To use an FLV video in a continuous YouTube Live stream, first inspect its audio and video codecs. Remux it if those streams are compatible with your chosen YouTube encoder settings; otherwise, re-encode it. Then play the resulting media through an encoder that sends a continuous feed to YouTube. Converting FLV to MP4 alone does not start or sustain a live broadcast.
FLV conversion and continuous streaming are separate jobs
FLV is a container, not a guarantee about the codecs inside. Changing a filename or putting the same streams into an MP4 container does not make incompatible codecs suitable for a YouTube ingest profile.
FFmpeg distinguishes stream copying from conversion by re-encoding. Stream copying moves compatible streams without encoding them again, which avoids unnecessary processing and generation loss; re-encoding is needed when the existing streams do not meet the target requirements. See the FFmpeg command-line documentation.
YouTube defines an encoder as software that converts video into a digital format to stream on YouTube. Once the file is ready, an encoder must play it and send the feed to YouTube using the stream server URL and stream key.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Inspect the FLV before choosing a conversion
- Record the source details. Inspect the file with a media-information tool or FFmpeg and note the video codec, audio codec, resolution, frame rate, and any extra audio or subtitle tracks. The correct choice depends on these streams, not the .flv extension.
- Choose a target ingest profile. Decide on the resolution and frame rate you intend to stream, then check YouTube’s current settings for the codec and bitrate. YouTube recommends RTMPS for standard encoder settings and lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR). HDR has separate HLS requirements; do not apply those requirements to an ordinary SDR stream. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Remux or re-encode based on compatibility. If the existing audio and video streams are accepted by the target profile and container, use stream copy to remux them. If they are incompatible, re-encode the affected stream or streams. There is no universal FLV-to-MP4 command that is right for every file: the source codecs and desired output profile have not been specified.
- Check the result. Confirm the output plays from beginning to end, has the expected resolution and frame rate, and includes the intended audio. If you re-encoded, check for sync problems, clipping, black frames, or quality changes before relying on it in a continuous playlist.
Set the encoder for YouTube Live
Match codec, bitrate, and keyframes
Use a video and audio codec listed for the protocol you selected. Set bitrate to the row matching your resolution, frame rate, and codec in YouTube’s current table; there is no single bitrate that suits every stream. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed four seconds. Use CBR for the standard RTMP/RTMPS guidance. YouTube also recommends testing your upload bitrate with a speed test and allowing 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and YouTube’s streaming tips.
Connect and preview the stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream in Live Control Room and retrieve the server URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current interface.
- Enter the server URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Start the encoder output and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check stream health, audio, motion, and whether the expected resolution is being received before starting the public broadcast.
- For a prerecorded 24/7 feed, configure playback to continue through playlist transitions and recover from encoder or network interruptions. Test restarts, source transitions, audio continuity, and monitoring before depending on it. YouTube advises previewing and monitoring the stream and checking that local archive files are growing and intact; no specific drive capacity is prescribed. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Check YouTube eligibility and archive limits
YouTube’s published live-stream eligibility guidance requires channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and a minimum age of 16 to live stream. Check the current requirements for your channel at YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that stated automatic-archive window, so do not rely on the automatic archive alone if you need a complete recording. Plan and test a separate recording and retention workflow. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Keep it running: local encoder or cloud service
A local encoder gives you control over playback and configuration, but the computer, encoder, and network must remain available and monitored. A cloud service can move the continuous playback job off your home computer. YouTube’s encoder guidance names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded streaming; that mention alone does not establish its current terms or endorse it.

Troubleshoot common FLV-to-live problems
- YouTube does not receive a preview: verify the server URL and stream key, confirm the encoder is sending rather than merely playing locally, and check the network connection. Regenerate a key if it may have been exposed.
- The file will not remux or YouTube rejects the feed: inspect the actual audio and video codecs and compare them with the chosen YouTube ingest settings. Re-encode incompatible streams rather than assuming the MP4 extension resolves codec incompatibility.
- Video stutters or drops frames: check whether the encoder can sustain the selected resolution, frame rate, and bitrate; verify CBR and the correct keyframe interval; and test available upload speed with the recommended headroom.
- Audio is missing or out of sync: verify the intended audio track was included, confirm its codec is accepted for the selected protocol, and test the converted file locally before sending it live.
- The stream stops during a long broadcast: test recovery after network and encoder restarts, and monitor Live Control Room. A 24/7 schedule needs a playback and recovery plan; converting the source file does not provide one.
- You cannot find a complete YouTube archive: the stated automatic archive applies to streams under 12 hours. Use a separately tested recording workflow for a continuous 24/7 stream.
