To disable structure-placement collision on a dedicated ARK server, add the following setting to Game.ini under the ShooterGameMode section, save the file, and restart the server:
Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted ARK: Survival Evolved servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
[/script/shootergame/shootergamemode]
bDisableStructurePlacementCollision=true
The setting changes the default from False to True, allowing structures to clip into terrain and other environmental obstacles. Use the in-game Advanced setting instead if you are playing single-player or Host/Local.

Dedicated-server setup
Dedicated ARK servers read this option from Game.ini. The section header identifies the ShooterGameMode configuration block; the Boolean line beneath it enables permissive placement.
- Stop the server. Editing while it is offline avoids the server overwriting your change when it shuts down.
- Open the correct
Game.inifile. The official ARK configuration reference lists these paths:
| Server operating system | Path to Game.ini |
|---|---|
| Linux | ShooterGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.ini |
| Windows | ShooterGameSavedConfigWindowsServerGame.ini |
- Find the ShooterGameMode section. It begins with
[/script/shootergame/shootergamemode]. If that header is already present, do not create a second copy; add the setting within the existing section. - Add the Boolean line:
bDisableStructurePlacementCollision=true
- Save the file as plain text, keeping the
.iniextension. - Start or restart the server. A file edit has no effect on a running instance until the configuration is loaded again.
Configuration panels supplied by managed hosts generally expose a file editor for Game.ini and a start, stop, or restart control. The labels vary, but the required sequence is the same: edit the ShooterGameMode section, save, then restart.

Exact syntax and placement
Use the section header exactly
ARK uses an option=value format. The key is case-sensitive in practice, so copy it exactly as shown. Do not wrap the key or value in quotation marks, add spaces around the equals sign, or place the line under an unrelated section.
[/script/shootergame/shootergamemode]
bDisableStructurePlacementCollision=true
If your file already contains other ShooterGameMode options, put this line on its own line in that same block. If the block is absent, add the header followed by the Boolean line. A duplicate header can make troubleshooting harder, so consolidate the setting into one ShooterGameMode section.

Check the file you actually edit
Servers can contain several configuration files with similar names. This option belongs in Game.ini, not GameUserSettings.ini. On a hosted server, use the panel’s file browser to confirm that you are editing the active server instance rather than a template, backup, or inactive installation.
What disabling collision changes
The official configuration reference lists bDisableStructurePlacementCollision with a default of False. Setting it to True permits structures to clip into terrain. In practical terms, placement becomes more forgiving in uneven or crowded locations where normal collision would prevent a foundation, wall, roof, or other piece from being positioned.

- Structures can overlap terrain and environmental obstacles that would normally block placement.
- Builds can fit into locations that are otherwise difficult to use because of rocks, slopes, or other map geometry.
- Normal collision rules no longer provide the same spacing and separation safeguards.
- Players may create overlaps that a server owner considers unattractive, exploitable, or inconsistent with the intended building rules.
The setting does not redesign the building system or guarantee that every piece can be placed everywhere. It removes the structure-placement collision restriction described by the option; other placement checks can still apply.
Single-player and Host/Local play
If you are not running a dedicated server, you usually do not need to edit an .ini file. In ARK’s single-player or Host/Local game, open the in-game Advanced settings and enable Disable Structure Placement Collision.

The checkbox is the local equivalent of the dedicated-server Boolean. Apply it before loading or hosting the session, then return to the game and test a placement that previously failed. Dedicated-server administrators should still use Game.ini; changing a local checkbox does not alter a remote server’s configuration.
Verifying that the change loaded
After the restart, test a structure location where collision previously prevented placement. If the setting loaded, the piece should be able to occupy terrain or an environmental obstruction that blocked it under the default rules.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. Recommended Free Tools
- Confirm the server was fully stopped before the edit or fully restarted after it.
- Reopen
Game.iniand verify that the saved file still contains the ShooterGameMode header and the Boolean line. - Check that the value is
true, notTrue `,1, or another variation. - Make sure the file name is exactly
Game.ini, rather thanGame.ini.txt. - Ensure you edited the active LinuxServer or WindowsServer path for this installation.
- Reconnect to the server after the restart so your client is testing the newly loaded session.
Why bDisableStructurePlacementCollision may appear not to work
| Symptom | Likely cause | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| Placement is unchanged after editing | The server was not restarted, or the file was saved while the instance was still running and later overwritten. | Stop the server, save the line, then start it again. Recheck the file after startup. |
| The option is present but has no effect | The line is in GameUserSettings.ini or another section. |
Move it to Game.ini under [/script/shootergame/shootergamemode]. |
| Only some settings seem to load | A duplicate section, misspelled header, or malformed line prevents the intended block from being read as expected. | Keep one correctly spelled ShooterGameMode header and one plain option=value line. |
| The setting disappears after a restart | The host panel restored a template or the server wrote its previous configuration during shutdown. | Stop the instance first, edit the active file, save it through the panel, and verify the contents before starting. |
| A local game still blocks placement | You are playing single-player or Host/Local without enabling its Advanced checkbox. | Turn on Disable Structure Placement Collision in the in-game Advanced settings. |
Managing the change on a shared server
Disabling collision affects every player who builds on that server. Before enabling it, decide whether unrestricted clipping fits the server’s rules. If you want conventional building limits, leave the option at its default of False. If you enable it for a building project or event, tell players that structures may overlap terrain and that existing builds can look different from those made under normal collision.
Back up before editing
Make a copy of Game.ini before changing it. A backup gives you a direct rollback if the panel overwrites the file or if another configuration edit introduces a formatting problem. To revert the collision change, remove the Boolean line or change its value back to false, save, and restart the server again.
Quick Recap
Use a controlled rollout
- Record the current value, including whether the line was absent or set to
false. - Back up the active
Game.ini. - Apply the single-line change and restart.
- Test with a structure placement that demonstrates the collision restriction.
- Tell players what has changed before they alter permanent bases.
