How to Create a 24/7 YouTube Stream of Recorded French Lessons

A practical guide to looping recorded French lessons on YouTube Live with OBS, including encoder settings, testing, archive limits, rights, and monetization.

To run recorded French lessons as a continuous YouTube Live stream, enable live streaming on your channel, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, and send it from OBS or another encoder. In OBS, loop a single lesson or a playlist. Test the full sequence before going public, clear the rights to every included asset, and keep a local recording if you need a complete replay: a YouTube stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived.

Before you start: plan the lesson program

A 24/7 stream works best as a deliberate learning program, not just a folder of videos on repeat. Arrange lessons so a viewer joining at any time can understand what they are watching. Add a short introduction or title card where useful, and consider transitions, pauses for exercises, and a sequence that makes sense when it starts over.

  • Check that each recording has clear, audible speech and a suitable aspect ratio.
  • Plan the order and loop point. Avoid cutting off a lesson abruptly when the playlist restarts.
  • Make a list of every image, music track, textbook page, stock clip, and other third-party material in the videos. Confirm that your rights cover streaming it live on YouTube.
  • Decide whether you need a complete replay. YouTube may not capture a broadcast longer than 12 hours, so a local recording or separately managed shorter sessions may be necessary.

Choose how to keep the stream running

Approach Best fit Main tradeoff
StreamNeo cloud playout Creators who want uploaded videos to play continuously without leaving a computer running at home. It is a YouTube-only service for uploaded videos, not a camera-based live production system. Check that its playlist and operating model fit your program.
OBS or another software encoder on a computer Creators who want control over scenes and already have a computer they can leave running. The computer, encoder, network connection, and any local recording storage must remain operational.
Standalone hardware encoder A dedicated setup where an appliance-style encoder is preferred. You must select and configure physical equipment; no specific model is recommended here.

For a do-it-yourself setup, OBS is a practical software route. YouTube also supports standalone encoder hardware. For any cloud service, evaluate the actual features and terms rather than relying only on a vendor’s description.

Set up the YouTube Live stream

  1. Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule a stream. Initial activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance, so do this before the time you intend to launch.
  2. Choose an encoder stream. In the live control room, create or schedule a stream for encoder software. Set the title, description, visibility, and any other event details there. A public stream is visible to viewers; use a non-public test arrangement if you need to check the setup before announcing it.
  3. Copy the stream URL and key. YouTube Studio provides the connection details your encoder needs. Treat the stream key like a password: someone who has it can send content to your channel. YouTube supports reusable custom keys; reset the key if it is exposed or compromised.
  4. Connect OBS. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service if available, and enter or connect the stream key. If using a custom server configuration, copy YouTube’s stream URL and key into the corresponding server and key fields. Do not publish screenshots or recordings that reveal the key.

YouTube’s current setup details are documented in its encoder stream guide and live stream settings guide.

Loop lessons in OBS

Loop one lesson file

  1. In the scene you intend to stream, add a Media Source.
  2. Select the lesson video file.
  3. Enable Loop in the Media Source properties, then confirm the source starts and plays with sound.

OBS describes the Loop property as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes. See the OBS Media Sources guide.

Loop a playlist of lessons

  1. Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
  2. Add a VLC Video source to the scene and add the lesson files in the order you want them played.
  3. Enable Loop Playlist. Enable shuffle only if you want the lesson order to vary between plays.
  4. Preview the playlist through its end and back to the beginning. Check that the first item starts correctly after the last and that audio does not overlap or disappear at transitions.

For a more produced program, create separate scenes for titles or explanatory interstitials and confirm the playlist and scene transitions behave as intended before leaving the stream unattended.

Choose resolution, bitrate, and latency

Use a stable upload connection, test it under realistic conditions, and leave headroom beyond the video bitrate for audio and normal network variation. YouTube’s recommended H.264 encoding bitrates include these examples:

Output YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
1080p at 30 fps 14 Mbit/s
720p at 30 fps 8 Mbit/s

These are encoder bitrate recommendations, not guarantees about the minimum internet plan you need. The actual connection should be tested for stable upload at your chosen settings. YouTube’s guidance also recommends H.264, CBR, AAC or MP3 audio, and a two-second keyframe interval. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution recommendations.

  • Match the output resolution to the source lesson quality. Upscaling a low-resolution recording does not add detail.
  • Choose frame rate to match your source unless you have a production reason to change it.
  • For prerecorded lessons with little or no live interaction, lower latency may be unnecessary. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering for viewers.
  • DVR can let viewers pause and rewind, but rewind availability may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, particularly beyond 12 hours.

Test the complete stream before making it public

  1. Run the same scene, files, resolution, frame rate, and audio configuration you plan to use continuously.
  2. Check the YouTube preview for picture, sound, aspect ratio, and stream health. YouTube advises testing with motion and sound similar to the actual stream.
  3. Watch a playlist transition and a full loop boundary. Check for black frames, missing audio, unintended gaps, or a lesson restarting in the middle.
  4. Confirm the upload connection remains stable at the selected bitrate. Reduce output settings or resolve the network issue if the encoder reports dropped frames or YouTube reports poor stream health.
  5. When the preview is ready, start the stream in YouTube Studio if the event does not start automatically under your chosen setup.

Keep an eye on encoder and network health after launch. With OBS, the computer must remain powered, connected, and running the scene for the stream to continue.

Plan for YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit

A continuous 24/7 broadcast exceeds YouTube’s 12-hour automatic-archive threshold. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not count on one uninterrupted broadcast producing a complete YouTube replay. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup; see its live stream archive guidance.

Protect the channel from copyright and monetization problems

Clear every included element

YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted material. If it identifies content, YouTube may replace the video with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream, or apply a strike. A license does not necessarily prevent detection: YouTube says a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm streaming rights for music, stock footage, textbook pages, and any third-party lesson materials before broadcast. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Make the program meaningfully original

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its policy describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content”; a policy update dated July 15, 2025 clarified that treatment and stated there was no change to the reused-content policy. Similar formats can be acceptable when each delivers distinct creative, educational, or other value, but looping alone does not establish monetization eligibility. Build a French-learning program with original explanations, a coherent curriculum, practice, or other meaningful educational value. Monetization remains a channel-level decision by YouTube. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
