If by “Wii games” you mean community-made homebrew applications, you can download an app from its creator and arrange its files on an SD card for the Homebrew Channel to run. If you mean commercial Wii games, the Homebrew Channel is not a source or license for them: Nintendo identifies Nintendo-operated channels as the legitimate way to download its games, but its cited guidance does not confirm which Wii titles are currently available.
First, distinguish homebrew apps from commercial Wii games
Homebrew applications are community-created software. The Homebrew Channel is documented as a way to run those applications; it does not turn commercial Wii games into homebrew or grant permission to download their files. WiiBrew’s FAQ draws this distinction and describes downloading pirated games as illegal, though that community wiki’s general position is not individualized legal advice or a rule for every country. Nintendo’s Intellectual Property & Piracy FAQ says, “The only way to download legitimate games for Nintendo consoles is through Nintendo eShop or via the Nintendo website”. That page does not establish whether a particular Wii game is currently offered there, so check availability for the specific title through Nintendo’s own channels. How to prepare an SD card for homebrew apps
WiiBrew documents a simple folder layout: an apps directory at the SD card’s root, a separate folder for each application, and that app’s executable inside its folder. The Homebrew Channel can run applications in .elf or .dol format and can load them from an SD card, USB Gecko, or local network. WiiBrew homebrew apps setup · Homebrew Channel

- Tested and works well. Nice condition
- Obtain a homebrew application from a source authorized by its creator. Check that the download is the application itself, rather than a commercial game file.
- On the SD card, create a folder named
appsat the card’s root if one is not already present. - Create a subfolder inside
appsfor the application. - Place the application’s
.elfor.dolexecutable in that subfolder, following any additional instructions supplied by the app’s creator. - Insert the card and open the Homebrew Channel to find and launch the application.
Confirm SD-card compatibility, capacity, and formatting for your Wii model using current instructions. The cited setup documentation supports using an SD card for homebrew apps but does not verify a particular card model.

Nintendo’s Wii User Agreement says the console and network service are not designed for unauthorized software, services, or devices. It warns that such use may be illegal or breach the agreement, void warranty coverage, or affect access, performance, or playability. Nintendo Wii User Agreement

In the United States, Copyright Office guidance explains that Section 1201 generally prohibits circumventing technological protection measures, with limited exemptions established through periodic rulemaking. Current regulations contain narrow video-game provisions under specific conditions—for example, certain local-play restoration for lawfully acquired complete games after external servers shut down, and preservation by eligible libraries, archives, or museums. Those provisions are not blanket permission to obtain commercial Wii game files from unofficial download sites. Laws vary by country, and the cited U.S. rules do not resolve every individual situation. U.S. Copyright Office: Section 1201 · 37 CFR § 201.40
