Then choose a destination and duration, set a schedule and Roles, and add optional Rules. Getaways and Custom Venues require The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion Pack, which requires the base game; EA lists the expansion’s release date as October 2, 2025. EA’s pack page describes access to digital content.
How to open the Getaway Builder
Choose whichever entry point suits your plan:
- Phone: Social app > Plan a Getaway.
- Computer: Household > Plan a Getaway.
- Calendar: Add Getaway on the left side of the calendar. This route lets you plan ahead and set the event to recur weekly.
Each route opens the same Builder. You can schedule a Getaway for multiple days. While Sims are away, work and school are paused, so they do not lose progress during that time. The calendar may block a Getaway during certain events: a Funeral Event with Life & Death, a Wedding Event with Wedding Stories when using a Base Game Wedding Event, or a High School Graduation Event with High School Years. Choose the destination and timing
In the Builder’s Place step, select a lot from the available locations. Use the world and lot-type filters to narrow the list. You can choose an existing venue type or a Custom Venue; the destination can also be another Sim’s residential home or your own home. EA’s developer diary describes Getaways at locations including bars, gyms, lounges, and residential lots, but does not establish a fee or earnings amount for hosting.
Set the number of nights, start and end times, and—if you want a recurring event—the weekly repeat days. When the Getaway is scheduled at a venue, Sims go there and stay until the event ends. A Custom Venue comes with a preset schedule, which you can change.

Build the schedule
Choose a ready-made schedule or create one from scratch. EA lists starting points such as Fitness Retreat, Outdoor Kids Camp, Romantic Competition, Cooking Competition, Cozy Bed and Breakfast, Creativity Retreat, Senior Living Community, and Teen Popularity Contest. Presets are useful when you want an organized itinerary without arranging every activity and time slot yourself.
A schedule is made of time slots, each with a start time, activity, and Roles. Every time slot must last at least three in-game hours. Activities can cover routines such as eating and sleeping or focused plans such as working out and enjoying the outdoors.

Activities guide Sims rather than forcing them to follow a rigid itinerary. Sims try related interactions, but may do something else if an activity is unavailable or a more pressing want or need takes priority. The developer diary also says that the activities Sims tend to do more often influence the reward they receive when the Getaway ends.
Assign Roles to the group
Every Getaway needs at least one assigned Role, which can be the player’s Sim. A Getaway can include up to 20 Sims. Select a Role from the Role Library, or create and save a custom one for future use.

A Role can have up to five tasks, such as cooking, caring for or mentoring children, or cleaning. You can give it a name and outfit, and set criteria based on age, skill level, gender, romantic orientation, region, traits, occult status, career, or relationship status. Criteria can help define who fits a Role; if you set a total Sim count without naming specific Sims, the game can find Sims that match. A schedule’s individual time slots can also give Roles different activities.
Add Rules only if you want extra challenge
Rules are optional, so a Getaway can have none. You can add up to five Rules, but only one Elimination Rule can be active at a time, and EA Help says one elimination happens per day. Rules can add challenges, eliminations, boosts, or other gameplay changes to selected Roles. For a relaxed camp, retreat, or family visit, leave them out; for a competition or story built around stakes, choose rules that support that idea.

Create a reusable Custom Venue
Use a Custom Venue when you want the lot itself to have a tailored schedule and behavior for visiting Sims, including outside a Getaway. In Build Mode:
- Open Venue Info at the top left.
- Choose Custom Venue from the Lot Type dropdown.
- Select Modify Custom Schedule.
- In the Scheduler, choose a preset or create a Custom Preset by setting the main activity, times, and Roles.
You can save a custom schedule and reuse it at another Custom Venue or in a Getaway. This separates the one-time work of setting up a destination from planning each event that uses it.

Choose a setup that fits your idea
- For a quick start: Pick one of EA’s schedule presets and adjust its destination or timing.
- For a recurring class or club: Schedule from the calendar, set weekly recurrence, and use a saved venue schedule if the destination needs a consistent routine.
- For a specific group: Assign Roles with criteria, or select Sims directly; set a total group size if you want the game to find eligible Sims.
- For a flexible vacation: Use a broad activity plan and few or no Rules, since Sims may follow their own needs and wants.
- For a themed challenge: Match Roles, activities, and optional Rules to the story you want to play.
Adventure Awaits supplies the Getaway system, while some activities depend on owning other packs. EA’s examples include yoga with Spa Day, horseback riding with Horse Ranch, snowboarding with Snowy Escape, and scuba diving with Island Living; these are not base-game activities.
