Disable the Steel Watch, then fight Gortash in his office by drawing him and his allies into the foyer. Before starting combat, carefully approach the office and use ranged attacks to remove traps you can safely target; avoid the two obvious floor traps. This is the clearest route to the Fancy Footwork achievement, which requires defeating Gortash in Wyrm’s Rock without activating any traps.
Choose the office fight, not the coronation
There are two substantially different ways to confront Gortash. Attacking during his coronation starts a difficult Audience Hall fight against Gortash alongside Ravengard, Steel Watchers and Flaming Fists, with traps along the walls. Prepare the office approach
Clear what you can from a safe position
Wait in the staging room before engaging Gortash. From a safe position, use ranged attacks to target and remove as many traps as you can, then check your route before moving forward. The achievement guide specifically warns about two obvious floor traps on the approach: avoid them rather than crossing them. Its advice is to methodically clear a safe fighting area in the office and just beyond the entryway, reducing exposure to grenade, flame and proximity-triggered area effects. Do not treat the boss room as trap-free
The guide says floor traps stop being a concern once you are inside the boss room; that does not mean every device there is harmless or that the achievement cannot be lost. Wyrm’s Rock’s Top Floor includes Deranged Force Curtains, Grenade Impellers, Incineration Casters, Micromodron Force Curtains and Stunner Vents. These traps become active during combat, according to the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress reference.

Draw Gortash into the foyer
- Start combat with one character. Keep the rest of the party positioned outside the office rather than sending everyone through the trapped area.
- Move that character toward the door. The encounter reference describes retreating toward the doorway to draw Gortash and his allies out of the office.
- Fight in the foyer. Keep the battle in the cleared foyer and watch your party’s movement so characters do not path back into the office.
This lure is described as an effective way to keep the fight away from the office traps. It complements, rather than replaces, careful movement on the approach.

Both tactics work best after disabling the Steel Watch, which reduces the difficulty compared with fighting during the coronation. There is no universal party build or guarantee that every difficulty setting and route behaves identically; prioritize cautious movement and keep the combat away from uncleared traps.
