To cure a disease in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, use a chapel shrine in town or a Wayshrine in the wilderness, cast a Cure Disease spell, or use a Cure Disease potion. Then open Magic > Active Effects and check that the disease is no longer listed.
Choose the cure you can access
The original Oblivion PC manual lists four ways to cure disease. Pick the one that fits where you are and what you have available:
- At a town chapel: Use a chapel shrine.
- In the wilderness: Use a Wayshrine.
- With magic: Cast a Cure Disease spell. Cure Disease is a Restoration effect; the UESP reference describes it as curing common disease (UESP’s Restoration reference).
- From your inventory: Use a Cure Disease potion.
The manual identifies these as alternatives but does not give comparative costs, travel times, or spell costs. Bethesda’s April 22, 2025 beginner’s guide confirms the Remastered game’s identity and platform context, but does not provide separate disease-cure instructions. The cure methods above are documented in the original game manual, not verified here as a Remastered-specific change.
Check whether the disease is gone
- Open the Magic menu.
- Select Active Effects.
- Look for the disease in the effects currently affecting your character. The manual says this tab lists diseases as well as other active effects.
If the disease still appears, try a cure method again and check the tab once more.

Match the remedy to the effect
Not every harmful effect is a disease. The manual treats disease, poison, and paralysis as distinct effects, and a Cure Disease remedy is not a general fix for all of them. Read the effect’s name in Magic > Active Effects and use a remedy that matches it. A disease cure also should not be confused with a Restore effect for damaged attributes.
