On Windows, hold the controller’s Pair button for three seconds, then choose it through Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device. On mobile, turn on Bluetooth, put the controller into pairing mode, and select it from the device list. Charging requires a USB-C cable, which is sold separately.
Which connection should you use?
The Nano has two relevant wireless paths. Xbox Wireless is the console connection for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Bluetooth is the connection documented for Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs, Android phones and tablets, iPhone and iPad, and compatible smart TVs. The host device determines the setup: a console uses its controller-pairing control, while a PC or mobile device uses its Bluetooth settings.

The available documentation does not establish latency differences, battery-life figures, a firmware-version schedule, a Bluetooth-profile list, or a game-by-game compatibility matrix. Do not treat those specifications as settled facts when choosing a connection.
Before you pair the controller
Charge it if it will not turn on
The Nano has an internal rechargeable battery. Charging requires a USB-C cable, and the cable is sold separately according to the 2026 XBOX product information. If the Xbox button does not light when you press it, connect a suitable USB-C charging cable and allow the controller to charge before diagnosing wireless pairing. The available sources do not say that every USB-C cable supports data, nor do they specify every charger configuration, so use a cable and charger that meet the seller’s stated electrical requirements.

Keep the first pairing close
Place the controller near the console, computer, or mobile device while pairing. A short distance removes a common cause of discovery failures and makes it easier to see whether the Xbox button is flashing or staying lit.
Know which button indicates pairing
Turn the controller on with the Xbox button. Hold the Pair button for three seconds when using Bluetooth. The Xbox button flashes while the controller searches; it remains lit after a successful connection. This light behavior is the quickest way to distinguish an unpaired controller from one that has completed setup.
Connect to Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One
Xbox consoles use Xbox Wireless with the Nano. The official product information lists both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One as compatible console families.
- Turn on the Xbox console.
- Press the Xbox button on the Nano to turn on the controller.
- Press the controller’s Pair button.
- Use the console’s controller-pairing control to search for the Nano.
- Wait for the Xbox button on the controller to remain lit. A steady light indicates that the wireless link has been established.
If the console does not find it
- Make sure the controller is powered on rather than merely holding the Pair button while it is off.
- Repeat the controller and console pairing actions with the controller close to the console.
- Charge the controller if the Xbox button never lights or goes dark during the attempt.
- Do not substitute the Windows Bluetooth procedure on the console; the documented console path is Xbox Wireless.
Exact on-screen prompts and the physical location of the console’s pairing control can differ between Xbox generations. Follow the pairing prompt shown by your particular console while keeping the controller’s Xbox button in view.

Connect to a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC over Bluetooth
Windows uses the system Bluetooth menu. The labels below are the current path documented for Xbox controllers; minor wording can vary after a Windows update.
- Press the Xbox button to turn on the Nano.
- Hold the Pair button for three seconds. The Xbox button flashes while the controller is discoverable.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Turn Bluetooth on if it is off.
- Select Add device, choose the Bluetooth option, and select the Xbox controller when it appears.
- Wait for Windows to report the connection and for the controller’s Xbox button to stay lit.
Using Xbox Wireless on a compatible PC
Some PCs support Xbox Wireless in addition to Bluetooth. Microsoft’s documented sequence is to hold the Xbox button until it flashes, hold the Pair button until the flashing becomes faster, then open Add device > Everything else and choose the Xbox controller. Use this path only when the computer actually has supported Xbox Wireless hardware; otherwise use Bluetooth.
Desktop PCs without Bluetooth
A Windows desktop that has no built-in Bluetooth cannot complete the Bluetooth steps until Bluetooth hardware is added. A compatible USB Bluetooth adapter is a practical solution inferred from Windows’ requirement that Bluetooth be enabled. Xbox Wireless hardware supported by that PC is another possible route. Adapter compatibility, driver behavior, and Xbox Wireless hardware support are computer-specific, so confirm those details for the particular desktop before buying anything.
Confirming that Windows is ready for play
Once the Xbox button remains lit, launch a game that supports controller input. A successful Windows pairing does not guarantee that every game accepts a controller; support is determined by the game and its input settings.

Connect to an Android phone or tablet
The official XBOX compatibility information lists Android Bluetooth support. Android manufacturers place Bluetooth controls in different menus, so the names below describe the action rather than one guaranteed screen path.
- Open the phone or tablet’s Bluetooth settings.
- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Press the Xbox button to turn on the Nano.
- Hold the Pair button for three seconds until the Xbox button flashes.
- Tap the Xbox controller in the list of available devices.
- Wait for the controller to show as connected and for the Xbox button to remain lit.
- Open a game that supports controller input and check its input settings if the controls do not respond.
Android menu differences
Depending on the manufacturer and Android version, Bluetooth may be under Settings > Connected devices, Settings > Connections, or a similarly named section. Use the device’s Bluetooth search screen and select the controller when it appears; the controller-side procedure does not change.
Connect to an iPhone or iPad
iOS and iPadOS use the standard Bluetooth settings screen. The XBOX product information lists iOS Bluetooth compatibility, while Apple’s wording and individual game support can change with operating-system versions.

- Turn Bluetooth on.
- Press the Xbox button to turn on the Nano.
- Hold the Pair button for three seconds until the Xbox button flashes.
- Select the Xbox controller when it appears under available devices.
- Wait until it is shown as connected and the Xbox button remains lit.
- Start a controller-compatible game. If it does not respond, inspect the game’s controller or input settings.
When the controller appears but a game ignores it
Pairing and game support are separate steps. iOS can show a connected controller even when a particular game accepts only touch input or requires controller support to be enabled in its own settings. Test with a game identified as controller-compatible rather than assuming every title will use the Nano.

Bluetooth pairing troubleshooting
The controller never appears in the device list
- Press the Xbox button first so the controller is on.
- Hold Pair for the full three seconds and confirm that the Xbox button is flashing.
- Keep the controller near the host device.
- Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on Windows, Android, or iOS.
- Remove an old Xbox controller entry from the host’s Bluetooth settings, then start a new search.
- If the controller still cannot enter pairing mode, charge it with a USB-C cable and retry.
The Xbox button flashes but pairing fails
Flashing means the controller is searching, not that it has connected. On Windows, return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device and select the controller from the discovery list. On a phone or tablet, remain on the Bluetooth discovery screen until the controller is listed. If an earlier entry is present, remove it before trying again.
The button stays lit but games do not respond
- Confirm that the operating system reports the controller as connected.
- Check that the game supports controller input.
- Open the game’s input or controller settings and enable or select the controller if that option exists.
- Close and reopen the game after pairing if it was already running.
The available authoritative documentation does not provide a Nano-specific firmware table or a title-by-title compatibility list, so those are not reliable troubleshooting targets without additional model-specific information.
The controller powers off during setup
Recharge it before repeating the pairing process. A low charge can look like a wireless or software failure because the Xbox button may stop flashing or go dark. The Nano’s internal battery and the separately sold USB-C charging requirement are the relevant hardware facts established for this model.

Size, weight, and launch price
Xbox Wire’s October 14, 2026 announcement lists the Nano at $49.99, a little over 5 inches long, and 3.5 ounces. Those are launch-announcement figures; the dimensions refer to the controller rather than packaging, and the announcement does not establish a recurring price, regional pricing, taxes, or retailer availability.
“The XBOX Nano Controller, at $49.99, gives players a new, approachable option for jumping in and sharing the fun.”
A connection decision checklist
- Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One: use Xbox Wireless and the console’s controller-pairing control.
- Windows 10/11 laptop or desktop with Bluetooth: use the Pair button, then Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device.
- Windows desktop without Bluetooth: add a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter or use supported Xbox Wireless hardware.
- Android: use the device’s Bluetooth settings, then select the controller while its Xbox button flashes.
- iPhone or iPad: use Settings > Bluetooth, then select the controller.
- Any host: charge first if the controller will not power on, and verify game-specific controller support after pairing.
What the documentation does—and does not—confirm
The confirmed compatibility scope is Xbox Wireless for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, plus Bluetooth for Windows 10/11 PCs, Android, iOS, tablets, and compatible smart TVs. The confirmed Windows menu is Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device, and the confirmed charging detail is a separately sold USB-C cable.
There is no published Nano-specific evidence in the cited authoritative material for latency comparisons between Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth, battery runtime, a firmware-version table, Bluetooth profiles, or a complete game compatibility matrix. Those omissions matter when interpreting third-party claims: pairing instructions can be stated confidently, but performance numbers and universal game support require separate verification.
