If neither player owns the game, the two pass users can play the first two levels for free.
What the Friend’s Pass lets you play
EA describes Friend’s Pass as a way for a player who owns Split Fiction to invite a partner to play for free. With one full-game owner, the pass user can join for the entire adventure. If both players have only downloaded Friend’s Pass, they can play the first two levels; EA says progress carries over if one player later gets the full game. EA Help explains the pass and its two-level trial, and EA’s Friend’s Pass page describes the invite option.
Where to download Friend’s Pass
Get the free pass from the digital store for the platform you use. EA Help points players to their platform’s webstore, while EA’s PC Friend’s Pass page identifies the Epic Games Store. The full-game owner can launch the full game instead of downloading the pass. Check EA’s Friend’s Pass page and the current store listing for your device before downloading: EA’s support and pass pages do not show identical platform lists.
How to set up and invite your friend
- Download the game or pass. Each player downloads Friend’s Pass from the relevant platform store. The player who owns the full game can start that version instead.
- Sign in to EA. Both players link their platform account to an EA Account and sign in. EA requires an EA Account to invite a friend.
- Add your partner in-game. Open the EA Friends List in the game and add the other player if they are not already listed. For cross-play, choose the EA Friends List invitation option.
- Have the recipient open the game. For a cross-play invite, EA says the recipient must be signed in to an EA Account with Split Fiction running.
- Check cross-play settings if needed. If the EA Friends List invitation option is missing, check that cross-play is enabled in the game’s Options menu on PlayStation or in Xbox privacy settings. EA also advises enabling cross-play game invites in the game’s Privacy Settings. Console privacy settings may block online cross-play, particularly on child accounts.

Cross-play and online requirements
EA Help describes cross-play on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. EA’s PC Friend’s Pass page also names Nintendo Switch 2, and EA’s main product page links to Windows, Xbox, Steam, PlayStation, Epic Games and Nintendo Switch 2 storefronts. Because those official platform lists differ and can change, confirm that the game and pass are currently listed for your device in its store.
