Use Scan Converter for a computer screen, a vMix NDI output for a production feed, NDI Capture for an iPhone screen, or an NDI-capable camera app for phone video. Sender and receiver must be on a network that permits NDI traffic and discovery.
Choose the right NDI sender
“Create an NDI stream” can mean sending a source into vMix or transmitting a source out of vMix. These are separate workflows: an external device or app sends an NDI source for vMix to receive; vMix must have an output enabled when it is the sender.

Prepare the network and receiver
Connect the sender and receiver to a network that allows them to discover one another and carry the stream. vMix describes NDI operation over Gigabit-enabled networks and says network sources appear in its NDI input list. NDI’s Scan Converter Mac product page lists a 1 Gbps local-area network minimum for that tool, not as a universal requirement for every NDI setup. If several devices need wired connections and your existing equipment lacks enough ports, a gigabit Ethernet switch may be useful.
- Start the sender. Open the relevant Scan Converter, vMix output, or mobile app and begin sharing or transmitting.
- Open the source browser in the receiver. In vMix, go to Add Input → NDI / Desktop Capture.
- Select the discovered source. vMix shows NDI sources with preview thumbnails, grouped by computer or device. For other receiving software, open its source browser and select the sender’s advertised stream.
Send a computer screen
Mac: NDI Scan Converter
- Install NDI Tools and launch Scan Converter.
- Open the File menu and select the full desktop or the application window you want to share.
- Set the Mac’s system sound settings to the audio you want captured. Check Scan Converter’s audio mute control if audio should be disabled.
- On the receiving device, select the Scan Converter source in its NDI source list. NDI describes the tool as making the Mac screen available to another NDI-enabled device on the network.
The NDI Mac product page lists Scan Converter version 6.3.2, 6 GB RAM or better, and a 1 Gbps LAN minimum; check the current product page for any changed version or requirements.

Windows: Screen Capture HX
- Launch Screen Capture HX from the NDI Launcher.
- Choose the desktop video and audio to share.
- Set the available capture options to suit the session, including bandwidth, resolution, frame rate, audio source, and pointer capture. KVM is optional.
- In the receiver, choose the advertised HX source.
Screen Capture HX uses GPU acceleration and H.264 or HEVC. The available controls and performance depend on the system and receiver; the cited documentation does not establish a guaranteed bitrate for a particular resolution.
Send a vMix production feed
- In vMix, open Settings → Outputs / NDI.
- Enable the output that should be sent. Output 1 is Program and carries the Master stereo mix.
- Configure other outputs independently if needed. vMix can also export cameras, calls, and audio inputs as NDI sources.
- In the receiving application, find and select the enabled vMix source.
Available output count depends on the vMix edition. Confirm that the edition supports the number of simultaneous outputs you need before building a multi-feed setup.

Use an iPhone screen or phone camera
Share an iPhone screen
NDI Capture is NDI’s iPhone screen-sharing app. Start sharing in the app, then select its source in your receiving software or compatible hardware. The NDI product page lists version 1.8; check the current listing because app versions can change.
Send phone camera video
Use a mobile camera app that explicitly supports NDI output. NDI’s product finder lists Larix Broadcaster for iOS and Android with NDI HX2 output. App features and platform support can change, so verify the current app listing and the receiving device’s HX compatibility before relying on it.

Choose standard NDI or NDI HX
NDI High Bandwidth and NDI HX make different network and encoding trade-offs; neither is automatically best for every setup. NDI describes HX as similar in video quality at a lower bitrate, which can help where bandwidth is limited. Its encoding documentation lists SpeedHQ for High Bandwidth and H.264/H.265 for HX 2–3; HX Screen Capture uses GPU-accelerated H.264 or HEVC.
- Choose a mode supported by both sender and receiver.
- Consider available network capacity, especially on Wi-Fi or a WAN connection.
- Account for device resources: HX capture uses GPU acceleration, and the receiving application must support the codec and HX variant being sent.
- Test the actual combination of devices and network. The cited documentation does not provide a guaranteed bitrate by resolution or establish real-world performance for a particular setup.
Troubleshoot missing, silent, or unstable sources
