After the ceiling-rock attack begins, keep moving and strike between dodges. When updrafts appear, you can hit both ceiling explosives to drop a boulder on the boss—or keep attacking its head until it falls.
Reach Fourth Chorus in Far Fields
- Travel through Far Fields to the Seamstress and obtain the Drifter’s Cloak. If you still need to progress through the region, PC Gamer recommends locating Hokers along the way: PC Gamer’s Fourth Chorus guide.
- Return to the dormant automaton in the region’s large arena to activate the encounter. You can leave the arena rather than being trapped in the fight, according to the Hollow Knight Wiki’s Fourth Chorus entry.
How to handle the sweep and slam
Watch Fourth Chorus’s hands to read its attacks. When an arm sweeps across the arena, jump over it; the Drifter’s Cloak can help extend your airtime. Aim attacks at the head, which the Hollow Knight Wiki identifies as the boss’s only vulnerable area.
If a raised hand begins to glow, move out of the area beneath it before the slam. The impact breaks part of the platform and exposes lava, so check your footing before closing in to attack. Hands generally threaten their own side of the arena; use the clear space on the other side to reposition, then attack the head when the arm has passed.
Survive the falling molten rocks
After a stagger, Fourth Chorus adds an attack that pounds the ceiling and sends molten rocks down. Keep moving to avoid their landing spots, then use the gaps between attacks to get in head strikes. Don’t stay in one place trying to extend a damage window while rocks are falling.

Choose how to finish the fight
When updrafts appear, the arena’s outer platforms have been destroyed. You can continue attacking the head through safe openings, or use the ceiling explosives for a quicker environmental finish. The sources do not establish that either approach is universally easier.
Use the ceiling explosives
- Ride an updraft with the Drifter’s Cloak to reach the ceiling.
- Strike both explosives embedded in the ceiling. Their release drops a boulder onto Fourth Chorus and defeats it.
PC Gamer confirms the updraft-and-explosive sequence. The Hollow Knight Wiki and PC Gamer describe a boulder, while the Silksong Wiki guide describes a stalactite; the practical instruction is the same: reach and hit both ceiling targets when the updrafts are available. The Silksong Wiki Fourth Chorus guide also agrees on targeting the head and obtaining the cloak.

Keep using head attacks
The explosive sequence is optional. If aerial movement makes the ceiling targets awkward to reach, continue evading attacks and hitting the head during safe openings until Fourth Chorus is defeated.
