The method depends on the region where the account is registered: Sony’s US terms direct account holders to PlayStation Support, while Sony’s Canadian support page documents a closure option in the PlayStation App. Before you submit a request, review the loss of account data, purchases, wallet funds, subscriptions and any child accounts linked to a family manager account.
Choose the closure route for your account region
PlayStation Network account procedures can differ by region. Use the official support instructions for the country or region where your account is registered; do not assume that an option shown on a Canadian support page is available everywhere.
United States: contact PlayStation Support
Sony’s US Terms of Service say to request account termination by contacting PlayStation Support and identify live chat as the best route. Have your sign-in ID (the email address on the account), online ID and account security information ready. See Sony’s US Terms of Service.
Canada: use the PlayStation App
- Sign in to the PlayStation App.
- Open Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Close Your Account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Sony’s Canadian support page documents the same general route in the PlayStation Family App: open Settings at the bottom of the app’s home screen, then follow the instructions to close the account. See Sony’s Canadian account-closure instructions. If the option is missing, or you are in another region, use the current PlayStation Support page for your account region.

Check what closure means before you request it
Closing the account is not just removing a profile from a console or uninstalling an app. Sony says closure permanently deletes associated account data and content and prevents you from signing in with that account. Under the US terms, termination is irreversible, and service-linked rankings, scores, trophies, virtual items, virtual currency, subscriptions and other information saved on or requiring PlayStation services will not be retained or accessible after termination.
- Purchased content: Closing the account may remove access to content bought through it. Check the consequences for the account’s region before proceeding.
- Wallet funds and refunds: Sony’s US terms say termination generally does not result in refunds for subscriptions, virtual items, prepaid products or services, in-game value, or unused wallet balance, except where required by law or expressly provided in the agreement. The current US PSN terms also say wallet funds are generally non-refundable and non-transferable except where the law requires.
- Subscriptions: Review active subscriptions and any content or benefits tied to them before submitting the request. The US terms include subscriptions among the service-linked items that will not be accessible after termination.
- Family manager accounts: If this account manages a family, child accounts may also close. Sony’s Canadian support page says all child accounts in the family close; the US terms say termination generally ends child accounts, although Sony may permit some to remain open in some cases.
These details describe Sony’s Canadian support guidance and US terms, not a single worldwide rule. Check the terms and support instructions that apply to the account’s region, including any local legal protections.

Can you cancel a closure request?
Sony’s Canadian support page says an account enters a 30-day freeze period starting when Sony receives the closure request. During that period, the account holder can contact PlayStation Support to cancel closure and reopen the account. The US terms reviewed call termination irreversible and do not state this 30-day window, so do not rely on it unless Sony confirms it applies to your account’s region.

Contact PlayStation Support for the region where the account is registered if you cannot sign in, cannot find the app’s closure option, or need instructions for a different country. For US accounts, Sony’s terms direct users to Support for termination requests; for other regions, follow that region’s current support page rather than assuming the US or Canadian process applies.
