Grotesque Guptauros is weak to both Pierce and Ice. Use Knight’s Jump Thrust if you have it, or attack with Ice skills such as Blizz; avoid entering the fight as a Mage, and guard when the boss uses Charge to prepare for its next physical attack.
Where to find Grotesque Guptauros
Grotesque Guptauros is a level 22 optional boss in Belega Corridor, encountered during the “A Bullish Embargo” side quest. Brigitta offers the quest outside the Lycaon Magic Association, and you need Rank 2 Wisdom to accept it and open the dungeon. If the encounter is too difficult at your current level, you can return to the quest later. Game8’s quest and boss guide covers the unlock and encounter.
Choose Pierce or Ice for damage
The boss is weak to both Pierce and Ice, so use the weakness your party can exploit reliably without neglecting defense and healing. The guides do not establish one damage type as definitively better: Game8 and a GameFAQs walkthrough emphasize Pierce and Knight skills, while Neoseeker’s walkthrough recommends Ice attacks.
- Pierce: Knight’s Jump Thrust deals Pierce damage and lowers the boss’s defense for three turns, according to Game8. The defense reduction can help your party follow up with damage.
- Ice: Blizz and Ice Chunks are reported options for exploiting the Ice weakness. Neoseeker highlights Blizz; Game8 also lists Ice Chunks.
Pick the route that fits the skills you have available. A strong weakness attack is useful, but not if your party cannot keep up with the boss’s physical damage.

Set up your Archetypes and healing
Do not equip a Mage Archetype for this encounter. Game8 and GameFAQs warn that Mage or Healer Archetypes can provoke the boss’s dangerous response, including extra actions or more punishing attacks. This warning concerns the Archetype you enter with; you can still bring healing by inheriting Medi from another Archetype’s skill set or carrying healing items.
Plan for recovery before starting the fight. The boss can hit one character or the whole party hard, so use Medi or items when needed rather than spending every turn on offense. A defensive turn is often safer than allowing the party to remain at low health while chasing damage.

Respond to the boss’s attacks
Grotesque Guptauros uses forceful physical attacks, and its move sequence should not be treated as a guaranteed script. Neoseeker lists Heavy Rush and Powerful Pulverizer as single-target Pierce attacks, Slam Shatter as a party-wide Strike attack, and Charge as increasing the power of its next physical attack. The guide also lists Reckless Charge as removing the boss’s buffs.
- When it uses Charge: Guard against the next physical attack. Neoseeker specifically recommends guarding after Charge to reduce the risk of a devastating hit.
- When party health is low: Heal before returning to offense. Slam Shatter can threaten the whole party, while other attacks can put an individual character in danger.
- When it removes its buffs: Reassess the situation rather than assuming your previous setup remains in effect; Reckless Charge is reported to remove the boss’s buffs.
Keep pressure on the boss with Pierce or Ice when it is safe, but treat guarding and healing as part of the damage plan: surviving its heavy hits gives you more turns to exploit its weaknesses.
