To fully remove a game or app from an ASUS ROG Ally, use its game launcher or Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Removing a game tile from Armoury Crate SE only removes the library entry; it does not necessarily uninstall the game or recover storage.
The quickest way to uninstall a game or app
This is the safest general method on Windows 11:
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Choose Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the game or app.
- Select its three-dot More button and choose Uninstall.
- Complete the publisher’s uninstall wizard if one appears.
Microsoft documents this as the standard Windows removal method. Menu labels can vary slightly after Windows updates. Microsoft’s uninstall guide has the current Windows procedure.

Close the game and its launcher first. If the Ally’s sticks or buttons do not operate Windows controls correctly, use the touchscreen or switch Armoury Crate’s control mode to Desktop Mode, which lets the built-in controls act like a mouse. ASUS explains this behavior in its ROG Ally FAQ.
Which uninstall method should you use?

Open the launcher that installed the game, open its installed-games library, select the game’s options menu, and choose Uninstall, Remove, or the equivalent command. Launcher names and button locations change, so do not assume that one launcher’s instructions apply to another.

Launcher-managed games may not appear correctly in Windows’ Installed apps list. Using the owning launcher first gives it a chance to remove its install records, downloadable content, and related files. ASUS recommends the game’s launcher or Windows’ uninstall tools for removing games.
Remove only a game from Armoury Crate SE
Use this option when the game is still installed but you only want to declutter Armoury Crate:
- Open Armoury Crate SE.
- Open Game Library.
- Select the game or app.
- Open Game Options.
- Choose the option to remove it from the library.
Removing a tile is not the same as uninstalling the game. It hides the shortcut or library entry, but the program can remain on the internal drive or microSD card. To free space, uninstall through the launcher or Windows instead. ASUS describes this distinction in its ROG Ally support FAQ and Armoury Crate SE documentation.
If the game is not listed in Installed apps
- Try the launcher that installed it.
- Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select the program, and choose Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.
- Check the game’s installation folder for its official uninstaller.
- Restart Windows and try again.
- For a traditional desktop program, use Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter if corrupted uninstall data or registry entries are blocking removal.
Do not assume that every game must appear in Windows’ list. Portable software, launcher-managed installations, and unusual installers can be recorded elsewhere.
If uninstalling fails
- Close the game, launcher, overlays, and related background processes.
- Restart the Ally.
- Retry Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- If the app offers Advanced options, try Repair first.
- Try Reset if Repair does not help and the option is available.
- Use Control Panel for a traditional desktop installation.
- Run Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter.
If the launcher or uninstaller is damaged, reinstalling the same launcher or game can restore the missing uninstall information; then run the official uninstall process. Contact the publisher before considering a Windows reset.

How to check whether storage was actually recovered
After uninstalling, compare free space in Windows before and after removal. Also check the launcher’s install location. If the game was installed on a microSD card, reconnect that card and check its available space rather than only the Ally’s internal drive.
Armoury Crate SE also provides device-storage information in its Settings area. The game may remain visible in Armoury Crate because the library has not refreshed, even after its files are gone.
If it still appears:
- Confirm it is gone from the launcher and Windows or Control Panel.
- Close and reopen Armoury Crate SE.
- Use Manage Library to refresh or remove the stale entry.
A visible Armoury Crate tile does not by itself prove that the game is still installed.

Usually, no. Deleting a folder directly is not a complete uninstall and can leave launcher records, registry entries, configuration files, dependencies, shortcuts, or saved data behind. It can also remove files shared with another installation if the folder is misidentified.
Use the official launcher, Windows uninstall process, Control Panel, or the publisher’s uninstaller first. Manual cleanup is a last resort after you have confirmed which files belong to the removed game. Never delete Windows, ASUS, AMD, Steam, Xbox, or other launcher folders unless you are certain they are unrelated to other software.

If you already deleted the folder, reinstall the relevant game or launcher if necessary, run its official uninstall process, and then remove any stale Armoury Crate library entry. Back up important saves before deleting leftover folders.

Will uninstalling delete your save files?
That depends on the game and launcher. Uninstalling normally targets program files, but saves may be stored locally, in the cloud, or in both locations. Confirm that cloud synchronization has completed and back up important local saves before manually deleting folders. Do not assume that uninstalling either always preserves or always deletes saves.
ROG Ally model and software differences
The core Windows uninstall path applies across Windows-based ROG handhelds, but Armoury Crate menus and controller behavior can differ by model, Windows build, launcher version, and software update. ASUS’s current Armoury Crate SE documentation lists the ROG Ally 2023 (RC71L), ROG Ally X 2024 (RC72LA), ROG Xbox Ally 2025 (RC73YA), and ROG Xbox Ally X 2025 (RC73XA), with the documented feature set requiring Armoury Crate SE version 2.1.10.0 or later. Check the labels on your device rather than assuming every ROG handheld has identical menus.
Uninstalling Armoury Crate itself is a separate decision. ASUS warns that Armoury Crate provides desktop-control functionality; removing it can stop the Ally’s sticks and buttons from working as a mouse in Desktop Mode until Armoury Crate is installed again.
