DOOM: The Dark Ages is available for Windows through Steam, the Xbox app for Windows PC, and Battle.net. It is included with PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate, or you can buy a Standard or Premium Edition. Before downloading, check the most important requirement: the PC version requires a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU.
Choose the right Windows download method
| Route | What you need | Best for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam | Steam purchase or another eligible Steam entitlement | Players who want Steam Cloud, achievements, and a conventional Steam library | Steam ownership is separate from Xbox app/Game Pass access |
| Xbox app for Windows | Purchase, PC Game Pass, or Game Pass Ultimate | Subscribers and Microsoft/Xbox users | Subscription access is not permanent ownership |
| Battle.net | Battle.net purchase or linked entitlement | Existing Battle.net users | Account-linking and launcher requirements may apply |
| GeForce NOW | Supported plan, region, connection, and legitimate game access where required | Players whose PCs cannot run the game locally | This streams the game; it does not install the full game on your PC |
Bethesda lists the Windows PC version for the Xbox app, Steam, and Battle.net, and also lists GeForce NOW availability. Bethesda gives May 15, 2025 as the PC availability date, while Steam displays May 14, 2025, reflecting differing regional or storefront timing. See Bethesda’s official platform information.

Avoid torrents, cracked executables, “pre-activated” downloads, unofficial launchers, and suspicious key or mirror sites. They can contain malware, credential-stealing software, or modified game files. Never disable antivirus protection to install an unofficial copy.
Check your Windows PC requirements first
Bethesda’s requirements are unusually important because hardware ray tracing is required even at minimum settings. A non-ray-tracing GPU is not a supported substitute simply because it has enough VRAM or strong conventional rasterization performance.
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 64-bit |
| CPU | AMD Zen 2 or Intel 10th generation, 8 cores/16 threads at approximately 3.2 GHz or better; examples: Ryzen 7 3700X, Core i7-10700K | AMD Zen 3 or Intel 12th generation, 8 cores/16 threads at approximately 3.2 GHz or better; examples: Ryzen 7 5700X, Core i7-12700K |
| GPU | Hardware ray-tracing-capable NVIDIA or AMD GPU with at least 8 GB dedicated VRAM; examples: RTX 2060 Super, RX 6600 | Hardware ray-tracing-capable NVIDIA or AMD GPU with at least 10 GB dedicated VRAM; examples: RTX 3080, RX 6800 |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 32 GB RAM |
| Storage | 100 GB available space on an NVMe SSD | 100 GB available space on an NVMe SSD |
| Target configuration | 1080p, 60 FPS, Low settings | 1440p, 60 FPS, High settings |
These are target configurations, not a guarantee of identical performance on every system. The official requirement is 100 GB of available space; leave substantially more room if possible because updates, temporary patch files, Windows data, and shader caches can require additional space. A nearly full SSD is more likely to cause installation or update failures.

Download through Steam
- Install and open the official Steam client, then sign in.
- Open the official DOOM: The Dark Ages Steam page.
- Buy the Standard Edition or Premium Edition, or select the applicable ownership option.
- Open Library and select DOOM: The Dark Ages.
- Click Install.
- Choose an NVMe SSD with at least 100 GB available, preferably with additional free space for updates.
- Allow Steam to download and install the game.
- Launch it from your Steam Library.
Steam lists Steam Cloud and Steam achievements, and identifies third-party Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM. Steam also has its own per-game language setting and offline-mode behavior, so launch the game once while online before relying on offline play.
Download through the Xbox app for Windows
- Install or update the Xbox app for Windows through Microsoft.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the game or has the eligible Game Pass subscription.
- Search for DOOM: The Dark Ages.
- Select the game and choose Install.
- Select the installation drive and confirm.
- Wait for the base download and any subsequent updates.
- Launch the game from the Xbox app or the Windows Start menu.
PC Game Pass is the relevant subscription for local Windows installation. Game Pass Ultimate includes PC Game Pass benefits and may also provide cloud-play benefits where supported. The exact catalog, benefits, and availability can change, so check the live Xbox listing.
Use the same Microsoft account in the Xbox app and the Microsoft Store. If the game does not appear, confirm the subscription or purchase is attached to that account, update both apps, and restart Windows if an update is pending.
Download through Battle.net
- Install the official Battle.net desktop app.
- Sign in to the Battle.net account that owns the game or has the linked entitlement.
- Select DOOM: The Dark Ages in the launcher.
- Choose Install.
- Select the destination drive, preferably a supported NVMe SSD with ample free space.
- Allow Battle.net to download and update the game.
- Launch it from Battle.net.
Bethesda lists Battle.net as an official Windows platform. Blizzard also describes account and entitlement linking involving Battle.net and Xbox. Linking accounts does not, by itself, guarantee unrestricted cross-save or cross-progression; check the current support information for the feature you need.

Standard Edition, Premium Edition, or Premium Upgrade?
Standard Edition
The Standard Edition is the straightforward choice if you want the base single-player game. Steam’s U.S. listing displayed $69.99 on August 18, 2026. Prices, taxes, regional currencies, discounts, and promotions can change.
Premium Edition
The Premium Edition includes:
- The base game.
- DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations campaign DLC.
- Digital artbook and soundtrack.
- Divinity Skin Pack for the Slayer, dragon, and Atlan.
Steam’s U.S. listing displayed $99.99 on August 18, 2026. Choose it if you want the campaign expansion and digital extras, rather than only the base campaign.
Digital Premium Upgrade
The Digital Premium Upgrade is an add-on for someone who already owns or can access the base game. It is not the complete game. Steam’s U.S. listing displayed $34.99 on August 18, 2026. New players without a base-game entitlement should buy the Standard or Premium Edition instead.
Do not assume a PC Game Pass subscription includes Premium Edition content. Treat the base game and Premium add-ons separately unless the current store listing explicitly says otherwise.

- Solo Strategic Gameplay: Battle Elemental Giants through tactical card combos and chaining mechanics that reward clever decision-making and strategic planning across multiple challenging encounters
- Four Unique Boss Fights: Engage four distinct boss battles across three different Wraith ages, ensuring high replayability and fresh strategic challenges with each playthrough
- Award-Winning Design: Created by acclaimed designer Scott Almes with rich narrative by Bryan C.P. Steele, delivering polished mechanics and immersive storytelling for discerning solo gamers
- Epic Fantasy Theme: Experience a gripping narrative where you inherit your grandmother's duty to protect your village from catastrophic destruction by powerful Elemental Giants
- Complete Game Experience: Includes three Wraith boards, four Giant boards, multiple card decks, tokens, and story book providing hours of engaging solo entertainment in 30 to 45 minutes
Which option should you use?
- Already subscribe to PC Game Pass: Install through the Xbox app first. Buy a separate copy only if you want access outside the subscription.
- Want a long-term Steam library: Choose the Steam Standard Edition.
- Want Revelations and the digital extras: Choose Premium Edition, or the Premium Upgrade if you already have base-game access on the same storefront.
- Already use Battle.net: Use Battle.net if your entitlement is associated with that account and launcher.
- Your PC lacks a supported ray-tracing GPU: Consider GeForce NOW if the title, plan, region, connection, and account entitlement are supported.
GeForce NOW is a streaming alternative, not a way to bypass ownership or hardware requirements without trade-offs. Latency, image compression, queues, session limits, and network instability can affect the experience.
Does the Windows version require an internet connection?
Internet access is required to acquire the digital license, download the game, authenticate the launcher, and receive updates. The game is presented as a single-player title, but offline behavior can differ between Steam, Xbox, and Battle.net. Launch the game once while online before attempting to use a launcher’s offline mode, and do not assume that every first-launch or authentication requirement can be bypassed.
Fix common download and launch problems
The game cannot be found
- Confirm you are signed in to the account that owns the purchase or subscription.
- Check that you are searching in the correct storefront.
- Update the launcher and restart it.
- For Game Pass, verify the same Microsoft account is used in the Xbox app and Microsoft Store.
The download will not start
- Check the selected drive and confirm it has well over 100 GB free.
- Remove any launcher bandwidth limit or paused-download state.
- Confirm Windows has permission to access the installation drive.
- Check whether security software has quarantined launcher files.
- Restart the launcher and Windows, then check the storefront service status if the problem continues.
Installation fails near completion
- Restart the launcher.
- Restart Windows.
- Free additional SSD space for temporary patch files.
- Update Windows and the launcher.
- Use the launcher’s built-in verify, repair, or scan function.
- Review security-software logs for blocked or quarantined files.
- Try another supported NVMe location if available.
- Reinstall only after the other steps fail.
The game crashes on startup
- Install the latest GPU driver from NVIDIA or AMD and reboot afterward.
- Verify or repair the game files.
- Temporarily disable overlays from Discord, recording software, and performance monitors.
- Remove custom launch arguments.
- Confirm the GPU supports hardware ray tracing and meets the dedicated-VRAM requirement.
- Close unnecessary background applications.
- Check Bethesda’s current support notices and patch information.
- If the crash persists, collect the relevant logs and contact Bethesda or the launcher’s support channel.
Lowering graphics settings cannot add missing hardware ray-tracing support. If the GPU is unsupported, use a supported cloud-gaming option or upgrade the hardware rather than relying on unofficial configuration hacks.
Recommended Free Tools
Game Pass installation is stuck or missing
- Update the Xbox app and Microsoft Store.
- Confirm Gaming Services is installed and functioning.
- Check that the same Microsoft account is active in both apps.
- Confirm the selected drive has sufficient space.
- Restart Windows if an update is waiting.
- Use app repair or reset options only after confirming the account and installation location.
Avoid copying hard-coded PowerShell fixes from old guides. Gaming Services commands and Windows app behavior can change; use current Microsoft support instructions instead.
Language or region is incorrect
Storefront and system language settings can differ. Use the launcher’s supported-language controls. Steam provides per-game language settings; Xbox app behavior may also depend on Windows language and regional settings. Steam’s listing documents the game’s supported interface, audio, and subtitle languages.
