Before you download BlueStacks 5
For the current Windows release, BlueStacks lists Windows 10 version 1903 or later and Windows 11 as the relevant supported platforms. It also requires an Intel or AMD processor, at least 4 GB of RAM, 5 GB of free disk space, administrator access, and current graphics drivers. If Hyper-V is enabled, use the Hyper-V-compatible configuration selected by the official download process.

BlueStacks also gives more comfortable recommendations: Windows 10 or later, a multi-core Intel or AMD processor, at least 8 GB of RAM, an SSD or hybrid drive, broadband internet, enabled hardware virtualization, and updated graphics drivers. These recommendations can improve loading and responsiveness, but they do not guarantee a particular frame rate or game performance.

Windows 7 and Windows 8 should not be treated as fully supported for the newest BlueStacks release. BlueStacks says users on those systems may be limited to version 5.21.300 or earlier. A 32-bit Windows installation or hardware without available hardware-assisted virtualization can also create version and performance limitations.
Download BlueStacks 5 from the official website
- Open the official BlueStacks website. Avoid unofficial mirrors and repackaged installers.
- Select Download BlueStacks 5. The Windows installer should begin downloading.
- When the download finishes, open the installer file from your browser’s Downloads folder or Windows File Explorer.
- Review the installer and select Agree and Install.
- Wait while the installer downloads and installs the required files. Do not shut down the PC during this process.
- BlueStacks 5 should launch automatically after installation completes.
The installer displays the BlueStacks version being installed. BlueStacks releases change over time, so check the official release notes if you need to confirm the exact build. The research for this guide identified BlueStacks 5.22.250 as the latest 5.22 build, released July 17, 2026; that is a time-specific reference, not a permanent promise that it remains the newest version.
Choose a custom installation location
If you need BlueStacks on another drive, follow BlueStacks’ official custom-location instructions. Do not manually drag the installed BlueStacks folders to a different drive after setup, and do not alter the installation directory by downloading a modified installer. Moving emulator files manually can leave services, shortcuts, or instance data pointing to the old location.
Make sure the destination drive has more than the bare 5 GB minimum if you plan to install games. Android apps, updates, virtual-device data, and game files can use substantially more space over time.
Complete the first BlueStacks setup
When BlueStacks opens, you can install Android apps in three supported ways: the BlueStacks Store, Google Play Store, or a local APK/XAPK file. Google Play is generally the simplest choice for apps and games available there.

Install an app from Google Play Store
- Open System apps from the BlueStacks home screen.
- Select Play Store.
- Sign in to your Google account when prompted.
- Search for the app or game.
- Open the correct listing and select Install.
- Return to the BlueStacks home screen. The installed app should appear there.
Use the same care you would use on an Android phone: check the developer name, reviews, permissions, and the exact app listing before installing.
Install an app from the BlueStacks Store
- Open BlueStacks 5.
- Select the BlueStacks Store icon.
- Search for the desired app or game.
- Open its listing and select Install.
Local games normally appear on the BlueStacks 5 home screen after installation. Cloud games may open in a browser instead of running as a locally installed Android app.
Install an APK or XAPK file
Use this method only when you have a legitimate reason to install a local package and you trust its source. BlueStacks’ support for APK and XAPK files does not make every file safe.
- Open BlueStacks.
- Select the Install APK button on the side toolbar.
- Browse to the APK or XAPK file in Windows File Explorer.
- Select the file and choose Open.
You can also drag an APK or XAPK file from its Windows folder onto the BlueStacks home screen. If an app is available through Google Play or the BlueStacks Store, try that route first rather than downloading an unknown package.
Enable hardware virtualization for better compatibility
Hardware-assisted virtualization allows BlueStacks to run Android in a virtual environment. BlueStacks says that enabling it can improve performance, allow the player to use more than one CPU core, and reduce lag or stutter. The actual improvement depends on the processor, Windows configuration, emulator instance, and app workload.
Virtualization is not the same thing as Hyper-V. Virtualization is a processor capability exposed through UEFI/BIOS firmware. Hyper-V is a Windows virtualization feature. A PC can have hardware virtualization enabled while Hyper-V is disabled, or have virtualization enabled and Hyper-V turned on.

Check virtualization in Windows
Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, choose CPU, and look for the Virtualization status. If it says Enabled, the firmware setting is already active. If it says Disabled, enable it in UEFI/BIOS.
Enable virtualization on Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Go to Windows Update > Advanced options > Recovery.
- Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
- After the restart, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings.
- Select Restart to enter the firmware interface.
- Find the virtualization setting, enable it, save the change, and exit.
Intel systems commonly label the setting Intel Virtualization Technology. AMD systems commonly use SVM Mode. The menu location and exact label vary by motherboard, computer manufacturer, firmware version, and processor. If you cannot find the option, consult the PC or motherboard manufacturer’s documentation rather than changing unrelated firmware settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHyper-V and the BlueStacks 5 installer
BlueStacks states that version 5.20 and later can run with Hyper-V enabled or disabled and recommends using the latest BlueStacks 5 release. When Hyper-V is enabled, downloading from the official website automatically selects the Hyper-V-compatible version.
If you have Hyper-V enabled for another Windows feature, do not assume it must be disabled just to install BlueStacks. First install or update to the current BlueStacks 5 build and allow the official installer to select the compatible configuration. If BlueStacks reports a virtualization or compatibility problem, identify whether the issue is:
- unsupported or unavailable hardware virtualization;
- virtualization disabled in UEFI/BIOS;
- a Windows Hyper-V configuration problem;
- out-of-date graphics drivers;
- insufficient RAM or storage; or
- an older Windows edition or 32-bit installation.
These are different problems and require different fixes. Disabling Hyper-V is not a universal solution, particularly when another Windows workload depends on it.
If BlueStacks will not install or runs poorly
- Check storage and memory. Confirm that the PC has at least 5 GB of free space and 4 GB of RAM. For a more usable setup, aim for 8 GB or more RAM and additional free storage for apps and instances.
- Update graphics drivers. Install current drivers through Windows Update or directly from the relevant Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA support channel. Restart Windows after a driver update if prompted.
- Check virtualization. Use Task Manager to see whether virtualization is enabled. If it is disabled, enable Intel Virtualization Technology or AMD SVM Mode in UEFI/BIOS.
- Check Hyper-V compatibility. Determine whether Hyper-V is enabled and use the current Hyper-V-compatible BlueStacks build where appropriate.
- Confirm the Windows version. Windows 7 and Windows 8 may be restricted to BlueStacks 5.21.300 or earlier. A 32-bit Windows installation can also impose limitations. Upgrading to a supported 64-bit Windows installation is the more durable solution when the PC supports it.
- Try an official app source. If an APK/XAPK fails, install the same app through Google Play Store or the BlueStacks Store if it is available there.
- Use official support material for version-specific failures. Release notes and BlueStacks support instructions are more reliable than generic “optimizer” claims for a particular build.
Older PCs and systems without virtualization
If hardware-assisted virtualization is unavailable, BlueStacks documents a fallback using a Nougat 32-bit instance, but warns that performance problems may occur. This is a compatibility fallback, not the preferred current setup.

BlueStacks’ documented fallback procedure requires uninstalling BlueStacks 5, BlueStacks X, and BlueStacks Services with the official cleaner tool before installing the specified older build. Do not casually mix an older fallback installation with leftover services from a newer installation. Follow the exact BlueStacks instructions for the build you are installing and back up any important emulator data first.
For Windows 7 or Windows 8, expect update incompatibility and version limitations. For a long-term gaming setup, a supported 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation with current drivers and enabled virtualization is preferable where the hardware allows it.

BlueStacks is useful for recording Android gameplay on a PC, but continuous distribution is a separate task from installation. Creators who record gameplay and want to keep a YouTube stream running without leaving their computer on may investigate 24/7 cloud streaming services such as StreamNeo. This is not needed to install BlueStacks or play games, and availability or partner terms should be checked separately before relying on any service.
Stream BlueStacks Gameplay on YouTube Without Leaving Your PC On
StreamNeo lets creators turn an owned or licensed prerecorded Android-gameplay video into an always-on YouTube Live stream. Upload the video and paste a YouTube stream key to start, while the cloud handles the broadcast so the PC does not need to remain on.
For a reliable 24/7 broadcast, StreamNeo checks stream health every 30 seconds and automatically restarts a dropped stream. That is useful when a recorded BlueStacks session should continue airing after the recording computer is shut down.
Test the workflow with StreamNeo’s free 24-hour 720p/30fps trial; no card is required at signup. If the trial meets your channel’s needs, proceed after checking the current service details.
