To connect a second wireless controller to an Xbox One, turn on the console and controller, press and release the console’s bind button, then press and hold the controller’s bind button within 20 seconds. The Xbox button flashes while pairing and stays lit when the controller connects.
Pair the second wireless controller
- Turn on the Xbox One.
- Insert working AA batteries or a charged rechargeable battery into the controller, then press and hold its Xbox button to turn it on.
- Press and release the bind button on the console.
- Within 20 seconds, press and hold the bind button on the controller. Wait for its Xbox button to stop flashing and remain lit.

Find the console bind button
On Xbox One S and Xbox One X, the bind button is on the front right, below the power button. The manual excerpt does not establish the bind-button location for other Xbox One revisions, so check the markings on your console or its manual rather than assuming the S/X location applies.
If the controller does not connect
- It will not turn on: Check that the AA batteries are working or recharge the battery pack.
- The Xbox button keeps flashing: The controller is still searching for the console. Confirm you pressed and released the console bind button first, then held the controller bind button within 20 seconds.
- You need rechargeable power: A rechargeable battery, including one from the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit, is an option; the kit is not required for pairing.
The documented steps cover wireless bind-button pairing; they do not establish a USB-cable pairing procedure.
