You can delete God of War Ragnarök save data through your platform’s storage settings or, on Windows PC, by removing the game’s save files. Save data is managed separately from the installed game, so deleting the application alone will not reset your progress. Back up anything you may want to keep before deleting it.
Delete a save on PS5
- Close God of War Ragnarök.
- Open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
- Choose Saved Data (PS5) for the PS5 edition, or Saved Data (PS4) if you are playing the PS4 edition on your PS5.
- Select Upload or Delete from Console Storage, choose God of War Ragnarök, then use the deletion controls shown for the saved-data item.
These are PlayStation’s documented steps for managing saved data on PS5. They let you manage the game’s saved-data item, but PlayStation’s guide does not confirm that every version of the game lets you delete a single manual or autosave slot. Delete a save on PS4
PlayStation’s cited guidance explains how to manage saved data and select a game to view related files when copying PS4 saves to USB, but it does not provide a complete current deletion walkthrough specific to PS4. Replace [YOUR USER] with your Windows account name. The save is inside a folder named with a string unique to your user. The studio support representative banshee_SMS warned in a Steam support post on September 19, 2024: “If you permanently delete your save data file your progress will be lost. Any tampering with the save data file may result in lost progression or other issues.” Santa Monica Studio’s save-location post
Back up, then remove the intended files
- Close the game and make a copy of the
God of Warsave folder somewhere safe. - Check Steam Cloud for synchronization status or a pending conflict before changing local files.
- Delete only the save data you intend to remove. Avoid editing or renaming save files; the studio warns that tampering can cause progression issues.
- When you next start the game, read any Steam Cloud prompt carefully before choosing a local or cloud copy.
Check cloud saves before deleting or relaunching
On PlayStation, downloaded-game saves are stored in console storage. PlayStation Plus members can upload saves to cloud storage and download them to a device; its guide distinguishes PS4 and PS5 saved-data categories. Steam Cloud can store game saves. Steam warns that if local and cloud files change without synchronizing, it may show a conflict. Choosing the wrong copy can lose data or progress, and Steam says lost saves are unlikely to be recoverable through Steam Support. If your goal is to free space by uninstalling God of War Ragnarök, use the console or PC’s game/app storage controls. If your goal is to reset progress or clear saved data, use the saved-data controls described above.
