1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe easiest way to install BONELAB mods is through the game’s built-in mod.io browser: link BONELAB to a free mod.io account, subscribe to a mod, and download your subscriptions from the in-game Mods menu. For manual installation, use the Android download on a standalone Quest 2 and the Windows download for SteamVR or Quest Link PCVR.
This distinction is important: a Windows mod will not work in the standalone Quest version, and an Android package is not the correct file for the Windows PC copy of BONELAB.

Before installing BONELAB mods
- Install BONELAB and update it on the device or PC where you intend to play.
- Create or sign in to a free mod.io account in a browser.
- Identify your BONELAB version:
- Standalone Meta Quest 2: choose Android or Quest-compatible files.
- SteamVR or Meta Quest Link PCVR: choose Windows or PC-compatible files.
- Begin with one or two small mods. Large collections can occupy several gigabytes, and collections may include unavailable, outdated, or incompatible entries.
The official BONELAB mod repository uses mod.io and contains separate Windows and Android targets. The platform shown on an individual mod page should always take priority over a generic installation guide.
Method 1: Install mods through BONELAB’s in-game mod.io browser
This is the recommended method for most BONELAB SDK mods, including avatars, maps, spawnables, and weapons. It avoids manually locating the game’s data folder and downloads content for the platform on which BONELAB is running.

Link BONELAB to mod.io
- Launch BONELAB and reach the main menu or hub.
- Open Mods.
- Open the Downloads or mod.io section. The exact label can vary by game build.
- Select Mod.io Login. BONELAB should display a five-digit linking code.
- On a phone, computer, or headset browser, sign in to the same mod.io account you want to use.
- Open mod.io/connect and enter the five-digit code shown in BONELAB.
Use the same account in the browser and in BONELAB. If you authorize a different mod.io account, your subscriptions may not appear in the game.
Subscribe to and download a mod
- Open the BONELAB page on mod.io.
- Find a mod and check its platform, version, requirements, and release notes.
- Subscribe to the mod.
- Return to BONELAB.
- Open the mod.io downloads area and select Download All, or the equivalent control shown by your installed build.
- Wait for the download to finish, then open the relevant in-game menu.
Where the mod appears depends on its type:
- Avatars: avatar selection or avatar-related menus.
- Maps and levels: level selection, hub locations, or the game’s external-level interface.
- Spawnables and weapons: the spawn gun or another spawning interface.
If a mod page offers separate Android and Windows downloads, the in-game workflow should select content associated with the platform running BONELAB. Check the listing rather than assuming that every mod supports both platforms.
Method 2: Manually install mods on a standalone Quest 2
Use manual installation when a mod does not download correctly through BONELAB or when you want to manage the files yourself. This method applies to the standalone Android version of BONELAB, not to the PC version being streamed through Quest Link.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Using a Windows computer
- Download the mod from the BONELAB section of mod.io or the creator’s clearly identified release page.
- Choose the Android file. Do not use the Windows file for standalone Quest 2.
- Extract the ZIP archive on the computer.
- Check the extracted contents. You generally need to copy the mod’s folder, not the ZIP file and not an unnecessary extra parent folder.
- Connect the Quest 2 to the computer with a USB data cable.
- Put on the headset and approve the file-access prompt if Quest displays one.
- In Windows File Explorer, open the Quest’s internal shared storage.
- Navigate to:
Android/data/com.StressLevelZero.BONELAB/files/Mods
Copy the extracted mod folder into Mods. If the folder is not present, launch BONELAB once, close it, and check again. You can create a folder named Mods inside the BONELAB user-data directory if necessary.

- Compatible with Meta Quest 3/Quest 3s: Still using BOBOVR’s innovative power swap design, the new battery architecture separates the discharge module from the battery pack, reducing battery pack heat. It also improves the discharge efficiency by 6% compared to the old model, and adds low-battery sound reminders and accurate battery levels;
- Brand new B100 battery system: Compared with B2, while the volume remains unchanged, the capacity is increased from 5200mah to 10000mah, the battery capacity is increased by 92%, and the weight is only increased by 28%. Thanks to the higher output efficiency, the available capacity is B2 2 times;
- S3 Pro has a built-in Head Air Cooling System: which uses silent technology to keep the head and face cool and comfortable even when Quest3/3S is worn for a long time, and supports 100-level flexible wind speed adjustment (Press the roller to open);
- The structure of the back of the head is optimized,Flattened back structure enhances comfort during seated or reclined use, with adjustable height and removable overhead support.
- Tip: S3 Pro Strap is only Compatible with Meta Quest 3/Quest 3s; The air conditioning system requires B100 to work(Not compatible with B2 battery pack) ; Battery Configuration: Two 5000mAh lithium cells in series (7.3V total), – equivalent to a single 10000mAh/3.65V battery pack.
For this manual process, a Meta Quest 2 Link Cable or another USB-C data cable is optional but useful. A charging-only cable may power the headset without allowing Windows to transfer files.
- Safely disconnect the headset.
- Launch or restart BONELAB.
- Find the mod through the appropriate avatar, level, spawnable, weapon, or external-mod interface.
Correct Quest 2 folder structure
The result should resemble this:
Android/data/com.StressLevelZero.BONELAB/files/Mods/YourModFolder/...
Common mistakes include leaving the archive here:
Android/data/com.StressLevelZero.BONELAB/files/Mods/YourMod.zip
or creating an extra level of nesting:
Android/data/com.StressLevelZero.BONELAB/files/Mods/YourMod/YourMod/...
If the mod is not visible, inspect the extracted folder and copy the folder that contains the mod’s actual files into Mods.
Installing without a computer
The in-game mod.io browser is the cleanest no-computer option when it works. SideQuest also offers a Quest app and a desktop app with headset file-management features, but it is a general Quest sideloading and file-management tool—not BONELAB’s official mod repository and not a guarantee that a particular mod is compatible.
Quest file-access behavior and third-party file-manager capabilities can change with Meta software updates. For that reason, do not rely on a particular third-party file-manager workflow as a universal solution. Use BONELAB’s in-game mod.io integration first whenever possible.
Method 3: Manually install BONELAB mods on Windows PCVR
This method applies to both SteamVR PCVR and BONELAB launched on a Windows PC through Meta Quest Link. Even if the headset is a Quest 2, the PC version uses the Windows BONELAB data directory.

SDK mods versus code mods
Most mods distributed through the ordinary mod.io workflow are SDK content. BONELAB’s Marrow SDK supports content such as avatars, basic levels, and spawnables, although the SDK and its supported features have changed over time.
Code mods are different. A listing that requires a code-mod framework, loader, library, DLL, or other dependency cannot be installed merely by copying an ordinary SDK mod folder into Mods. Such mods may require a separate loader and can break after a BONELAB patch.

Treat code-mod instructions as unofficial, version-sensitive guidance. They are generally a PCVR-focused subject and should not be assumed to work on standalone Quest 2 simply because an associated SDK mod has an Android download. Stress Level Zero’s official mod.io information does not support every category of community modification.
BONELAB Patch 6, released on August 27, 2024, added circuitry and fixtures to the Marrow SDK and continued changes affecting content creation and behavior. Some current listings identify compatibility with version 1.2 or Patch 6. Before installing, check the mod page for:

Troubleshooting BONELAB mods
The mod does not appear
- Confirm that the ZIP was extracted.
- Confirm that you copied the mod folder itself, not the ZIP archive.
- Check for an unnecessary nested folder.
- Verify that you used Android for standalone Quest and Windows for PCVR.
- Restart BONELAB after copying the files.
- Check the mod’s version and SDK compatibility.
- Read its dependencies, release notes, and user comments.
The in-game download fails
- Reauthenticate the mod.io account through BONELAB’s Mods menu.
- Confirm that the browser and BONELAB are linked to the same account.
- Only if needed, remove and recreate the account link. Linking information is stored locally on the device, so repeatedly relinking is not the first step for every download problem.
- Try one small mod before downloading a large collection. This helps distinguish an account or network problem from a problematic collection or oversized download.
BONELAB crashes after installing a mod
Remove the most recently installed mod and relaunch BONELAB. If the crash began after installing a DLL, loader, framework, or other code-mod component, treat it as a code-mod compatibility problem rather than an ordinary SDK-mod problem. Check the framework’s current instructions before reinstalling or updating it.
For a serious problem, temporarily move the newest mod folders out of the Mods directory, launch the game, and restore them one at a time to identify the conflict. Back up existing mod folders and saves before experimenting with large collections or unsupported modifications.

The Mods folder is missing
Launch BONELAB once, close it, and check the expected user-data location again. On Quest, unlock the headset and approve the file-access prompt before browsing its internal storage. If the folder still does not exist, create a folder named Mods inside the BONELAB user-data directory.
Safer ways to choose BONELAB mods
- Prefer the official BONELAB mod.io page or a creator’s clearly identified release page.
- Avoid random file-hosting links and unexplained repacks.
- Check the platform label before downloading.
- Read dependencies and release notes.
- Install a few mods at a time so a problem is easier to isolate.
- Back up saves and existing mod folders before installing large collections.
- Be especially cautious with DLLs, loaders, and code-mod frameworks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install PC BONELAB mods on a standalone Quest 2?
No. Standalone Quest 2 uses the Android version of the mod. PCVR through SteamVR or Quest Link uses the Windows version on the PC. A Windows package is not the correct build for BONELAB running natively on the headset.
Recommended Free Tools
Do I need a computer to install BONELAB mods?
Not usually. BONELAB’s in-game mod.io browser can download subscribed mods directly to the game. A computer and USB data cable are needed for the conventional manual Quest file-copy method.
Why is my BONELAB mod not showing up?
Check that the archive was extracted, the correct Android or Windows build was selected, and the actual mod folder—not a ZIP file or an extra nested folder—was copied into the correct Mods directory. Then restart BONELAB and check the mod’s version and dependencies.
Can I use code mods on Quest 2?
Do not assume so. Code mods require separate loaders or frameworks, are unofficial and version-sensitive, and are generally a PCVR-focused installation subject. An Android SDK download does not make a code mod compatible with standalone Quest 2.
The Bottom Line
For most players: link BONELAB to mod.io and download subscribed content from the in-game Mods menu. If you need to install manually, use an extracted Android mod folder at Android/data/com.StressLevelZero.BONELAB/files/Mods for standalone Quest 2, or an extracted Windows mod folder at %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowStress Level ZeroBONELABMods for PCVR. Keep code mods separate from the ordinary SDK workflow and verify their current compatibility before installing.
