To disable Roblox Experience chat for your account, go to Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Communication → Experience chat and choose the available option to limit or turn it off. To switch chat off only for the current game session, open Experience Controls while playing and toggle Chat off. A linked parent can manage a child’s setting separately through Parental Controls.
Choose the right chat setting
Roblox has different controls for account settings, a child’s account, and a single play session. The account and parent settings manage Experience chat more generally; the in-experience toggle is a quick session control. If you only want to stop one person from contacting you, mute or block that user instead.

Turn off Experience chat for your account
- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy & content restrictions.
- Open Communication.
- Select Experience chat and choose an available option to limit or turn off chat.
Roblox’s available communication settings can depend on age-check status, age, consent requirements, and region. Roblox says users must complete an age check before they can turn on chat in settings; some age groups need parental consent to enable it. Manage a child’s Experience chat
- Sign in to the linked parent account.
- Open Settings → Parental Controls.
- Under Settings You Manage, open Communication.
- Select Experience chat and adjust the available setting.
The parental Communication area also includes Game chat and Game direct chat. Roblox notes that these parental settings “do not apply to chat features developed independently by developers,” so they may not control every chat system built into an experience. See Parental Controls Overview.

Turn chat off for the current game session
- While in an experience, open Experience Controls.
- Switch Chat off.
Roblox describes this control as “Chat: Toggles in-experience Chat (On/Off).” It is distinct from the account communication setting and is the quick option when you want to silence chat while playing. See Experience Controls.

To address one person rather than disable chat for everyone, use Roblox’s mute or block controls. You can also report a message from the conversation if it violates Roblox’s chat policies. Details are in Experience Chat and Safety Features: Chat, Privacy & Filtering.
