You can download and play Crusader Kings III on Ubuntu through Steam: its official store listing supports SteamOS + Linux and specifies Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Install Steam, acquire the game from its Steam page, then install it from your Library. Check the Linux system requirements below before downloading.

Install Steam on Ubuntu
Valve documents installing its Linux client on a 64-bit Ubuntu or Ubuntu LTS system using the Steam .deb package. The initial Steam installation requires internet access.

- Open Valve’s Steam for Linux README and download the current
steam_latest.debpackage. - Open the downloaded package with Ubuntu Software Center and follow its prompts to install Steam. Valve also documents installing the package with gdebi.
- Launch Steam and complete its setup. If you use an older Ubuntu release, check Valve’s current README for the Steam client’s graphics-driver and glibc requirements.
Download and install Crusader Kings III
- Open the Crusader Kings III Steam page.
- Use the available Steam option to purchase or otherwise acquire the game. Price and availability vary by Steam region and may change.
- In the Steam client, open your Library, select Crusader Kings III, and choose the install option. Select an installation location with at least 20 GB available, as specified in the listing.
Do you need Proton to play on Ubuntu?
Usually, do not force Proton for this game. Steam lists Crusader Kings III as supporting SteamOS + Linux, so start with the native Linux version offered by Steam. Proton is a compatibility tool for running Windows games on Linux; Ubuntu’s Steam guidance notes that native games generally work best without it.
