The PS5 DualSense Edge works with a Mac over Bluetooth or USB if the Mac is running macOS Ventura 13.3 or later. For Bluetooth, turn off the controller, hold Create + PS until the light bar flashes, then choose DualSense Edge in System Settings > Bluetooth. For USB, use a cable that supports both data and charging—not a charge-only cable.
Sony’s support information covers compatible games and applications rather than every Mac program. The controller can work normally as a gamepad while advanced features such as haptics, built-in audio, adaptive triggers, or Edge customization remain limited by macOS, the connection type, and the game.
Before you start
- Charge the DualSense Edge.
- Use a Mac running macOS Ventura 13.3 or later for the conservative general compatibility requirement. Sony’s separate Remote Play documentation lists an older minimum for that app, but Ventura 13.3 or later is the safer baseline for general Edge support.
- Use Bluetooth for wireless play, or a USB-C cable that supports data and charging for wired play.
- If the controller keeps connecting to a PS5, turn the PS5 off temporarily while pairing.
For official compatibility information, see Sony’s controller support page and Apple’s guide to connecting PlayStation controllers to Apple devices.
Connect the DualSense Edge by Bluetooth
- Disconnect the USB cable from the controller.
- Turn off the Edge. If its player indicator is lit, hold the PS button until the controller powers down.
- Press and hold the Create button.
- While holding Create, press and hold the PS button.
- Keep holding both buttons until the light bar begins flashing.
- On the Mac, open Apple menu > System Settings > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on if necessary, then select DualSense Edge in the nearby-devices list.
- Wait for macOS to show the controller as connected.
The flashing light should stop once pairing completes. Press the PS button later to reconnect the controller when the Mac is awake and Bluetooth is enabled.

Sony’s traditional pairing instructions describe pairing the controller with one device at a time. Sony has also announced newer firmware with multi-device pairing for DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers. That feature depends on the controller’s firmware and should not be assumed to be available on every Edge.
Connect the DualSense Edge with USB
- Use the supplied braided cable or another USB-C cable explicitly rated for data and charging.
- Connect the USB-C end to the Edge.
- Connect the other end directly to the Mac, using a compatible USB-C port or adapter.
- Wait for macOS and the game or application to detect the controller.
- If the game was already running, quit and relaunch it.
USB is often the best troubleshooting method because it avoids Bluetooth interference, charges the controller while you play, and is required for using the Edge’s headset jack with a Mac. A charge-only cable may power the controller without allowing macOS to recognize it as an input device. Apple recommends connecting the controller directly to the computer when possible.
Use the Edge with Mac games
A successful Bluetooth or USB connection does not guarantee that a game supports the controller. The game must accept controller input through macOS.
- Native Mac games: Check the game’s controller settings and support notes. Some games recognize the Edge as a conventional gamepad; others may not support controllers.
- Steam: Steam Input may help when a game does not recognize the controller directly. Try Steam Input both enabled and disabled because the best setting varies by game. Button prompts may use Xbox-style labels even when the Edge is working correctly.
- Non-Steam games: Use the game’s own input settings. Compatibility is determined by the application, not simply by macOS showing the controller as connected.
- Cloud gaming and emulators: Support depends on the service or emulator and its input-mapping options.
For general game support, Sony’s guidance is to use the controller with compatible games and applications. The Edge may operate as a standard gamepad even when its premium controls are unavailable.

Use the Edge with PS Remote Play
- Install the official PS Remote Play app for Mac.
- Sign in with the PlayStation account associated with the PS5.
- Update and configure the PS5 for Remote Play.
- Connect the Edge to the Mac by Bluetooth or USB.
- Launch Remote Play and select the PS5.
Sony documents DualSense Edge support for Remote Play on Mac. Its Remote Play materials separately identify macOS Big Sur 11.3 or later, while Sony’s Edge compatibility information uses Ventura 13.3 or later for general support. Use Ventura 13.3 or later as the safer overall requirement.
Bluetooth controller use may require the current Remote Play app; Sony’s product documentation identifies version 4.1 on macOS for Bluetooth controller play. Sony also says a USB-connected DualSense or DualSense Edge can provide haptic feedback in Remote Play. Do not extend that claim to ordinary Mac games.
What works on Mac?
| Feature | Mac behavior |
|---|---|
| Buttons, D-pad, sticks, triggers, touch pad | Generally usable when the game or application supports the relevant input. |
| Bluetooth | Supported on compatible macOS versions. |
| USB | Supported with a data-capable cable; usually the simplest connection to diagnose. |
| Headset jack | Requires a wired USB connection to the Mac; it is not supported over Bluetooth. |
| Built-in microphone and speaker | Not compatible with Mac according to Sony’s support information. |
| Haptic feedback | Sony says haptic feedback is not compatible with Mac computers. Remote Play may provide haptics through a USB-connected controller under Sony’s stated conditions. |
| Adaptive triggers | Only available in supported games and situations; do not expect them universally on Mac. |
| Back buttons and profiles | Configured settings may remain on the controller, but macOS does not expose Sony’s full Windows customization interface. |
| Firmware updates | Sony documents updates through a PS5 or Windows PC, not a native macOS PlayStation Accessories updater. |
Update the controller’s firmware
Sony’s documented update routes are:
- PS5: Open Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller Device Software.
- Windows PC: Use Sony’s PlayStation Accessories application.
Sony does not identify a native macOS updater in the cited support documentation. Avoid treating unofficial firmware utilities as Sony-supported solutions.
Troubleshooting
The Edge does not appear in Bluetooth
- Confirm that the controller is off.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Hold Create + PS until the light bar flashes.
- Turn Mac Bluetooth off and on again.
- In Bluetooth settings, use Forget This Device for an old DualSense Edge entry, then pair again.
- Move the controller close to the Mac and temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth accessories.
- Restart the Mac.
- If it still will not pair, press the small reset button on the back of the controller and try again.
If resetting does not help, follow Sony’s controller repair guidance at PlayStation Support.

The Mac says connected, but the game ignores it
Quit and relaunch the game after connecting the controller, then inspect the game’s controller settings. Try another controller-compatible application and test over USB. In Steam, test Steam Input both on and off. If USB works but Bluetooth does not, the controller is likely functional and the remaining problem is Bluetooth state, interference, or game-specific support.
Only some buttons work
The game may support generic controller input without supporting every Edge-specific control. Steam Input or another remapping layer may also be changing the layout. Back buttons, profiles, adaptive triggers, and touch-pad behavior depend on the application. Xbox-style button prompts are common and do not necessarily indicate a fault.
There is no vibration or adaptive-trigger effect
This may be normal. Sony specifically lists haptic feedback as incompatible with Mac computers, while adaptive triggers depend on the game and platform. Test with USB only if you are using Remote Play, where Sony documents a separate haptic-feedback scenario.
Audio does not work through the controller
The Edge’s built-in speaker and microphone are not compatible with Mac. The headset jack requires USB, not Bluetooth. With a wired connection, check System Settings > Sound and the game’s audio-output settings. A headset connected directly to the Mac may be more reliable.

The Edge keeps connecting to the PS5
- Turn off the PS5 temporarily.
- Disconnect the controller from USB.
- Hold Create + PS to enter Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Select the Edge in the Mac’s Bluetooth settings.
If the controller has firmware supporting multi-device pairing, use Sony’s device-switching procedure after verifying that the feature is installed and supported on that controller. Sony describes the feature in its multi-device pairing announcement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Reconnect the Edge to a PS5
The most dependable method is to connect the controller to the PS5 with a USB data cable and press the PS button. If the Edge remains associated with the Mac, disconnect it from the Mac first or turn Bluetooth off temporarily. Pairing it with another device may require repeating the device’s normal pairing process. Newer multi-device firmware can make switching easier, but behavior depends on the installed firmware.
Bluetooth or USB: which should you use?
Choose Bluetooth for a cable-free setup and casual play. Choose USB when reliability, charging, headset audio, or troubleshooting matters more. If the Edge works over USB but not Bluetooth, continue diagnosing pairing and wireless conditions rather than replacing the controller immediately.

Can I use headphones through the Edge on Mac?
Yes, but Sony requires a wired USB connection for the controller’s headset jack. The jack is not supported over Bluetooth.
Why does macOS see the controller but my game does not?
A Bluetooth connection only confirms that macOS sees the device. The game must separately support controller input. Relaunch it, check its controller settings, and try Steam Input or USB where appropriate.
