Try the reported rescue method
- Search a bandit camp for a captive survivor. The 2018 Steam Community discussion describes finding an NPC at a bandit camp; it does not establish a fixed location or spawn rule.
- Clear the bandits. The discussion’s advice is to kill the bandits before attempting the rescue.
- Interact with the survivor to rescue them. The post reports that the NPC can then join your camp. It gives Kate as an example, but does not document a current interaction prompt or exact control.
- Check the NPC and camp controls afterward. The same discussion says Kate could be assigned crafting work. It does not establish that every survivor has the same jobs or that this feature behaves identically in later builds.
If you cannot find or recruit a survivor
- Do not assume a particular camp always contains a survivor; current fixed locations and spawn rules are not established by the accessible official information.
- If clearing a camp does not reveal an NPC, or the interaction differs, the old player post may not match your build. The Steam page confirms recruitment generally, but not the exact current sequence.
- Remember that the game is still listed as Early Access on Steam, and its developer has said NPC-control mechanics may change.
