To turn off adaptive triggers on a PS5, open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General), select Trigger Effect Intensity, then choose Off. Sony uses “Trigger Effect Intensity” for the setting that controls the resistance effect on a DualSense controller.
Turn off trigger effects on your PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Accessories.
- Select Controller (General).
- Choose Trigger Effect Intensity, then select Off.
This is Sony’s console setting for adjusting the DualSense trigger effect. The effect is only used in games that support it, so some games may not make the triggers feel different even when the setting is enabled. Sony’s PS5 controller settings guide gives the same path and setting name.
What turning the setting off changes
Adaptive triggers add resistance to the controller’s L2 and R2 triggers in supported games. Setting Trigger Effect Intensity to Off disables that effect at the PS5 controller-settings level. It does not turn off vibration: Sony lists vibration intensity and trigger-effect intensity as separate controls.
Game support matters. Sony notes that adaptive triggers are available when supported by the game, and that some controller features may not be available on certain platforms or devices. This path is for the PS5 console; do not assume a PC, mobile device, or Remote Play setup will expose the same control or behave identically. Safety note from Sony
Sony’s DualSense instruction manual advises: “Do not use the vibration or trigger effect features if you have any ailment or injury to the bones, joints, or muscles of your arms or hands.” It further says that someone with such an ailment or injury should not play titles using those features unless the functions are set to Off. This is the manufacturer’s guidance in its DualSense Wireless Controller instruction manual, not independent medical advice.
