Grapple the points on its armor to expose green pods, then target those weak spots. When it cocoons itself and makes the floor hazardous, grapple between the hanging nodes and shoot the green spots on the cocoon.
Unlock the Arch of Inceptus
Inceptus is the final guardian in the Fadefields Primordial Vault, Arch of Inceptus. You need all three Fadefields Vault Key Fragments, found across The Howl, Idolator’s Noose, and Coastal Bonescape. The entrance is on high ground in Dissected Plateau, southwest of the “Zadra’s Backup Plan” fast travel station. PowerPyx’s walkthrough covers the vault route.

There are three enemy arenas before the boss. Prepare a weapon set for the gauntlet, and use the checkpoints and vending machine between sections to recover. Gamer Guides recommends arriving around level 15 or higher; that is a guide’s readiness suggestion, not a required level. Its Inceptus guide recommends Shock and Incendiary weapons, with Shock particularly useful against the boss’s first shield bar.
How to handle Inceptus’s attacks
Tail stab
When Inceptus charges its tail for a stab, dash sideways rather than retreating in a straight line. The attack may be followed by another strike if it connects.

Tail sweep
Jump over the sweeping tail. If you are not positioned to clear it, move laterally out of its path; the wind-up gives you a chance to react.
Leaping tail slam
When Inceptus jumps toward you and brings its tail down, use a sideways dash to get clear of the impact area.

Homing spores
Inceptus sends spores toward you that explode when they get close. Shoot them while they are still approaching instead of waiting for them to reach the arena floor near you.
Expose the armor pods for damage
Watch for grapple points that appear on Inceptus’s armor. Grapple to them to pull armor away, exposing green pods. Shoot the pods while they are visible: they are the boss’s weak points and offer an opportunity for critical damage. The openings are limited, with only one or two pods exposed at a time, so prioritize them over ordinary body shots when they appear.

Survive the cocoon phase
Inceptus eventually rises to the ceiling inside a cocoon as the arena floor becomes covered in hazardous liquid described by guides as acid or poison. The exact trigger is not consistent across walkthroughs: one guide reports seeing the phase at shield thresholds, while another does not establish whether it is conditional or scripted. Expect the sequence, but do not rely on a particular health or shield threshold to predict its timing.
- Leave the floor. Grapple to a hanging plant or node as soon as the floor becomes dangerous.
- Keep moving between anchors. Change platforms as the hanging points loosen or fall; staying on one for too long can leave you without a safe perch.
- Attack the cocoon. Shoot the green spots near its top to release Inceptus and end the sequence.
What the vault awards—and what is confirmed about drops
Completing the vault awards cash, Eridium, and a glide-pack upgrade that reduces regeneration delay. A guide reports a replay fee from its run, including a level-34 observation, but that is not a fixed current price. Gearbox’s October 30, 2025 update notes specifically confirm: “The Gravitar Class Mod, Reactor, now drops from Inceptus as intended.”

PC Gamer lists Lucky Clover, Husky Friend, Ravenfire, Extra Medium, Electric Avatar, Rewarding Filantropo, Elementalist, and Reactor among possible drops, but the official note above confirms only the Reactor correction—not a complete current loot table. Weekly boss events and bonus loot rates are date-limited: Gearbox listed Inceptus in a Triple Threat Big Encore event on December 18, 2025, alongside a limited Season’s Lootings event that ran through January 8. Those notices do not establish that either event or its rates are active in October 2026. Gearbox’s event update notes provide the historical details.
