To enable AMD FSR 4, first check which setup route the game supports and whether your GPU and driver meet the requirement for the specific feature. In a game with native integration, switch on the option in its graphics or video menu. For a supported game that AMD Software can upgrade from an existing FSR implementation, close the game, enable AMD FSR Upscaling under Gaming > Graphics in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, then reopen the game and choose an FSR setting there.
AMD now calls FSR 4 FSR Upscaling as part of the wider FSR Redstone suite. Some games may still use the older “FSR 4” label in their menus. The two setup routes are not interchangeable: a driver toggle does not add FSR support to every game, and hardware support for upscaling does not guarantee support for every Redstone feature.

Check the game, feature, GPU, and driver first
Before changing settings, identify the game and the particular feature you want: ML-based upscaling, frame generation, or another part of the Redstone suite. AMD’s current supported-games list is the place to confirm whether the title supports native FSR Upscaling or is eligible for a driver-based upgrade. Game support and minimum driver versions can change, so check the current listing rather than relying on an older list or a game’s past patch notes.

Compatibility for the broader Redstone feature set is narrower: AMD lists RX 9000 Series for Redstone support with Adrenalin Edition 25.12.1 or later. For upscaling-only use on RX 7000 Series, AMD lists Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 or later. These are feature-specific minimums, not a promise that every Redstone feature works on every listed GPU. - Native game integration: The game provides its own supported FSR option in its settings. Follow the game’s supported setup route and its listed requirements.
- Driver-based upgrade: AMD Software upgrades an eligible existing FSR integration. The game must be on AMD’s supported list and have the required underlying FSR version.
- Upscaling: For driver-upgrade titles, AMD’s current list requires at least FSR 3.1.
- Driver-upgraded frame generation: AMD’s list requires FSR 3.1.4 for this route.
If your hardware already meets the relevant requirement, the setup is a software and game-settings task; a new graphics card is not a prerequisite for following the steps below. Consider hardware changes only if your existing system falls outside the requirement for the feature you want.
Choose the right enablement route
| Route | Where to enable it | What the game needs |
|---|---|---|
| Native FSR integration | The game’s graphics or video menu | A game build with native ML-based FSR support and compatible hardware and driver for the selected feature |
| AMD Software driver upgrade | AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, then the game’s graphics or video menu | A supported title with qualifying existing FSR integration; at least FSR 3.1 for driver-upgraded upscaling, or FSR 3.1.4 for driver-upgraded frame generation |
Do not assume the AMD Software switch is required for a game with native integration, or that the switch will work for every title with an FSR option. AMD documents both native game-menu setup and driver-based upgrades; use the route listed for that game.
Enable native FSR Upscaling in the game
- Check AMD’s current supported-games list for the title, the specific feature, and any stated GPU or driver requirements.
- Launch the game and open its Graphics, Video, or equivalent display-settings menu. Menu names and option labels vary by game.
- Find the upscaling option. It may be labeled FSR Upscaling or, in older game interfaces, FSR 4.
- Turn on the supported option and select the quality preset offered by the game. The preset is chosen in the game; the available names and controls depend on its implementation.
- Apply the change. If the game asks for a restart, restart it before judging whether the setting took effect.
If the setting is absent, do not assume that installing a newer driver alone will add native integration. Confirm that the game version and feature are supported, and check whether AMD lists the title under the driver-upgrade route instead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsEnable an AMD Software driver upgrade
Use this route only when AMD lists the game as eligible for a driver-based upgrade. The game must already include qualifying FSR integration; AMD’s current supported-games list sets the minimum at FSR 3.1 for upscaling and FSR 3.1.4 for driver-upgraded frame generation.
- Close the game completely. The driver-upgrade controls should be enabled before launching the title.
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Go to Gaming > Graphics.
- Enable AMD FSR Upscaling. If the supported title and your hardware support the feature and you want it, enable AMD FSR Frame Generation as well.
- Launch the game. Open its graphics or video settings and enable FSR 3.1 if it is not already active.
- Choose the available quality preset in the game’s own menu and apply the settings.
AMD recommends Radeon Anti-Lag 2 only for games that support it. Do not treat it as a required step for FSR Upscaling, and do not enable it on the assumption that every title supports it.
Why the option may be missing
The game uses a different setup route
A native implementation may expose its control only in the game, while an eligible driver-upgrade title may require the AMD Software switch first. Check the title’s entry in AMD’s current supported-games list and follow the route it specifies.

The game does not have the required FSR integration
The driver-based route builds on the game’s existing implementation; it is not a universal switch that adds FSR to any PC game. For driver-upgraded upscaling, the current list requires FSR 3.1 or later. For driver-upgraded ML-based frame generation, it requires FSR 3.1.4. A title with an older or different integration may not qualify for the feature you are trying to enable.
The GPU or driver does not meet that feature’s requirement
Check the requirements for the exact feature, not just whether your card supports some form of FSR. AMD’s listed RX 7000 and RX 9000 support for ML-based upscaling does not mean every broader Redstone feature is available on both series. Also compare your installed Adrenalin version with the current minimum for your GPU and requested feature.
The game was open when you changed the driver setting
For the driver-upgrade route, close the game before enabling the AMD Software toggle, then launch it again. Afterward, make sure the game’s own FSR option is enabled where required and select a preset there.
A per-game profile is not shown
AMD’s technical-preview notes recorded a global-graphics-settings workaround for Blades of Fire, Dragonkin, and Stellar Blade when a per-game profile was not displayed. That is preview-era guidance, not a guarantee that the same workaround applies to current releases. Check current AMD release notes before changing global settings for one of these titles.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to verify after setup
- Confirm that the game is on AMD’s current list and that you selected the right entry for native support or driver upgrade.
- For the driver-upgrade route, verify that the game was closed when you enabled the AMD Software toggle and that it has the qualifying FSR version.
- Check the game menu after relaunch: enabling the driver control alone may not select the in-game upscaling option or preset.
- For frame generation, separately confirm the game’s integration version and hardware support; upscaling compatibility does not establish frame-generation compatibility.
- If the relevant control still does not appear, compare the installed driver, game version, and feature requirements against AMD’s current listing rather than assuming that the feature has been removed or is universally available.
Names and older compatibility lists
FSR 4 is now named FSR Upscaling, one feature within AMD’s FSR Redstone suite. AMD says it changed the name to distinguish the different features that make up Redstone. Because game menus may retain the older FSR 4 wording, a label mismatch by itself does not mean the game is using a different setup route.
