Download the official Xbox PC app from Xbox’s PC app page or install it through Microsoft Store. Your PC must run Windows 10 or 11, version 22H2 or later. The app download is separate from Game Pass, and the safest choice is to avoid third-party installer sites.
Check whether your Windows 10 PC is compatible
Press Windows key + R, type winver, and press Enter. Check that your Windows version is 22H2 or later. The official Xbox PC app page lists these minimum app requirements:

These are requirements for the app, not for its games. Each game has its own storage, processor, memory, graphics, and operating-system requirements; check the game’s listing before installing. Xbox PC app requirements
If your PC is in Windows S mode, Xbox says you may need to leave S mode to play games through the app. Do not exit it casually: the change may be one-way on many Windows installations. Check the current Windows guidance and any school or work-device restrictions first.

Download the app from Xbox’s official page
- Open the official Xbox PC app page.
- Select Download the app.
- Follow the Microsoft Store or installer prompt shown. The handoff and button labels can change, so use the current instructions on the official page rather than looking for a particular installer filename.
- When prompted, sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Open Xbox from the Start menu and sign in with the account that owns your games or subscription.
Install it through Microsoft Store
- Open Start and launch Microsoft Store.
- Search for Xbox, then check that the publisher is Microsoft or Xbox.
- Select the official app and choose Get or Install.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account if asked, then open the app from the Store or Start menu.
Microsoft’s Store instructions use Get to download an app and may ask you to sign in. Labels can differ between Store versions. Microsoft: Get apps from Microsoft Store
Sign in and install a PC game
The Xbox app can help you browse and download PC games, launch installed titles, use social features such as voice and text chat, and view a library that may include Xbox, Game Pass, installed PC games, and games from other PC storefronts. Xbox also describes cloud gaming and remote play features, but their availability depends on the game, account, subscription, region, device, and setup. Seeing another storefront’s game in a combined library does not mean Xbox installs or manages it.

- Sign in using the Microsoft account associated with the game or subscription you intend to use.
- Open the library or Game Pass area and select a PC-compatible game.
- Review the game’s system requirements and storage needs before downloading.
- Select the install action and choose a location if the app offers one.
- Wait for the download and installation to finish, then launch from the app or Start menu.
If a game is visible but cannot be installed, confirm that it has a PC version, that your account has access to it, and that the relevant subscription includes PC access if you are using Game Pass. Check available storage and the game’s own requirements as well.
What is free, and what requires a subscription?
The app itself is available to download without a separate app purchase indicated on Xbox’s page. That does not make every game free. You need to own a purchased game or otherwise have access to it; Game Pass is sold separately. Cloud gaming requires supported access, games, region, and a suitable internet connection. Xbox lists these distinctions on its PC app page. No current subscription price is included here.

Fix Xbox app download or installation problems
Try these steps in order. They are a practical escalation path based on Microsoft’s Store troubleshooting guidance, not a guaranteed fix for every error. Microsoft: Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store
- Restart the PC. A restart can complete a pending Windows update; Microsoft lists an unfinished restart as a possible reason Store apps fail to install. Microsoft: App missing or won’t install
- Check Windows Update. On Windows 10, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates, then install available updates and restart if asked.
- Update Microsoft Store. On Windows 10, try Start > Microsoft Store > See more (…) > Downloads and updates > Get updates. The menu may differ on your build.
- Reset the Store cache. Press Windows key + R, enter
wsreset.exe, and select OK. Wait for the blank command window to close and Microsoft Store to reopen, then try again. Microsoft’s wsreset.exe instructions - Repair, then reset the Xbox app. Open Windows’ installed-app settings, find Xbox, and choose Repair first. If that does not help, try Reset. The menu path varies by Windows build.
- Reinstall the app. Uninstall Xbox from Windows’ installed-app settings, restart, and reinstall through the official Xbox page or Microsoft Store.
- Check account and device restrictions. Make sure you are signed in to the right Microsoft account and check region, family settings, available storage, and whether a school or employer manages the PC. If Microsoft Store is missing
Search Start for Microsoft Store and check whether you are using a local account. Microsoft says Store access may be unavailable with a local account or disabled by an organization on a managed PC. On a work or school device, contact its administrator rather than trying to bypass its policy. Microsoft: Can’t find Microsoft Store app

If the app or a game is unavailable in your region
Store availability can depend on country or region. Do not change your region merely to bypass availability or pricing restrictions; Microsoft notes that region settings can affect apps, games, and Game Pass. Microsoft: Change your country or region in Microsoft Store
