To message one player inside a Roblox experience, open the experience chat and type /w username your message, replacing username with that player’s Roblox username. Press Enter or Return to send. The experience must have chat enabled, and your account must be eligible to use it.
Send a Direct chat message in an experience

Roblox identifies /w as the Direct chat command. Its Experience Chat guidance says that after an age check, users can communicate with users in similar age groups in the same server or through Direct chat using /w.
Check whether your account can use Direct chat
Roblox currently requires an age check before users can enable chat features. Under Roblox’s general chat guidance, users under 16 need parental consent to enable Direct chat. Available features and age groups can vary by account, region, and product.

For a child’s account, a parent or caregiver can check: Settings → Parental Controls → Settings You Manage → Communication → Experience chat.
What controls appear can depend on the account and region. Roblox distinguishes in-game Game direct chat, which uses /w in a game server, from Friends chat.

Direct chat in a game is different from messaging friends
Here, “Direct chat” means a message to a particular player in the same experience, sent with /w. Experience chat is for people in that experience and ends when you leave it. Messaging friends outside games uses Roblox’s separate Chat/Friends interface and has its own access rules; Roblox says users under 9 cannot send direct messages or chat with friends outside games.

On a touch device, tap the chat icon instead of using a keyboard shortcut.

If chat is absent, check whether the experience enables it, whether the account has completed an age check, and whether parental consent or communication settings apply. Regional restrictions may also affect access.
Use Roblox’s safety controls
Roblox says eligible platform chat is filtered to block inappropriate content, personal information, and instructions to move conversations off-platform. Messages containing profanity may be automatically rephrased, and players aged 12 and younger receive additional filtering intended to prevent personal information from being posted.
