To destroy a Void Fragment in The First Descendant, use a Descendant Skill with the same Attribute as the Fragment. Firearm attacks and skills with a different Attribute will not damage it. Check the Fragment’s Attribute on the World Map before choosing your Descendant.
How to destroy a Void Fragment
- Check the Fragment’s Attribute. Open the World Map, select the zone, and hover over the Void Fragment icon. Its tooltip shows the Attribute and lets you inspect mission details and rewards, according to Nexon’s Void Fragment guide.
- Choose a matching Descendant. Check the character’s Skill Description and make sure its Attribute matches the Fragment. A nonmatching skill cannot damage the Fragment; firearms cannot damage it either, as Nexon’s technical-test guide explains.
- Use the matching skill on the Fragment. This starts or advances the mission. Enemies spawn during the encounter, and you may need to keep using matching-Attribute skills on the Fragment to destroy it. Nexon confirms that fully destroying it earns rewards but does not specify one fixed number of phases or enemy waves for every Fragment.
Joining a Fragment mission already in progress
You can join another player’s active mission by hitting the Fragment or one of its spawned monsters with a skill that matches the Fragment’s Attribute. Nexon says additional rewards require participation with a same-Attribute Descendant; its older technical-test guide describes the alternative as receiving basic rewards without conditional rewards. Check the current mission details for the reward information that applies to your run.
Why your weapon is not damaging it
That is expected: ordinary firearm attacks do not damage Void Fragments. Switch to a matching-Attribute Descendant Skill instead. If the skill still does no damage, verify the Fragment’s Attribute in the World Map tooltip and the Attribute listed in the Skill Description; the two must match.
Void Fragments, Void Shards, and Reactors now
Do not destroy Fragments expecting to earn Void Shards or collect shards to activate a Void Fusion Reactor. In its April 17, 2025 Update 1.2.14, Nexon said Reactors no longer require Void Shards and that shards could no longer be acquired from Void Fragments, Special Operations, or quests. The update also removed the Void Fragment guide message.

Older instructions may describe a shard-farming loop because that was once part of the game. Nexon’s August 29, 2024 Season 1 announcement and February 2024 developer note document earlier changes and the original matching-Attribute shard design. Treat those shard directions as historical, not as current Reactor requirements.
