Use cover to survive a Shredder’s shrapnel burst, then shoot its thrusters during the pause before it attacks again. Repeat that cycle; don’t stay exposed trying to out-damage it.
How to fight a Shredder
- Get solid cover first. Move behind an obstacle that blocks the Shredder’s close-range shrapnel burst before committing to the fight.
- Wait out the burst. Stay covered while it attacks. Peeking into the shrapnel is a risky trade, especially at close range.
- Use the pause to target its thrusters. When the burst ends, peek out and fire at the propulsion units. They are identified as the Shredder’s weak point by both Beebom’s strategy guide and the community Shredder reference.
- Return to cover as the next attack begins. Keep repeating the cover-and-fire rhythm rather than trying to finish the enemy in one exposed push.
Other enemies or Raiders can make a drawn-out encounter more dangerous. Keep an eye on your surroundings while using cover, and avoid letting the Shredder pin you in a position with no safe retreat.
What gear should you bring?
Choose a weapon with strong ARC armor penetration, as Beebom recommends. The sources do not establish one universally best weapon, a guaranteed kill-shot count, or a reliable damage comparison between specific guns. Pick something you can use accurately during a short peek and for which you have ammunition.
Explosives are another option. The community wiki describes them as effective, particularly around the Shredder’s charge animation. Beebom mentions Heavy Fuze and Light Impact grenades but notes that timing matters. Treat grenades as an opportunity to add damage, not a substitute for taking cover; no verified grenade count guarantees a kill.

Where can Shredders appear?
Embark Studios’ Flashpoint Patch Notes 1.22.0, dated March 31, 2026, say: “Shredders are now added to all maps (only during certain map conditions on Dam Battlegrounds).” The Flashpoint announcement names Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport, and Dam Battlegrounds in the map-condition context. In practical terms, Shredders are not limited to Stella Montis, but their availability on Dam Battlegrounds depends on the active condition.
These locations reflect the cited Flashpoint update; check the latest official patch notes if you need to know the exact live map rotation, since a later update could change availability.

Why there is no reliable HP or shot-count answer
Published secondary sources disagree about Shredder health: Beebom reports 480 HP, while the community wiki lists 385. The official update sources cited here do not establish an HP value, so neither figure is safe to treat as definitive. Without a settled health figure—and consistent weapon damage data—there is no sound basis for promising a fixed number of shots to kill one.
