The fastest way to find independent games on Xbox is to start with the Indie Selects hub, then use ID@Xbox for broader browsing and watch the Store for temporary demo collections. Indie Selects is a player-facing curation service; ID@Xbox is Xbox’s program for helping independent developers bring games to Xbox and self-publish. Demo festivals add a way to try selected upcoming games, but their dates, regions and available builds are limited.
Start with Indie Selects for a curated shortlist
Open Xbox’s live Indie Selects page when you want recommendations without searching the entire Store. Xbox describes this as a dedicated destination for curated independent games. The page is intended to stay current: its team publishes weekly collections, rotates themed spotlights and presents monthly staff selections.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That changing format matters. A title shown today may leave the featured area when the next collection arrives, so treat the hub as a live directory rather than a permanent ranking. Bookmark the page or return to it whenever you are ready to choose something new. The same destination is available through the Xbox Store, although exact labels and placement can change with dashboard updates and region.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat the weekly and monthly labels mean
- Weekly collections: a regularly refreshed group selected for discovery. The games and theme can change from one week to the next.
- Themed spotlights: temporary collections organized around a particular idea, genre or event. They are not a promise that every game in the wider independent catalog fits that theme.
- Monthly selections: staff picks that provide editorial context around a group of games. A monthly list is a snapshot, not an exhaustive list of all independent releases.
Use the cover art and descriptions as a first filter, then open each game’s product page to check its platform, price, accessibility information, ratings, language support and current availability. Those details belong to the individual listing and can change independently of the collection.

Understand ID@Xbox before you browse it
ID@Xbox and Indie Selects are related, but they answer different questions. ID@Xbox is Xbox’s program for helping independent developers bring games directly to players and self-publish on Xbox platforms. Its public page displays a selection of associated games for browsing.
Indie Selects is the editorial layer made for players looking for a quick, curated set of recommendations. ID@Xbox is the broader developer and publishing pathway. Seeing a game on the ID@Xbox page does not establish that it will appear in Indie Selects, and the games displayed there should not be treated as a complete catalog of every ID@Xbox release.
Choose the program that matches your goal
| Route | Best for | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Indie Selects | Fast, curated recommendations | Weekly themes and featured games rotate; the current page is the reliable reference. |
| ID@Xbox | Browsing independent-developer games more broadly | The page shows a selection, not proof of a complete catalog or a guarantee of inclusion in Indie Selects. |
| Demo Fest collections | Trying a game before deciding whether to follow or buy it | Events have fixed date windows; demos can be unfinished and may be limited by country. |
Find the current Indie Selects collection on Xbox
Xbox Wire’s 2024 launch announcement documented the console route as Store, then Games. Dashboard layouts evolve, so the evergreen method is to use the live Indie Selects page and then follow the Store link or search for “Indie Selects” on your device.
- Open the Microsoft Store on Xbox. From the dashboard, select the Store. If your layout uses a different landing screen, open the Store app from My games & apps or the pinned app area.
- Enter the Games area. The documented path is Store > Games. Look for an Indie Selects tile, collection or search result.
- Open the collection, not just an individual listing. The collection page shows the current editorial group and any active themed spotlight.
- Filter the shortlist on each product page. Check whether the game runs on your Xbox generation or Xbox on PC, whether it is included with a subscription, its purchase price and its install size before committing.
- Save candidates using your normal Xbox list or wishlist tools. A saved item lets you find the product page again after the featured collection rotates.
The exact sequence can differ on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, mobile apps and in different countries. If a collection tile is absent, use the direct Xbox.com Indie Selects page; do not assume that a missing tile means the program or game has ended.
Use Xbox Wire roundups to narrow a large list
The Store collection tells you what is currently featured. Xbox Wire’s editorial articles explain why staff selected a group and provide a second way to decide what deserves your time. The launch article, “ID@Xbox Presents: Indie Selects”, introduced the player-facing initiative and its purpose. Glenn Gregory, ID@Xbox Marketing Manager, summarized that purpose as: “we love games made by independent developers, and we want more people to discover them, buy them, and play them!”

For a dated example of the cadence and editorial approach, read “Indie Selects for June 2026”. Such an article is useful when you want descriptions, staff reasoning or a manageable starting list rather than a page of tiles. It is not a substitute for the live Store hub: an article can remain online after its collection has changed, a game has left a spotlight or regional availability has shifted.
A practical two-layer workflow
- Scan the current hub first. Note games whose genre, length or presentation fits what you want to play now.
- Read the matching editorial roundup. Use the staff explanation to distinguish a game that suits your preferences from one that is merely prominent.
- Return to the product page. Confirm the current release state, platform, price, language and accessibility details there.
- Keep the rest as a watchlist. Independent releases can arrive at different times by platform or country, so a promising article mention may require a later check.
Watch for Demo Fest and other temporary collections
When Xbox runs a demo event, the Store can provide a low-commitment way to sample independent games. The June 2026 Indie Selects Demo Fest is a clear example: it offered more than 30 demos across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox on PC from June 4 through June 30, 2026. That event has ended; the figure is historical, not a permanent count or a current catalog.
To catch a future event, check the Indie Selects hub, the Store’s Games collections and Xbox Wire announcements around major seasonal showcases. Open the event collection during its published window and install demos individually. A demo may disappear when the event ends, so do not postpone a trial you specifically want to play.
Read the caveat on every demo
Xbox warned for the June 2026 event: “these demos are early looks at games still in development, so the final versions may differ at launch, including availability by country as developers continue polishing their work.” In practical terms:
- A demo can have different performance, content, interface or save behavior from the final release.
- An unfinished build is not evidence that the finished game will launch on the same date or with the same feature set.
- A demo available in one country may not appear in another, and a game’s final release can have different regional availability.
- Some demos remain playable only during the event or may be removed afterward at the developer’s request.
Use a demo to answer a focused question—whether the controls feel right, whether the art direction appeals to you or whether the opening loop is engaging—not as a definitive review of the final product.

Build a repeatable discovery routine
Independent games are easier to find when you separate discovery from buying. The following routine works whether you have ten minutes or an evening to explore.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Ten-minute scan
- Open the current Indie Selects hub and skim the weekly and themed rows.
- Open only the product pages that match your preferred genre, playtime or multiplayer needs.
- Save two or three candidates instead of purchasing immediately.
- Check whether any candidate has a currently available demo or trial.
Deeper weekend session
- Read the relevant Xbox Wire monthly roundup for context.
- Compare the product pages for platform support, current price, install size and accessibility options.
- Play a demo when one exists, taking notes on controls, performance and the first major gameplay loop.
- Choose one game to buy or install and leave the others saved for a later check.
This process prevents a rotating feature tile from becoming an accidental purchase decision. It also gives you a record of games that caught your attention even after the editorial collection changes.
Know how Game Pass status affects the collection
Do not assume that every Indie Selects recommendation is outside Game Pass, or that every featured game is included with it. Xbox’s current Indie Selects FAQ says the weekly collection focuses on games outside Game Pass, while themed collections may sometimes include Game Pass titles. Verify the current subscription badge on the individual product page before installing or buying.
A Game Pass listing can also change when a catalog agreement ends, and a game’s inclusion can vary by plan and region. Treat the product page’s current entitlement information as authoritative rather than relying on an older roundup or a screenshot.
Search beyond the featured rows without losing the indie focus
If the current collection does not match your taste, move to the ID@Xbox page and browse its displayed games. Use the Store’s genre, accessibility, multiplayer and platform filters where they are available, then open each result’s product page. This gives you a wider funnel while preserving a clear independent-development starting point.

Search by the type of experience you want—short narrative game, local co-op, strategy, atmospheric exploration or a particular accessibility feature—rather than by the word “indie” alone. The label covers very different budgets, teams and genres. A small studio can publish a large, content-rich game, while a tiny team can make a brief experimental title; neither description predicts quality or length on its own.

Assuming a named lineup is permanent
Weekly collections, monthly selections and themed spotlights rotate. Save a game to your list and open its product page if you want to revisit it; do not expect the same tile to remain on the hub.
Treating ID@Xbox as a complete catalog
The public ID@Xbox page displays a range of associated games. It is useful for discovery but does not establish that every eligible game is shown there.
Confusing an editorial article with current store status
Roundups explain a selection at publication time. Confirm today’s price, platform, subscription status and regional availability on the live product page.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.

The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Judging the final game from an early build
In-development demos can change substantially. Note what the build demonstrates, but leave room for differences at launch.
Assuming every device has the same menu
Xbox documents Store > Games for the dashboard route, but console generations, Xbox on PC, mobile apps and regions can present different navigation. Use the live web hub when the on-device path does not match.
A decision guide for your next Xbox session
- You want a quick recommendation: open Indie Selects and start with the current weekly collection.
- You want more breadth: browse the games displayed on ID@Xbox, then verify each listing individually.
- You want to test before spending: look for an active demo collection or a demo on the game’s product page.
- You want context about why a game was chosen: read the matching Xbox Wire roundup, then return to the live Store listing.
- You cannot find a title mentioned in an article: search the Store directly and check your region; the feature may have rotated or the listing may not be available where you are.
What to check before installing or buying
- Is the listing for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC or more than one platform?
- Is the game currently purchasable, downloadable through your subscription or unavailable in your country?
- Does the product page list the multiplayer mode, controller support and accessibility features you need?
- If you are using a demo, does its description identify it as an early or in-development build?
- Will you have enough storage space, and do you want to keep the game installed after trying it?
These checks are deliberately product-specific. A collection can point you toward a game, but only the current listing can tell you what your account and device can use now.
Why this combination works for smaller studios
Independent games compete for attention with releases from publishers of every size. A curated hub reduces the initial search burden, while ID@Xbox provides a route to browse beyond the games an editor selected. Demo events lower the risk of trying something unfamiliar, and editorial roundups add enough explanation to make a shortlist meaningful rather than random.
The roles remain distinct: ID@Xbox helps developers reach Xbox players and self-publish; Indie Selects helps players discover a changing selection; demos provide temporary hands-on access when an event is running. Using all three in that order gives you a practical funnel from discovery to a confident install or purchase without assuming that any list is complete or permanent.
