on the driver version alone.
On the API side, the package expanded Vulkan support to include VK_KHR_video_decode_av1. This is a developer and application-compatibility change; it should not be rewritten as a guaranteed gaming-performance improvement.
Known issues to consider before installing
AMD’s known-issues list still included several problems in the 24.8.1 release:
- Audio and video could become desynchronized when recording AV1 video.
- AMD Software could launch unexpectedly after the system woke from sleep.
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 could intermittently time out or crash.
- Performance could intermittently drop when entering certain areas in DayZ.
- Black Myth: Wukong could show overly dark shadows or desaturated colors with Global Illumination set to Medium or higher.
A release can fix one game-specific failure while leaving other known issues in place. If a particular known issue affects your main game, read the release notes and consider a newer driver rather than installing 24.8.1 solely because it was marketed as a 2024 game-ready package.

Driver version, operating systems, and supported hardware
The package included AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 24.8.1, with driver version 24.10.37.04 and Windows Driver Store version 32.0.11037.4004. AMD supplied installers for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. A package was also provided with Vega and Polaris support for systems pairing an RDNA product with older Polaris or Vega graphics.
AMD’s listed desktop Radeon families included:
- Radeon RX 7900, 7800, 7700, 7600, 6900, 6800, 6700, 6600, 6500, and 6400 series
- Radeon RX 5700, 5600, 5500, and 5300 series
Reference notebook support covered selected Radeon RX 7900M, 6800M, 6700M, 6600M, 6500M, 6300M, 5700M, 5600M, 5500M, and 5300M products.
There are important scope limitations:
- Notebook and all-in-one owners may need drivers from their computer manufacturer for system-specific features and customizations.
- The package did not include support for handheld gaming devices.
- Apple Boot Camp Radeon products were excluded from the intended installation scope.
AMD reported that the package passed its WHQL test suite and Microsoft certification. WHQL status confirms the driver’s certification testing; it does not mean every game or hardware configuration is free of bugs.

Usually, no. If you are reading this as a historical reference, testing an August 2024 software environment, or investigating whether a later driver introduced a regression, 24.8.1 may be useful. For ordinary current-day gaming, install the latest driver offered for your exact Radeon product through AMD’s support site or, for laptops and all-in-ones, check the manufacturer’s support page first.
If Windows still reports a missing, outdated, or incompatible hardware driver after you check the official AMD or OEM package, Outbyte Driver Updater is an optional way to check for driver updates; it is not required to install 24.8.1.
If you specifically experienced the Black Myth: Wukong crashes or driver timeouts documented by AMD in 2024, 24.8.1 was a reasonable version to test at the time. It was not a universal cure: keep Global Illumination at Low if the dark-shadow or desaturated-color issue remains, and do not assume that a clean installation will resolve unrelated system, game, or hardware problems.

If you are reproducing the 24.8.1 environment
- Confirm that the PC uses a supported Radeon GPU and 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Download the archived package only from AMD’s official release-note or support pages, not from an unofficial driver mirror.
- Record your current driver version and create a restore point or other recovery option before changing drivers.
- Install the package, restart Windows, and verify the version in AMD Software or Windows Device Manager.
- Test the specific game or application that motivated the rollback, rather than judging the release from one unrelated benchmark.
- If the result is worse, return to the current recommended driver or use the recovery method created before installation.
What 24.8.1 did not promise
- It did not guarantee higher FPS in Black Myth: Wukong.
- It did not guarantee that every Radeon configuration would stop crashing.
- It did not make Black Myth: Wukong a new-game-support entry.
- It did not independently validate performance in all of the listed games.
- It did not make Anti-Lag 2 or FSR 3 available in every game.
- It is not the current AMD driver in 2026.
The most accurate description is narrower: Adrenalin 24.8.1 was an August 2024 Windows Radeon release that added support for four named games, expanded several AMD features, and fixed an intermittent Black Myth: Wukong crash or timeout problem while retaining a known lighting and color issue.
