The controller originally cost $79.99, but dependable new inventory at that price was not verified in the retailer pages reviewed on August 16–18, 2026. Best Buy and Walmart may show marketplace listings, while StockX provides a resale-price comparison—not an MSRP alternative.
Current retailer snapshot
These prices and availability signals are time-sensitive. A product page can remain live after inventory disappears, or it can show third-party stock rather than inventory owned by the retailer.
| Retailer | What was observed | Best for | Warning |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation Direct | No clearly active US 30th Anniversary controller listing was exposed in the storefront reviewed. | Authenticity and a possible MSRP restock | No dependable current stock signal |
| GameStop | Pre-owned listing at $143.99, marked down from $159.99, with delivery or pickup controls shown when reviewed. | Buyers willing to accept used condition | Inspect condition, packaging and return terms |
| Best Buy | Recent pages showed offers around $179.99 to more than $215, including marketplace-style offers. | Marketplace monitoring | Check “sold and shipped by” before paying |
| Walmart | Product page showed $219.95. | Buyers comfortable with Walmart Marketplace | The page does not establish that Walmart itself is the seller |
| StockX | Lowest ask was approximately $145 before applicable fees. | Resale-price comparison | Ask is not the final checkout total |
PlayStation Direct is the safest first check, but GameStop was the clearest concrete retailer option reviewed. Neither result means Sony has permanently discontinued the controller; it means dependable current first-party availability was not verified.
Make sure you are buying the right controller
The target product is the DualSense Wireless Controller – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition, model number 1000046929. It is the standard DualSense, with gray retro styling inspired by the original PlayStation.
#1 Best Overall
- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
It is not the DualSense Edge 30th Anniversary Limited Edition, the 30th Anniversary PS5 Digital Edition bundle, the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle, or a standard gray DualSense. Be especially cautious with listings that mention only “PlayStation 30th Anniversary” without saying “standard DualSense Wireless Controller.”
The controller is designed for PS5 and is listed as compatible with Mac/Windows, iOS and Android devices. Feature support can vary by device, connection method, operating system and game; compatibility does not guarantee that every PS5 feature works identically elsewhere. Best Buy’s product information identifies the model and supported platforms.
Original price and release date
Sony announced the standalone controller as part of its 30th Anniversary collection. Preorders through PlayStation Direct and participating retailers began on September 26, 2024, and the controller released on November 21, 2024. Its original US list price was $79.99. Sony’s announcement covers the collection and retailer timing, while contemporary launch coverage documents the price and release date.
That $79.99 figure is historical MSRP, not a current guaranteed market price. Paying more is now common in the observed listings, but the premium buys scarcity and condition—not a fundamentally different standard DualSense feature set.

Retailer-by-retailer advice
1. PlayStation Direct: check first
Use the official US storefront, sign in to your PlayStation Network account, and search the controller section for the exact product name. Confirm the seller, condition, shipping cost and returns before checkout.
A generic official-store link is preferable to an unverified deep link that may be dead or region-locked. Do not assume a search result labelled “PlayStation Direct” represents live inventory.
2. GameStop: the most practical used option
The reviewed GameStop listing showed a pre-owned controller for $143.99. ZIP code, store, condition and inventory can change the result, so verify those details before paying.
This can be a reasonable purchase for a player who wants the design and accepts used condition. It is less suitable for a sealed collector. Ask whether the box, USB cable and branded accessories are included, and check the return eligibility. GameStop also displayed a $25-per-year Pro plan, but membership was not necessary to buy the controller and should not be treated as part of the price comparison.

- Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
3. Best Buy: use the page to monitor, not to assume first-party stock
The Best Buy product page remains useful for identifying the model and monitoring offers. Recent pages showed marketplace prices from roughly $179.99 to above $215, with some offers unavailable or sold out.
Before ordering, locate the “sold and shipped by” information. A listing on BestBuy.com does not necessarily mean Best Buy owns or fulfills the inventory. Compare the seller’s returns, warranty language, delivery estimate and condition.
4. Walmart: treat the listing as marketplace stock
The reviewed Walmart page showed $219.95. That is a comparison point, not proof of Walmart-sold inventory. Confirm the marketplace seller, fulfillment method, condition, warranty and return policy at checkout.
5. StockX: compare the all-in resale cost
StockX showed a lowest ask of about $145 before applicable fees. An ask is not the same as a completed purchase price: buyer fees, shipping, taxes and any authentication or return limitations can materially change the total. Compare the final checkout amount with retailer offers rather than comparing headline numbers alone.

Amazon and Target
Amazon and Target participated in the original 2024 retail period, but the evidence reviewed here does not establish active first-party inventory on either site. They are reasonable monitoring links, not confirmed current recommendations. Be careful not to confuse a marketplace listing with stock sold by Amazon or Target.
What is a reasonable price?
Use these as practical editorial bands, not official Sony valuations:
- $79.99: original MSRP; excellent if a new unit appears through an official or clearly authorized retailer.
- $140–$160: a substantial premium, but near the lower end of the observed resale range. A reputable used unit may be defensible.
- $180–$220: expensive. New, sealed condition, seller reputation, returns and warranty should justify the premium.
- Above $250: collector pricing. It is difficult to justify for ordinary gameplay unless sealed condition or rarity is the main objective.
Prices may change before checkout and may exclude tax, shipping, marketplace fees and buyer-protection costs. Do not describe any listing as the “best price” without comparing equivalent final totals.

- “Custom,” “modded,” “replacement shell,” “replica” or “inspired by” wording.
- Only stock images and no photographs of the actual controller.
- No model number or a title saying merely “compatible with PS5.”
- A price far below the normal resale range.
- A seller with little history or no clear return policy.
- Unclear packaging, missing serial information or vague accessory descriptions.
For a collectible, original packaging, matching serial information, branded accessories and proof of purchase matter more than they do for an ordinary used controller. A marketplace or resale platform’s process can reduce risk, but it is not a guarantee that every listing is authentic.
If you buy pre-owned, test these functions
- Check both analog sticks for drift and dead zones.
- Test adaptive-trigger resistance and haptic feedback on a compatible PS5 game.
- Check battery life and USB-C charging.
- Pair over Bluetooth and test wired operation.
- Test the touchpad, mute button, speakers and every face and shoulder button.
- Inspect the gray finish for yellowing, discoloration, cracks or shell damage.
- Confirm that the box, cable and other original accessories are included if collecting matters.
Should you buy now or wait?
| Your priority | Best decision |
|---|---|
| Authenticity and lowest risk | Monitor PlayStation Direct and wait for a clearly first-party listing. |
| You want the design now | Consider a reputable used GameStop unit around the lower resale band after testing and checking returns. |
| You want a sealed collector item | Pay more only to a reputable seller with actual-item photos, original packaging and clear returns. |
| You mainly need a controller | Buy a regular DualSense instead of paying a scarcity premium. |
| You need pro customization | Consider DualSense Edge for its specific features, but do not treat it as a substitute for this standard anniversary model. |
Buy immediately if you find an authentic new controller near $79.99. Consider carefully a reputable used unit around $140–$160. Wait or walk away when the seller is unclear, the condition is ambiguous, returns are absent, or the price exceeds roughly $200 without sealed collector-grade justification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the PS5 30th Anniversary DualSense discontinued?
The reviewed evidence does not establish that Sony has permanently discontinued it. It does show that dependable current first-party availability was not verified, so treat it as a scarce resale-market item rather than assuming another restock will occur.
Is $145 a good price for the 30th Anniversary DualSense?
It is far above the original $79.99 MSRP but near the lower end of the observed resale range. Check the final total, seller reputation, condition, packaging and return terms before deciding.
Recommended Free Tools
How can I tell whether a listing is the standard controller?
Look for the exact name “DualSense Wireless Controller – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition” and model number 1000046929. Exclude DualSense Edge, console bundles, replacement shells and listings that only say “compatible with PS5.”
The Bottom Line
Best buying order: PlayStation Direct for a possible official restock, GameStop for practical pre-owned inventory, then carefully screened Best Buy, Walmart or StockX offers. The original $79.99 price is the benchmark, not a promise of current availability; above $200 is usually a collector decision rather than a sensible gameplay purchase.
