Connect a DualSense controller to a Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11 PC with a USB-C cable, or pair it over Bluetooth. Then check the game’s own controller-support information: a successful connection does not guarantee that a game recognizes the controller or supports its advanced features. On PC, Sony says haptic feedback requires USB, while adaptive triggers work only in supported games.

What you need to know before connecting

Sony lists Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 as supporting DualSense connections over USB and Bluetooth. Choose USB-C if you want a wired connection or need haptic feedback in a supported PC game. Choose Bluetooth if you want to play without a cable and the game’s controller support meets your needs.

Connection and game compatibility are separate questions. Windows may pair with the controller, but the game still has to recognize it. Even in a compatible game, the available features depend on that title and, for some functions, on whether the controller is connected by USB.

Choose USB-C or Bluetooth

Connection What it offers Feature considerations
USB-C Wired connection to the PC Required for PC haptic feedback. Adaptive triggers may also require USB in select games.
Bluetooth Wireless connection without a cable Do not assume it provides the same feature set as USB. Haptic feedback on PC requires USB.

Either method can connect the controller, but neither guarantees that every PlayStation PC game supports every DualSense function. Check the game’s own support details before deciding which connection method to use.

PlayStation DualSense™ Wireless Controller – Midnight Black - For PS5, PC, MAC & Mobile
  • Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions through haptic feedback
  • Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
  • Chat online through the built-in microphone and connect a headset directly through the 3.5mm jack
  • Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
  • Play on more devices using the USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to connect easily to Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones as well as your PlayStation 5

Pair the DualSense over Bluetooth

  1. Turn off the controller. If the player indicator is lit, hold the PS button until it turns off. Disconnect any USB cable.
  2. Put the controller in pairing mode. Hold the Create button, then hold the PS button until the light bar starts blinking.
  3. Open Bluetooth settings on the PC. Turn on Bluetooth and select the controller from the available-device list.
  4. Check the indicator. The light bar blinks while pairing; after pairing, the player indicator lights up.

A DualSense controller can be paired with only one device at a time. If you move it to a different device, expect to pair it again rather than assuming the previous pairing will work on both.

Connect with a USB-C cable

Connect the controller to the PC with a USB-C cable. Sony documents USB-C as a supported connection for compatible devices. For PC haptic feedback, Sony’s guidance requires a USB connection; adaptive triggers may require USB in select games.

  • Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
  • Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
  • Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
  • DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
  • PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.

Use the wired connection when haptics are important to you, and check the individual game’s feature notes to find out whether it supports haptics or adaptive triggers. A cable alone cannot add support that the game does not provide.

Check whether a PlayStation PC game supports the controller

Use the game’s own support information

Controller support varies by title. For a game on Steam, look at its store page for the “Full Controller Support” or “Partial Controller Support” label. These labels indicate the level of controller support; they do not establish that every DualSense-specific feature is available.

  • Find your voice, share your passion - Chat online through the built-in microphone. Connect a headset directly via the 3.5mm jack. Record and broadcast your epic gaming moments with the create button
  • A gaming icon in your hands - Enjoy a comfortable, evolved design with an iconic layout and enhanced sticks. Hear higher-fidelity** sound effects through the built-in speaker in supported games
  • Multi-device connectivity - Connect using a USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth technology and easily play on more devices including Windows PC and Mac computers.
  • Elevate PC gaming with advanced features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in a range of blockbuster PC titles.

Sony’s PlayStation PC accessories information lists selected compatible Steam games, including Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, Horizon Forbidden West, Returnal and The Last of Us Part I. Treat these as examples, not a complete list or a permanent guarantee. Check the current information for the specific game you intend to play.

Check advanced features separately

  • Adaptive triggers: Work when supported by the game; USB may be required in select games.
  • Haptic feedback: Requires a USB connection on PC and support in the game.
  • Built-in microphone and speaker: Available on Windows PC when supported by the game.
  • Headset jack: Requires a wired connection to the PC.

Do not infer feature support from the fact that a controller pairs successfully, or from a general controller-support label. For the functions that matter to you, look for game-specific information and use the connection method the feature requires.

Update controller software on Windows

Sony provides the PlayStation Accessories Windows app as a way to update DualSense controller software on a PC. If you are troubleshooting or want to update the controller, use that official app rather than treating an unverified third-party driver utility as a required part of setup.

Troubleshoot pairing or connection problems

  1. For Bluetooth, restart the pairing process. Make sure the controller is off, disconnect its USB cable, and repeat the Create-plus-PS pairing sequence until the light bar blinks. Then select it from the PC’s available Bluetooth devices.
  2. For a wired connection, verify the connection. Connect the controller to the PC with a USB-C cable. If you are trying to use haptic feedback, Bluetooth will not meet Sony’s stated USB requirement.
  3. Check whether the issue is limited to one game. A working PC connection does not establish that a particular game supports the controller or the feature you are trying to use. Review that game’s controller and feature information.
  4. Reset the controller if pairing steps do not resolve the problem. Sony recommends resetting it when connection problems persist after the pairing instructions.
  5. Contact PlayStation Repairs if the problem continues. Sony directs users to PlayStation Repairs for continuing controller issues.

What to expect when you start a game

Once connected, launch the game and judge support by what that title documents and recognizes—not by the connection indicator alone. A game may support basic controller input without supporting haptics, adaptive triggers, or the built-in audio hardware. If a particular advanced feature is missing, check its game-specific support and connection requirements before changing unrelated PC settings.

The practical choice is straightforward: Bluetooth is the cable-free option; USB-C is the option to use when PC haptic feedback matters. In both cases, the game’s own support determines which controller functions are available.
