“Shortcut” can mean two different things in Minecraft: an icon that opens the Minecraft Launcher, or a Quick Play shortcut for a favorite world. Use the Launcher shortcut if you want to start the PC app; use Quick Play if your goal is to reach a world. Minecraft describes Quick Play as a way to “Create customized shortcuts to your favorite worlds,” but its public instructions cited here don’t specify the exact clicks or where those shortcuts are saved.

First install Minecraft Launcher using one of Minecraft’s official download options. Then use your computer’s standard method for creating a shortcut to an installed app. The exact steps differ by operating system, and the official materials cited here do not provide verified Windows, macOS, or Linux click-by-click instructions, so avoid following instructions meant for a different system.

Use Quick Play for a favorite world
Quick Play is the relevant feature if you want a shortcut to a particular world rather than an icon that simply opens the Launcher. Minecraft’s download page describes it as creating customized shortcuts to favorite worlds: Minecraft download page.
The official support index lists an article titled “How to Use Quick Play in the Minecraft Launcher,” but the cited material does not provide the article’s instructions. The available official information therefore establishes Quick Play’s purpose, not the exact sequence of menus or buttons, nor whether it creates a Windows desktop icon or saves shortcuts somewhere else. Don’t assume the world shortcut will appear on your desktop.

Check your platform and edition
The shortcut route depends on which Minecraft edition and device you use. Minecraft’s current overview lists Java Edition for Windows, Mac, and Linux; it describes Mac and Linux as Java-only. Bedrock is listed for Windows 10 and 11 as well as consoles and mobile devices. See Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock Edition guide.
The Launcher/app shortcut advice is for a computer with the Launcher installed. Console and mobile versions may not have a desktop shortcut flow. On Windows, edition matters when you want to reach a specific game or world, but the cited official pages do not establish separate Quick Play setup steps for Java and Bedrock.
