Xbox does not provide a dependable, built-in Add Server by address box for Minecraft Bedrock. To join a dedicated server, use either a custom-DNS redirect such as BedrockConnect, or the Bedrock Together phone app on the same Wi-Fi network. A Bedrock server must also be reachable over the correct UDP port—normally 19132 for IPv4 or 19133 for IPv6.

The instructions below apply to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S running Minecraft Bedrock. Menu wording can change between game updates, and third-party DNS addresses or apps can change, so confirm their current instructions before entering an address. This guide reflects the networking information available on October 14, 2026.

What you need before trying to connect
Have these details ready from the server owner or hosting panel:
- The server’s numeric IP address. In the connection methods described here, use the IP shown in the server panel rather than a custom hostname.
- The Bedrock port. Unless the administrator changed it, the usual IPv4 port is 19132; the usual IPv6 port is 19133.
- Permission to join, if the server uses an allowlist, authentication plugin, or other access control.
- An Xbox connected to the internet and signed in to the Microsoft account used by Minecraft.
- For Bedrock Together, an Android or iPhone on the same local Wi-Fi network as the Xbox.
Java Edition connection information is not interchangeable with Bedrock information. A Java server address, Java port, or Java-only account setup will not automatically work in the Xbox edition.

Choose the right connection method

If you are connecting from a different location and do not want to run a phone app beside the console, start with BedrockConnect. If the Xbox and phone are on the same household Wi-Fi, Bedrock Together avoids changing the console’s DNS.
Method 1: connect with BedrockConnect DNS
This method changes the Xbox DNS resolver so a Featured Server entry can be redirected to a BedrockConnect menu. From that menu, you enter the actual server IP and Bedrock port. It does not add a permanent server tile to the normal Servers list.

- On the Xbox home screen, open Settings.
- Choose General, then Network settings.
- Open Advanced settings and select DNS settings.
- Choose Manual instead of Automatic.
- Enter a current BedrockConnect primary DNS address. Addresses reported for this service include 104.238.130.180, 173.82.100.84 for the United States, and 217.160.58.93 for Germany. These are third-party addresses, can change, and the first address has been reported as unreliable for some players. Check the service’s current documentation and choose the address appropriate for your region.
- For secondary DNS, enter 8.8.8.8 if the current BedrockConnect instructions still specify it. If the service documents a different secondary value, follow that current value instead.
- Accept the settings and run the Xbox network test. If the test reports a DNS or internet error, return to DNS settings and restore Automatic before trying another address.
Changing DNS affects name lookups for the Xbox connection; it does not open an inbound port on your router and does not change the server itself.

Reach the custom server screen
- Launch Minecraft and open the Play screen.
- Switch to the Servers tab.
- Select any available Featured Server. The exact featured-server names can change.
- On the resulting screen, choose Connect to a Server or the equivalent BedrockConnect option.
- Type the server’s numeric IP address in the address field.
- Enter the Bedrock port supplied by the administrator. If no alternate port was supplied, try 19132 for an IPv4 server.
- Submit the form and wait for the server list or connection attempt to complete.
Bedrock’s console flow does not reliably resolve custom domains or Java-style SRV records through this redirect. If a host gives you a domain name, ask for the underlying Bedrock IP and port shown in its control panel.
Return to normal Xbox networking
When you finish, open Settings > General > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings and select Automatic. Run the network test again. Restoring Automatic removes the redirect; it does not uninstall Minecraft or affect saved worlds.
Method 2: connect with Bedrock Together
Bedrock Together presents a server as a LAN game to Minecraft on the Xbox. The server itself can be elsewhere, but the phone running the app and the Xbox must share the same local network.

Prepare the network
- Connect the phone to the same home Wi-Fi network as the Xbox.
- Do not use mobile data on the phone while attempting the transfer.
- A guest Wi-Fi network may isolate devices, so use the main network if the Xbox cannot see the advertised game.
- Disable battery-saving restrictions that suspend the app in the background.
Send the server details
- Install and open Bedrock Together on the phone from its current official app listing.
- Enter the server IP address and Bedrock port. Use the port supplied by the administrator rather than assuming the default when a custom port is configured.
- Start the app’s transfer, broadcast, or start-server function.
- Keep the app open and leave the phone awake. Locking the screen or force-closing the app can stop the LAN advertisement.
- On Xbox, open Minecraft and choose Play.
- Open the Worlds tab and look under the joinable LAN games. Select the advertised server and choose Join.
No Xbox DNS change is required for this route. If the LAN entry does not appear, verify that both devices received addresses from the same router and that client isolation is disabled; moving the phone off a guest network is often the decisive fix.
Server-side settings that determine whether a join can work
Console-side steps cannot compensate for a stopped server, a closed firewall, or a port forwarded with the wrong protocol. The administrator should check the host before troubleshooting the Xbox.
Confirm the Bedrock service and port

Microsoft’s Bedrock server documentation and the Minecraft networking references identify UDP for the traditional Bedrock connection. The router’s port-forward rule and the host firewall rule must use the same UDP port that the server process is actually listening on.

Forward the port safely
- Give the server host a stable private address on the local network, preferably with a DHCP reservation.
- Create a router port-forward rule from the chosen external UDP port to that private address and the server’s listening UDP port.
- Allow the same UDP port through the host operating system’s firewall.
- Restart or reload the Bedrock service after changing
server.properties. - Have a player outside the home network test the address. Testing from inside the same LAN can fail on routers that do not support hairpin NAT even when outside access is correct.
Only forward the port the server needs. Do not expose router administration, remote-desktop services, or unrelated game ports as a workaround.

LAN visibility
If the server is intended to answer local discovery, the administrator can review the enable-lan-visibility setting. This helps a server respond to LAN discovery, but it does not replace a reachable UDP listener or make a remote server appear on an unrelated network. Reports from the Minecraft Feedback Portal indicate that some console LAN discovery behavior expects UDP 19132; treat that as a compatibility observation rather than a guaranteed rule for every current release.
Version-sensitive transport changes
Bedrock networking is not frozen. The Bedrock protocol documentation describes NetherNet, a WebRTC-based transport used alongside legacy RakNet, and reports that NetherNet became the default transport for dedicated servers in version 26.50. Because that change is version-sensitive, a port or firewall recipe that worked on an earlier server build may not cover every current configuration.

Before changing a working server’s ports, check the release notes for the exact Bedrock Dedicated Server version installed. Match the client version, server version, transport requirements, and any documented firewall rules. If the server owner has upgraded around version 26.50 or later and old clients suddenly fail, test a current Xbox game build and review the release-specific networking notes rather than blindly adding more forwards.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The Featured Server never opens the BedrockConnect menu
- Confirm the Xbox DNS setting is still Manual and the primary address matches the service’s current documentation.
- Run the Xbox network test. A DNS error means the resolver address is unavailable or mistyped.
- Try another documented BedrockConnect address for your region; the reported 104.238.130.180 address has had reliability complaints.
- Restart Minecraft after changing DNS. A game session that was already running may retain the previous network state.
- Temporarily restore Automatic DNS to determine whether ordinary Xbox connectivity works without the redirect.
The custom screen opens, but the server times out
- Recheck every digit of the IP and the port. A correct IP with a Java port is still a failed Bedrock connection.
- Ask the administrator whether the server is running and listening on UDP, not only TCP.
- Check router forwarding, host firewall rules, and the server’s
server.propertiesvalue. - Test from a genuinely external network. A local test can be misleading when the router lacks NAT loopback.
- Confirm that an allowlist, authentication requirement, or maintenance mode is not rejecting new players.
The Bedrock Together LAN entry is missing
- Put the phone and Xbox on the same non-guest Wi-Fi network.
- Turn off phone mobile data for the test and keep Wi-Fi enabled.
- Leave the app open, keep the screen awake, and start the transfer again.
- Restart Minecraft after the app begins broadcasting.
- Check the router for wireless-client isolation or access-point isolation, which prevents devices on the same Wi-Fi name from discovering one another.
- Verify that the app contains the server’s current IP and port, then ask the administrator to confirm that the server is online.
The server appears, but joining is refused
A visible entry proves discovery, not authorization. The server may require an allowlist entry, a matching account, a resource-pack response, or a particular game version. Ask the administrator for the exact rejection reason and required client version rather than repeatedly changing DNS.

If the administrator supplied an IPv6 endpoint, confirm that the Xbox network and router both support IPv6 and that the server is listening on its IPv6 port, commonly 19133. Do not substitute the IPv4 default merely because it is more familiar. When both addresses are available, testing the IPv4 endpoint first can isolate whether the failure is specific to IPv6 routing.
Why the Xbox Friends list is not the solution
Bedrock Dedicated Server does not provide the same in-game invite path as Realms. The Bedrock multiplayer documentation describes dedicated servers as unavailable through the Xbox network’s ordinary friends-list join flow. A friend may be online and visible on Xbox while the dedicated server still requires BedrockConnect or a LAN-style method.
Do not rely on a claim that a friend-list invitation alone adds an arbitrary dedicated server. If a particular server advertises a special integration, follow that server’s documented process; it is not a general Xbox Bedrock feature.
