How to Download and Install the Razer DeathAdder Driver on Windows 10

Most DeathAdder mice use Windows' built-in driver for basic pointing. This guide shows how to identify your model, install official Synapse 4, update firmware safely and troubleshoot detection failures.

Most Razer DeathAdder mice do not need a separate downloadable Windows driver for basic movement and clicking. Windows 10 normally supplies a standard mouse/HID driver automatically. Download Razer Synapse 4 when you need DPI stages, button remapping, macros, profiles, or supported lighting controls. Firmware updates are separate, model-specific utilities.

The safest process, current as of August 18, 2026, is to identify the exact DeathAdder model, verify that Windows 10 is 64-bit, install Synapse 4 from Razer, then use the model’s own support page for firmware or pairing tools.

What “DeathAdder driver” means

There are three different software layers that are often confused:

  • Windows mouse/HID driver: Handles ordinary cursor movement, left-clicking, right-clicking and scrolling. It is normally installed automatically when you connect the mouse.
  • Razer Synapse: Razer’s configuration application for supported models. It adds DPI settings, button assignments, macros, profiles, polling options and lighting controls.
  • Firmware updater: A model-specific utility that changes software stored inside the mouse. It is not a replacement for the Windows driver or Synapse.

Razer’s DeathAdder V2 support page describes the mouse as usable as a standard USB mouse while Synapse provides advanced features.

Before downloading anything

Identify the exact model

Look at the label under the mouse, the original box, Windows’ device listing, or Razer’s product selector. Record the model number, which commonly starts with RZ01-. Examples include DeathAdder Elite (RZ01-02010), DeathAdder V2 (RZ01-03210), and DeathAdder V4 Pro (RZ01-0533).

Model identification is essential: firmware files and supported Synapse versions are not interchangeable. Use the current supported-device list and your model’s Razer Support page rather than a universal “DeathAdder driver” download.

Check Windows 10 architecture

  1. Open Settings → System → About.
  2. Find System type.
  3. Confirm it says 64-bit operating system.

Razer lists Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 as the operating-system requirements for Synapse 4. A 32-bit Windows 10 installation is not the supported Synapse 4 path; it can still use Windows’ basic mouse driver.

Prepare the connection

  • Install pending Windows updates.
  • Use an administrator account or approve the User Account Control prompt.
  • Connect the mouse directly to a USB port, not a hub, dock or passive adapter.
  • Keep a laptop’s built-in keyboard and touchpad available during installation.
  • Close other Razer applications before installing Synapse or firmware.

Download Razer Synapse 4

Use Razer’s official download page: https://www.razer.com/synapse-4. Avoid search-result advertisements and third-party “driver updater” sites; they can bundle unwanted software or provide the wrong model’s files.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The installer may need internet access, administrator approval, acceptance of the Razer Software License Agreement and a Razer ID for sign-in or online features. Synapse 4 is free; no paid subscription is identified in Razer’s current support material.

Install Synapse 4 step by step

  1. Run the downloaded Synapse installer.
  2. Select Yes when Windows displays User Account Control.
  3. Accept the Razer Software License Agreement.
  4. Select Install.
  5. Choose whether to include optional Razer Chroma components.
  6. Wait for setup to finish and restart Windows when prompted.
  7. Launch Synapse 4 and sign in with a Razer ID if the features you want require it.

Razer says installing its new applications removes Synapse 3. If you still depend on Synapse 3 profiles, export or migrate them before proceeding where possible. Razer ended Synapse 3 updates and cloud-service support on February 3, 2026; see its Synapse 3 support notice.

Confirm detection

On the Synapse dashboard or device list, select the DeathAdder and open its device page. Change a DPI stage, button assignment, polling setting, profile or lighting option supported by your model, then save or apply it.

If the pointer and buttons work in Windows but the mouse is missing from Synapse, the standard Windows HID layer is functioning; the problem is usually Synapse detection, compatibility or software, not a missing basic mouse driver.

Download a DeathAdder firmware updater

Firmware must match the exact RZ01 model. Open that model’s Razer Support page and download an updater only when Razer lists one. For example, the DeathAdder V2 (RZ01-03210) page currently lists firmware v1.04.01_r1, dated December 22, 2023. That file is not for a V3, V4 Pro, Elite or another revision.

Safe firmware-update sequence

  1. Connect a laptop or PC to wall power where applicable.
  2. Save work and close other applications, especially Razer software.
  3. Download the updater from the exact model page.
  4. Run it and approve User Account Control.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Connect the mouse when the updater requests it.
  7. Select Update.
  8. Do not unplug, power off or interrupt the mouse.
  9. Select Close after completion.

For comparison, the DeathAdder V4 Pro support page lists firmware v1.20.00 dated July 10, 2025 and a separate mouse-pairing utility. Wireless models should first be tested over USB, charged fully, connected with their receiver directly, and paired only with the utility listed for that model.

Update or reinstall the Windows mouse driver

Use Windows’ own tools when the mouse itself is malfunctioning. This does not provide Synapse features.

  1. Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices; also check Human Interface Devices.
  3. Right-click the relevant mouse or HID entry and choose Update driver.
  4. Select Search automatically for drivers, then restart if Windows requests it.

If that fails, right-click the entry, choose Uninstall device, restart the PC and reconnect the mouse so Windows can reinstall its standard driver. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance is available at Mouse and keyboard problems in Windows.

Fix “Razer DeathAdder not detected”

Work through these checks from least invasive to most invasive:

  1. Verify that your exact model appears in Razer’s supported-device list.
  2. Disconnect hubs and docks; try another direct USB port.
  3. Restart Windows, exit Synapse completely, and relaunch it.
  4. Test the mouse on another computer. If it fails there too, suspect the cable, connector, sensor or other hardware.
  5. Check the Synapse executable’s properties and disable Windows compatibility mode if it is enabled.
  6. Temporarily investigate security software that may block Razer services, using your organization’s security policy.
  7. Update Riot Vanguard if installed. Razer identifies outdated Vanguard version 1.7.0.27 as a possible cause of blocked Razer drivers.
  8. Perform the clean reinstall below.

Razer lists unsupported hardware, software or hardware faults, compatibility mode and outdated Riot Vanguard among possible detection causes. A firmware update is not guaranteed to fix any of them.

Clean-reinstall Synapse

  1. Back up Synapse profiles and settings.
  2. Exit every Razer application.
  3. Open Settings → Apps → Apps & features and search for Razer.
  4. Uninstall Synapse and related Razer software.
  5. Disconnect non-essential Razer devices and restart Windows.
  6. If corrupted system files are suspected, open an elevated Command Prompt and run sfc /scannow.
  7. Install pending Windows updates and restart again.
  8. Download Synapse 4 from Razer’s official page.
  9. Reconnect the DeathAdder directly to the PC and restore or migrate profiles.

Razer’s full clean-install guidance is at its Synapse reinstall article.

Choosing the right path

What you need Correct path Important limitation
Movement, clicking and scrolling Windows standard mouse/HID driver No Razer-specific remapping, profiles or lighting
DPI, macros, buttons, profiles or supported RGB Synapse 4, if your model is supported Adds background services and may require sign-in or internet access
Mouse firmware or wireless pairing Exact model’s Razer Support utility Never substitute another DeathAdder model’s updater
Older or unsupported model Windows standard driver and model-specific support instructions Do not assume Synapse 4 compatibility

Older DeathAdder models and Synapse 3

Older generations may have been designed for Synapse 2 or Synapse 3, and not every DeathAdder is guaranteed to work with Synapse 4. Check the exact model in Razer’s compatibility list and support pages. Razer’s current documentation says Synapse 3 updates and cloud services ended on February 3, 2026, so it should not be treated as the normal new-install recommendation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a driver if my DeathAdder already moves and clicks?

No. Windows’ standard mouse/HID driver is normally enough for basic operation. Install Synapse only for supported Razer controls.

Can Synapse 4 run on 32-bit Windows 10?

Razer lists Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11. A 32-bit Windows 10 installation is not the supported Synapse 4 environment.

Can Synapse 3 and Synapse 4 be installed together?

Razer states that installing the newer applications uninstalls Synapse 3. Back up or migrate profiles before switching.

Is firmware the same thing as a driver?

No. Firmware is model-specific software stored in the mouse; a Windows driver handles communication with the operating system; Synapse configures supported features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does Device Manager see the mouse but Synapse does not?

That usually means Windows’ basic HID layer works while Synapse has a compatibility, service, security or connection problem. Try the detection ladder and clean reinstall.

Should I use a third-party driver updater?

No. It is unnecessary for ordinary mouse operation and can install incorrect or bundled software. Use Windows Update, Razer Synapse and the exact Razer support page.

Can I use a DeathAdder V2 firmware updater on a V3 or V4?

No. Firmware utilities are tied to their exact model and RZ01 number.

What if the mouse fails on another computer too?

After trying a known-good direct USB connection, treat repeated failure as a possible cable, connector, sensor or other hardware fault and contact Razer Support or consider replacement.
